Halle Berry Storm Costume X Men Days of Future Past Storms Costume & Another Character Revealed For X Men: Days of Future Past

The original X-Men film trilogy featured its titular mutant heroes sporting black leather costumes, designs that fans of the books met with mixed feelings. For the prequel X-Men: First Class, director Matthew Vaughn went with colorful, more practical designs that honored the original Marvel Comics.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past, a film that merges the trilogy with First Class, Bryan Singer returns to the director’s chair and has promised “no leather suits.” So, what do we get instead?

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine, Jackman sports regular clothing. In Days of Future Past, the story will flip back and forth between the ’70s (so expect time-appropriate attire) and an alternate near-future where giant mutant-hunting Sentinel robots hunt down our favorite heroes and villains. In this era, the X-Men and Brotherhood will sport more practical, slightly futuristic rugged clothing.

Production began on the film last week in Montreal and Bryan Singer tweeted a photo of Patrick Stewart in costume to celebrate the announcement. It was rather similar in aesthetic to today’s new photo of Halley Berry as Storm.

With Berry’s announcement that she’s pregnant with a second child, she says her role is being changed, but the wings on that costume may mean there’s still hope for the powerful mutant to utilize those powers against the Sentinels.

“Storm probably won’t be as badass as she was going to be because we won’t be able to do any fighting or flying or things like that. She’ll be different than we originally planned her to be but I still think she’ll be an integral part of this new X-Men movie.”

The costume is a big step-up however, from the X-Men trilogy get-up. The other interesting news from Twitter comes from Bryan Singer and some of the cast attending a Montreal Canadians game over the weekend. Joining the director were Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore and new cast member Adan Canto. Canto had a key role in The Following alongside Ashmore (and another X-Men actor, Kevin Bacon) and will seemingly be playing a mutant. We don’t know who yet, but the actor teased “I might turn into a ball of fire if someone pisses me off.”

Canto is a Mexican-born actor but knowing the franchise’s affinity for ignoring the backgrounds of international characters from Marvel Comics (see: Colossus, Banshee), he could be playing anyone from the Japanese Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) to the American characters Firefist (Rusty Collins) or Match (Ben Hamill). The most likely candidate however, is the Brazillian Sunspot (Roberto da Costa) who has the power to control solar energy (see below). He’s also got a temper which pays tribute to his hint.

Fun geek fact: There’s a female character named “Crux” who happens to be use a combination of Iceman and Sunfire’s powers and she’s… a french ice skater (see: Montreal Canadians connection).

With so many characters, separate by (at least) two time periods and many new faces joining the series, we wonder if if they’ll all get their chance to shine, let alone of meaningful dialogue. Most of the Hellfire Club mutants under Kevin Bacon’s command in First Class barely spoke.

Bryan Singer will direct X-Men: Days of Future Past with newcomers Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Boo Boo Stewart and Fan Bingbing, along with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore.

The Wolverine releases July 26, 2013, X-Men: Days of Future Past on July 18, 2014 and Fantastic Four on March 6, 2015.

  1. First of all, this is getting me excited. I like that the costume is a bit more futuristic, while also have a worn and tattered battle scarred look. She looks edgy. You don’t even see a baby bump. FYI, she also looks like she’s ready to take flight. We are going to see Storm do some awesome stuff one way or the other. Wether it be green screen, or stunt double will be good. Once again this may not be a finished product either. I think that Storm is gonna be awesome in the movie!

  2. Bryan Singer seems desperate to get the hype machine going for this. Superman Returns, Jack The Giant Slayer… you’re done, son. Time to hang it up. X-Men needs a proper film complete with costumes that originate from the source material, NOT Matrix.

    • Any of her comic costumes would have been so much better than this….thing.

  3. I always felt the X-men films were pretty lack luster. The costumes were horrid (and translated to a leather guy YMCA team uniform in the comics for a while) the dialogue was movie of the week quality and it showed a completely utter lack or love and respect for the source material.

