[Read our trailer breakdown with 100 new photos here!]

For a summer blockbuster that’s been labeled the most expensive superhero film of all-time, it’s odd that we haven’t see a new trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past since October. And that trailer we did see was just the same footage we already saw at San Diego Comic-Con last summer.

We knew that because of the extensive special effects requirements and post-production work that it’d be a while before movieogers could see the returning X-Men take part in action sequences. Last week, a brief Instagram teaser promised more Days of Future Past content; it didn’t reveal anything new about the story from director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg nor anything beyond the major reveal of 25 character posters, so we’ve still been waiting to see a trailer where the X-Men of the past and future fight, and fight against Sentinels. Now that time has finally come.

From Sentinels old and new and a man with metal skin, to Sunspot’s fiery transformation to Iceman’s infamous ice slide, this one has all the key mutant superhero powers we know and love from the pages of the X-Men comics, with plenty of dark and brooding story and emotion to go with it. the second full-length Days of Future Past trailer washes away our fears about special effects, and hints that Singer may be delivering the best action of his career – now we wait to see if the award-winning cast has a worthy story to tell.

Twentieth Century Fox is banking hard on X-Men: Days of Future Past potentially relaunching the franchise and having it earn comparable box office results as its competition from Disney, Sony and Warner Bros.

  1. Ok…this trailer finally got me stoked about XM:DOFP. Up until now it was far down the list after CA:TWS, ASM2, and GotG. It’s moved up to number two. Having already seen CA:TWS, XM is gonna have its work cut out for it to supplant CA as my number 1 comic movie this year.

  2. still looks awful.

    • Agreed. Looks awful.

    • like this comment

    • You sir have no soul

  3. Looks like Magneto does something similar to the 2nd movie. Changes the sentinels to work for him.

  4. again with the autoplay videos?!!?

    • wrabb,

Honest question for you, not flamebait: If someone clicks on a post for a trailer, is their intention not to watch that trailer? I would think they would hit the “play” button anyway once they land on the page.

      • I think the problem Vic is when people come back to look at just the comments and the trailer just automatically plays for the 5th or 6th time. Or even going from one page of comments to the next it autoplays.

        • I am going to look into solutions for this. If I have to, I’ll disable autoplay, but I would prefer not to do that.

          • PLEASE disable auto-play – for ALL VIDEOS – it really is an annoying trend on many sites !

and sometimes even if you click on a story – it doesn’t always mean you want to watch the video – either immediately or right at all. stop trying to fix or improve what isn’t broken (or just generate ad views or whatever)

go check out Huffington Post and many other websites and you’ll see people respond in other comments everywhere that they HATE auto-play videos, they’re the bane of the today’s ever evolving internet.

            thanks !

        • If it happens more than once, what would it take for someone to learn from the past?

      • I would think problem lies in returning visits to participate in discussion/read comments Vic.

Having the trailer start automatically (not to mention the unpausable 30sec advertisement before it) can be a minor annoyance if you are listening to music from your computer… or trying to sneakily browse while in work and forgetting to turn the sound down like I’m doing at the moment :p

But like I said, only a minor annoyance and easily fixed by hitting pause

        • FYI, I just disabled autoplay on this particular video.

      • no flamebait taken Vic. Honestly, there are times that I come to read the article attached to a trailer or video. And I may not want to watch the new CA:TWS trailer because I’m trying to wait. I like to read comments too.

And the whole “my volume was way up and my office door wasn’t shut” thing happens. lol

        • wrabb,

Totally understand. I am looking into a solution/compromise. If I have to, I will disable autoplay, but I’d prefer not to. I do care a LOT about the visitor experience. Hard to balance that with site income so I can pay all my writers, hosting, etc.

          • I’ll second the “no autoplay” sentiment. I see it in line with ads with audio that automatically play on some sites.

As it happens, I already saw the trailer, and merely visited the article to see site thoughts + comments. Here’s to hoping that you guys do a breakdown like you do for other trailers. There is a LOT going on in this one.

          • This may be unrelated to the post… However, had to congratulate you sir on your fine work on this site. You employ talented entertaining writers, and keep the standards high. So, Thanks.

            • Thanks so much for saying so! It’s very much appreciated. :)

            • Second that. I have been coming to this site since the very beginning, and it has only gone up on quality year after year. Keep up the good work Vic.

