X Men Days of Future Past Jennifer Lawrence Mystique closeup New X Men: Days of Future Past Photos Highlight Familiar Faces & Relationships

While Captain America: The Winter Soldier stole the Marvel spotlight yesterday with its first trailer grabbing attention away from Thor: The Dark World’s imminent theatrical release momentarily, it wasn’t to be outdone by Twentieth Century Fox’s big budget Marvel tentpole, X-Men: Days of Future Past. A brief teaser in the form a Instagram clip was released by Fox to announce the release of the first Days of Future Past trailer coming next Tuesday, October 29th. With Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy teaser trailers also expected before the year’s out – it’s high time for Marvel fans.

The 6-second X-Men: DOFP teaser features key shots from the past and future, highlighting some of the new superhero costumes the fan-favorite mutants wear, and today, new photos reveal even more. Empire and EW have each released an exclusive set of official stills from X-Men: Days of Future Past from next week’s issues of each respective magazine.

Highlighting the familiar characters we know from the original X-Men trilogy and X-Men: First Class along with new antagonist Bolivar Trask played by Peter Dinklage (Games of Thrones), there are two behind-the-scenes photos, one featuring Bryan Singer directing Patrick Stewart on set, another with Jennifer Lawrence in a cowgirl getup, the rest revealing interesting plot points of the film’s multiple-timeline story.

Based on the 1981 Chris Claremont and John Byrne Days of Future Past storyline in X-Men comics, the film draws from the main story elements, putting an interesting (read: more marketable) twist on how the film plays out. Franchise star Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine in the past and present, representing the character from a post-apocalyptic future who is sent by Professor X and Magneto back in time to prevent some unknown event from happening that led to a mutant vs. human war and the creation of massive, mutant-hunting Sentinel robots.

From the photos, we see that Ian McKellan’s older Magneto has no need for his iconic helmet that protects him from mutant telepaths since he’s once again allied with old friend Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) who finally gets a hover chair from the comics and animated cartoon. ’70s Magneto (Fassbender) however, still wants his. We also see Bolivar Trask (Dinklage) meeting with President Richard Nixon in the ’70s to discuss what we expect is the “mutant menace.” Also in the past, Jackman’s Wolverine sits, riddled with bullet holes, enjoying some alcohol and we wonder if his healing factor isn’t up to snuff after the events of The Wolverine. Why his ’70s self would not have the same healing factor we don’t quite know – if that’s the case. He does have graying hair in the future.

Other highlights include Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat (Ellen Page) sharing a tender moment in the future, raising the question of whether or not Iceman and Rogue (Anna Paquin) are no long an item. And of course, younger Magneto and Xavier again discuss life and strategy over a fitting game of chess.

Bryan Singer directs X-Men: Days of Future Past with newcomers Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Boo Boo Stewart, Fan Bingbing, Evan Peters, Adan Canto, Josh Helman, along with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Lucas Till, and Daniel Cudmore.

  1. I still question this movie but Dinklage is the man. So is Hugh Jackman but I hope they slap some adamantium on him. If I have to set through an entire movie with bone claws I’m gonna be pissed.

    • You know, Wolverine just isn’t the same without him! I know he lost and gained them through the comics blah, blah but please don’t make him start from scratch!

      • them*

  2. Why does it look like xavier is standing in that last pic with magneto and wolverine?

    • Also, i didnt know we might get a GotG teaser before the end of the year? if thats true thats awesome! that would be the earliest theyve released a trailer. The avengers I believe was like 6-7 months, IM3 was 7, Thor: TDW was 7, Captain America: TWS was 6 months.

      • there actualy is a leaked teaser online i saw it and it looks great

        • Well, yeah theres the leaked Comic Con trailer from when they were only like, a week into filming.

    • Probably a press photo

    • Hover high chair?

  3. im praying this isn’t a mess

    • Second that, it’s what I have thought all along, it sounds like there going to f**k it up but I really hope they don’t.

    • Pray hard……very very hard.

  4. Didn’t we get a ASM 2 teaser already?

  5. its really too bad bryan singer is such a terrible director. and i always pay money to see them because i love x-men.

    • “The Usual Suspects” and the first two X-Men films would tend to disagree with you…strongly.

      • Win

      • As well as Apt Pupil (one of the better Stephen King adaptions).

  6. This movie should be the best X-Men film so far, but it’s going to be hard to top X2. But the storyline for this movie is far and away my favorite storyline from the comics. I just wish they’d add Psylocke or X23, we need some more sexy and strong leading ladies.

  7. Will I be laughing in my mind when Peter Dinklage shows onscreen? I wonder.

No disrespect for the actor… but Im not used to see little people in movies on serious roles. Im not familiar with Game of Thrones.