First Class, while not what I’d call a good comic movie, was a huge step in the right direction right down to the blue and yellow team duds.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand why they opted to go with the guy who made a mockery of not only Superman but the first two X-men films as well.

As far as the costume, it looks like what I’d expect out of Singer. I mean they couldn’t put an “X” on that suit? I’m not saying that would make it a great costume or anything, but it shows how little these people care.

  4. Wow, they found a picture of HB posing and looking smug! I wonder how much budget money and lines of script were wasted to get her onboard?

  5. I have a question for you X-Men experts. I havent read any of the comics, but really liked the movies.

I dont understand why the killed half the cast. Do these characters (for example Jean Grey/Phoenix) die in the comic books as well?

If not it’s kinda like killing your golden goose. Imagine if they kill off Superman in the upcoming movie. Then what?

Maybe this makes better sense to the comic book readers :) I have a hard time understanding it though.

    • The Phoenix in X3 was horrible. In the comics, Dark Phoenix ate stars; that’s just how powerful she was. Also, in the comics, Jean did die but Mr. Sinister cloned her, and Scott and the new clone had a son (Cable).

      • Also, the clone was named Madelyne Prior, and had several different identities over the years.

      • Yeah Marvel seems to like making powerful female heroes only to either kill them or gimp them.

    • The Last Stand made no sense at all. They better be in an alternate reality.

    • Jean grey dies and dies often hence her alter ego Phoenix however Cyclops was killed because of the actors prior commitments and they needed a good reason that Cyclops wasn’t in the movie the professor was killed to surprise the audience I have no idea why they killed Darwin

  6. I dont understand why the killed half the cast. Do these characters (for example Jean Grey/Phoenix) die in the comic books as well?

    • I think she dies, but I also think it’s an alternative future, but I might be thinking of the animated series

    • In the original Phoenix story line Phoenix kills herself heroically to protect the universe. She could have loved to be a god but preferred to die a human. Oh and James Mardsen (Cyclops) was killed of in X3 to join singer on his other movie Superman. They both didn’t honor commitments and screwed X3.

      • Actually in the original comic story line Jean saves the rest of the X-men from radiation in a space shuttle. She was not saving the universe. But that storyline was pretty poorly done with them constantly changing whether Jean died or was saved by the Pheonix(in a cacoon) and/or was cloned. But I read the comic and it was only the X-men in that shuttle.

  7. My first impression: this is gonna suck.

  8. I believe in Singer and I hope this movie will fare well in theaters.

  9. I got a fever, and the only cure is more Mohawk.

  10. Go home Bryan, you are drunk.

  11. Oh please, just go home Halle. You were a terrible Storm and an even worse Catwoman and a laughable Bond girl.

  12. Go home Halle. You were a lame Storm, a horrible Catwoman and a laughable Bond girl.

  13. This is going to be something really interesting in X-Men.

  14. Oh, I’m sorry, but if Halle can’t do what is necessary, then find someone who can. Because I PROMISE YOU, what fans want is not a watered down, weak, non-flying, non-badass Storm. She doesn’t even look the part anymore, quite honestly.

    • I agree with everything you said BUT “She doesn’t even look the part…” I read the comics and she pretty much looks the part except in the comics she was darker and had long beautiful hair. The hair was the worst thing about the 1st X-men movie version Storm imo. They could have done the hair so much better. If they can make Wolverine tall(no runt jokes for Sabertooth) they can make Storm not have darker skin. She changed her hair in the comics enough that this short version is fine imo, at least it looks real now.

    • I AGREE

  15. What about Cyclops????? I know they “ridiculously” killed him off in the last film, which was absurd that Jean (even in Phoenix form) would really kill him. He is the Leader of the Xmen, even thou they made him look so weak and less than a leader in the first three films. How can you do an Xmen movie without the leader????? I was a huge fan of the comic books growing up and have a large childhood collection. I was more than disappointed with how they portrayed Cyclops in the series. He should have had a much larger part, right along side of Wolverine.