            • What he said :)

      • some of work…you know

  5. Wow … That was kinda sexy , so does this trailer look better to yall now ?

  6. This trailer looks absolutely badass, really can’t wait. It seems like it’s going to be much bigger and more epic than I initially thought.

  7. Hooray for Colossus! And that ice slide gave me “chills.” Get it?

  8. Bobby will finally be Iceman!! Best part of the trailer!

    • Totally agree. Still have very little interest in this movie but the Iceman scene was frikkin’ awesome.

  9. Anyone else notice that there was no FOX logo at the beginning?

  10. I just liked the first X-men movies, and was not really excited for this UNTIL NOW! DAMN that trailer looks very very good, This is going to be a GREAT SUMMER for CBM! I cant wait to kick it all off with Cap: TWS what a fun time to be a CBM fan.

  11. Ice Slide about time 😀

  12. Im nt digging the poster. Fox is copying marvel studios ,that poster looks like a rip-off of both TTDW and IM3 posters with the many characters and the iron legion in the background

  13. Charles Xavier farting is all I can see in that poster…

  14. The trailer is tight, but damn that poster. That is one of the prettiest movie posters I’ve seen in a while. The orange and blue hues are great.

It reminds me a lot of the Iron Man 3 poster (especially with flying sentinels), but it’s still super tight.

      • Still, it’s not the same oversaturated hues of orange and blue that are so common elsewhere. It looks like they’re going with the same bright look of the Empire DoFP covers.

  15. Im proud to be a X-Men fan again, best trailer I’ve seen so far this year!

  16. It looks like this year all three studios are bringing their “A” game to the theaters. Its about time and a big win for comic book aficionados.
The only sad aspect is that it almost all is happening in May (except Guardians) but I can live with that for this quality of cinema experience.

  17. Even though I’ve read all the articles talking about how this will be the most expensive Super-Hero movie ever for some reason when I imagined what this movie would look like it usually feel in line with the rest of the series.
What I mean by that is I expected so-so effects. Even though I really liked First Class I thought it looked cheap and the only time I thought the effects looked great was during the opening sequence of X2.
That changes today because this looks amazing.
Epic is a word that’s used way to much lately (I’m even guilty of it) but I’m hard pressed to think of another word to describe what I think about this.

There’s still a chance that the movie could end up bad or so-so but judging by this it seems like Fox is going all out and as a fan of the genre I’m happy.

    • Exactly. If this is an accurate sample of the movie, tack on a 3+ hour runtime and this could be a game changer when it comes to comic book movies of this nature.

  18. Holy crap this trailer was amazing! I’ve always been looking forward to this movie, but this trailer just blew me away! I nerded out so many times, like when Bobby FINALLY used his Ice slide. That was awesome. And the sentinals look pretty cool too :)

  19. Thats scene where Young Prof X visits old prof X really looks like it could provide some powerhouse acting by McAvoy and Stewart.

  20. Wow. That trailer is excellent. I cannot wait for this movie and have a feeling that it will be one of the greatest super hero movies ever made to date.

  21. Any doubts I had about this movie are completely gone. Granted I am a hard core X-Men fan so my excitement should be taken with a grain of salt, I think this trailer looks amazing!

It does a good job echoing the very dark world from the DoFP comic.

  22. I said it before and I say it again, great film with good potential for Age of Apocalypse. I will watch it at least 3 times.

Just a piece of advice for the staff working with the X Men Franchise, don’t let those people of the F4 Crap get involved with you.

  23. This movie is gonna rock! :)

  24. Fear the explosive farts of prof xavier. His true power finally revealed in the new poster. Lol urg, whats with the photoshop hack jobs on movie posters these days?

Also storm is on the poster? Though she has like no screen time?

  25. This trailer did nothing for me, but I’m still going to see it because I’m an X-Men comics fan and I have no choice. I’ll probably just pay for a ticket to Winer Soldier or ASM2 and sneak into DOFP because I have a feeling those other movies will be more deserving of my money.

  26. I don’t understand why everyone is so excited this looks no better to me than it did before. I’m going to buy a ticket for Winter Soldier or ASM2 and sneak into this thing, because yeah I’m going to see it but I’m not going to give any money to it.

  27. 0:39 – I think the Avengers already did that.

But seriously, this looks a lot better than I expected. I thought it was going to be another X-Men movie where we watch Wolverine do things for a bit and then the film ends.

  28. Simply awesome. Captain America seems like forever to get here as does May for X-Men.