    • WOW! you sir are an arse of the highest order!

I don’t like speaking on others behalves however I should imagine Peter Dinklage would take that as disrespectful.

  8. Anyone else notice that Logan seems to be holding a katana in the drinking picture?

    • I would love it if they turned it into the Muramasa Blade, however your screen name and my optimism may never be realised!

    • yea I’ve notice it too I think wolverine in that picture I believe takes place after the events of the japanese war in The Wolverine movie after they nuked the place and wolverine regenerates and that japanese soldiers gives him the sword for protecting him from that explosion

  9. I liked Magneto’s helmet from First Class more than the one from the trilogy that looked dull.

  10. Anyone else think the XMFC version of Mystique looks as bad as the XM1-3 version looked good? Don’t know if it’s different make-up/appliances, different body shape, what, but Romijn made Mystique look great while Lawrence just looks bleh.

    • I agree. Jennifer has less make-up and prospetics in her face, making mystique looks more boring.

And the blue is too intense, making her whole look even more different than in the Original trilogy.

I dont understand when directors keep chanching the look of the characters, especially the ones that were awesome in first place

      • probably because they would be accused of copying whats been done before, rather than putting there own stamp on it, although I know what your saying.

  11. Rebecca Romijn just looks hotter then Jennifer Lawrence nevermind the makeup

  12. so cyclops is making a cameo right??? i see what appears to be his pic in the film clipboard Jennifer’s holding could be wrong idk

    • I think that’s one of the old clips from one of the first X-Men movies. Halle Barry still has long hair and Iceman doesn’t have a beard.

  13. Nixon tells Trask he always liked him on “Fantasy Island”.
Pic of shirtless Wolverine shows he has “titz-zitz”, and needs to use medicated pads and acne medicine.

  14. No matter what happens in this movie, it will be worth a watch if you have any interest in it. In what manner you prefer to see it depends on how long you are willing to wait to view it. Fox wins, I will give them my money for this. A couple times probably. Usually if I dont like a movie in the theater, I download it to make sure(its okay to download it at that point as long as you save your movie ticket?).Then I rent it on redbox to see if it changed at all since the last time I viewed it. If I still dont like it after that? I just watch it on netflix because whatever, its not like im paying more for it.

  15. So, the pic of (young) Magneto and Xavier playing chess obviously rules out the continuity error of them still being friends at the beginning of X-Men 3. Take that, nay-sayers. Also, they got rid of the Origins error of Xavier still walking at the end, even though the film isn´t canon anymore.

  16. Looks like Iceman is sporting Wolverine’s sideburns. Wonder why that look.

  17. I personally don’t like the idea of tying all the older X-men characters with the ones from the first class movie… I mean continuity between them is terrible. In X-Men: the last stand Charles could walk and was bald when he went to young Jean’s house, then in first class he get’s shot and supposedly paralysed..

    • “In X-Men: the last stand Charles could walk and was bald when he went to young Jean’s house, then in first class he get’s shot and supposedly paralysed.”

Have you even looked at those pictures? It should be obvious that Xavier and Magneto are friends again, and Xavier can walk in one of the pictures.

  18. Mystique looks really REALLY bad. She actually looks like she’s wearing a synthetic body suit and face paint. Why did Bryan Singer change her makeup!

    • “She actually looks like she’s wearing a synthetic body suit and face paint.”

That´s because she does wear a body suit and face paint. It´s less dangerous than full body paint. The skin needs to breathe. Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence complained about getting sick of the paint, they had to throw up a lot of times because of it. So they made this bodysuit.

  19. I can’t wait for this movie, people seem to dwell on the only two bad X-Men movies, 3, and origins. The rest have been good. I have faith in the new cast because it’s really a sequel to first class featuring the old cast. Pat Stewart was on set for a very short time from what James Mac says.

  20. And has anybody noticed we have no Quicksilver pictures of him in action or sentinels in action???

    • Not only that but we didnt see Bishop, Blink or Warpath in these pictures wich i actually like. Don’t show too much please….that will make me see the movie even more…..I want to be surprised to see the new mutants in this film…

      • Its obvious they are saving all the new stuff for later release, but sadly thats the stuff I want to see the most, so these pics dont please me

  21. The hovering wheel chair looks awesome

  22. Great pics

  23. Will Gambit be in this movie? If so then I would love to see Rogue and Gambit get together
In this movie, I would rather see Nightclawer get with Kitty instead of Iceman getting with her.
What do you guys think? I would also love to see Wolfarine get with Storm in the new movie that would be interesting to see.

  24. No Cyclops. Bleh!

  25. No White Queen either makes no sense…