    • If you read the comics you would know that he was not the only leader. I don’t even think he was the best(matter of opinion for sure)even though I think was quite good at it. I grew up reading them too. I still remember Storm’s 1st night in the swimming pool :) and Logan cutting that bullet in half.

  16. Am I the only who would like to see the costume storm had in the Fox’s 90 cartoon and the same long hair I’m not feeling this looking that much it’s kinda………..Blah!!! And honestly I think storm will still be flying and kicking ass it just won’t be berry in the the harnest doing all that.

    • You are not the only one. That cartoon was MUCH closer to the comics and was GREAT as a result…..except for Storm giving speeches when she used her powers, she did NOT do that in the comics. That was just silly.

  17. They are never gonna make exact copies of the cartoons or comics costume. However, we will see them take a little from every costume influence.
You aren’t going to see X’s on the costumes most likely because this team is in a sentinel ruled future where I would assume the X-MEN are so much X-MEN but freedom fighters fighting to survive. In this regard I like the costume and Storm look. Also, no Halle won’t be doing most the stuff in the harnest because she’s pregnant. However, she will be able to do most that is required of her and for the action scenes she can’t do…they will use her stunt double and computer graphics. God, give her a break people. I can’t wait to see Storm and the final product!

  18. P.S. Halle Berry is Storm. Nothin anyone can do about it. They are not gonna replace her, get over it already and stop bitching. Just because she pregnant doesn’t mean she can’t do what she has to do. If they have a stunt double step in for some of the scenes, so what! We won’t notice. We will still see a Storm that kicks ass! Also, if they write Storm right this time around I know that Berry can deliver.

    • Um sorry to tell you but you are 100% wrong!!! You are saying quote “Just because she pregnant doesn’t mean she can’t do what she has to do.”… Obviously you didn’t read the story, because that’s exactly what they said!!! Quote “she says her role is being changed” and “Storm probably won’t be as badass as she was going to be because we won’t be able to do any fighting or flying or things like that. She’ll be different than we originally planned her to be but I still think she’ll be an integral part of this new X-Men movie.” So buddy you see that she actually CAN’T do what she needs to do, and her look??? Ridic, she should have a long hair and not short that looks like a gray dude!

    • Thank you Nick for defending both Halle and the costumes I doubt they will ever make any costumes truer to the comics than First class and this one does look like several versions of the alternate future storm uniforms

  19. I think it’s super cute that you think that I would state what I did without checking up on the facts…….buddy.

While in Buenos Aires promoting “The Call,” a recently announced pregnant Halle Berry told local press that she will begin filming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST next week, and that her stunt double “will have a lot more work” in the film. states:
Berry insists that she “can still do almost everything the role requires,” saying “I’ll be able to shoot the film without problems and [afterwards] I don’t plan to continue working until early next year.”………..end quote

All I was stating is that there is no reason why Storm will not have as much action do to the fact of having a stunt double and other tech at the directors fingertips …buddy.

Berry gave that first interview before filming started and the second one after. She stated in the second that her stunt double would be much more busy in this film. Which would lead me to believe Storm will have plenty of action…… buddy.

  20. So, I’m thinking…nope I wasn’t a 100% wrong…..buddy ;)

  21. KAS: I agree with you and it’s my pleasure ;)

  22. The movie is going to suck! Halle Berry was the worst!!! She could not act, could not fly or glide on air right as she called herself in the first movie. She was not believable as Storm or Catwomen. And if she can’t fly or fight release her from the contract! Just replace her and make the fans happy. Bryan Singer also should not direct another marvel or superhero movie! He ruined the Phoenix saga storyline, he killed the leader Cyclops, and Rogue converted to be human. Even more upset he changes the script for Halle Berry/ Storm how is she not going fight against the Sentanals! I would like to watch awesome special effects and fight scenes other then Wolverines scenes. Just replace the both of them and make the fans happy to produce a quality X-Men franchise.

    • oh…and the custom is corny! Storms uniform was white and classy!
