James Proudstar X Men Comics Warpath Bishop & Warpath Confirmed For X Men: Days of Future Past

Over the weekend we learned of another new face joining the X-Men film franchise in Adan Canto (The Following). Much like Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy and Boo Boo Stewart, it has yet to be official revealed what characters each are playing, leaving fans to speculate on characters and story arc from Marvel Comics.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past introducing time travel into the franchise there are a few key characters from the books – yet to be introduced in films – that fans see as must-include. And as it turns out, Bryan Singer has done just that.

One of the new faces, Fan Bingbing, is confirmed to be playing the character of Blink – a mutant key in the Age of Apocalypse storyline. We don’t know if Singer is going that route with the sequel to both X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: The Last Stand, but his reactions to questions on the subject and rumors around the casting additions lend credence to that possibility. If Fox wants to go big with their own mutant-heavy Marvel Universe, Apocalypse is the way to do it.

Similar to Marc Webb’s promotion of the production of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Singer has taken to Twitter to use the platform as the the official Days of Future Past marketing device – saving Twentieth Century Fox plenty of dollars – and his most recent tease featuring Halle Berry in a new costume, earned somewhat mixed reactions from readers here on Screen Rant. Perhaps to address the negative and generate plenty of excitement, he’s tweeted the following Vine video today, confirming the introduction two important fan-favorite characters from the book by using chairs, literally:

Lucas Bishop of course, is a mutant form a post-apocalyptic future who travels back through time to meet the current mutants. In recent years of Marvel Comics, Bishop has jumped around quite a bit, not just in time, but with his allegiances. His mutant powers allow him to absorb and redirect energy, which will come in handy should the film’s take on the giant mutant-hunting Sentinel robots shoot lasers.

James Proudstar (Warpath) on the other hand, is an Apache Native American with the mutant abilities of strength and speed. He initially took on a villainous role after his brother died as an X-Men, but he joined the light side and became a member of Wolverine’s X-Force team.

Both are important characters in X-history and both have personalities, costumes, weapons and abilities that could work wonders on screen in action sequences. The character confirmations also seem to answer the question of who Omar Sy is playing. It’s a safe bet he’s Bishop, but does that leave the young Booboo Stewart as Warpath? That doesn’t quite fit the visual design of the books, but it could be a younger James Proudstar from the ’70s we see on screen.

The other infamous time-traveling mutant Cable doesn’t seem to be part of the formula, at least not yet in the movies. His inclusion would also serve as an obvious path for Twentieth Century Fox to launch the stuck-in-development Deadpool film. There still however, could be other characters in the film, or as we learned over the weekend with Adan Canto, already part of the cast.

Bryan Singer will direct X-Men: Days of Future Past with newcomers Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Boo Boo Stewart, Fan Bingbing and Adan Canto, along with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore.

The Wolverine releases July 26, 2013, X-Men: Days of Future Past on July 18, 2014 and Fantastic Four on March 6, 2015.

Let me know on Twitter @rob_keyes who you’d cast as Bishop and Warpath!

  1. I am looking forward to the movie.

  2. I am not looking forward to the movie.

    • Splendid

    • then y bother clicking on the article? @Filth

      • Just to see how much more fail Fox will try to pack into an already bloated and dying franchise… that’s all.

        • Agreed.
Same reason I watch fail compilations on youtube.

As sick of reboots I may be, the Xmen franchise most of all needed to be rebooted.

          • Yeah reboot everything….damn solution to averything lately…you 2 should work in Hollywood lol. Brian Singer is going to correct most of what was wrong in the horrible X-men The Last Stand movie. X-men 1 and 2 are good movies and First class is awsome. So a reboot here is not needed. The Wolverine is a kind of reboot of the not so good X-men Origins Wolverine. So that is fixed so nothing wrong with the X-men universe….the only concern is maybe too much caracters but i am positive this will be an awsome movie.

            • He will fix whats come before by introducing what is starting to resemble a massive cluterf**k of several storylines into a two hour movie.

  3. I’m starting to wonder if human beings will even exist in this movie.

    • Mutants are humans…..evolved humans.

  4. Canto as Warpath?

If not, I have no clue.

    • He was hinting at fiery explosions though – I think he’s Sunspot. Unless he was intentionally throwing people off. Canto is pretty built.

      • True, completely forgot about that unless he is either throwing us off or he was using fiery explosions as a sort of red herring since you can associate them with someone/something “going on the warpath” too.

Pretty cool to speculate though with this huge cast until things are locked down and confirmed.

    • Booboo Stewart.

  5. Singer is ttying way too hard to generate hype with these blogs. Too desperate.

Superman Returns and Jack were garbage. Quit while you’re ahead.

  6. So it appears it will be taking various storyline and mushing them under ‘Days of Future Past’.

While I enjoy the inclusion of other characters hopefully they will keep it… low key enough to logically (well as logical as you can with comics and time travel) fix the X Universe.

  7. these tweets are really starting to p**s me off. seriously, why cant i watch this video?

    stupid vine

  8. I really want this to be a good film, but I don’t know how they are going give all of these awesome characters enough screen time to do them any justice. I’m also worried that the story will seem disjointed and overwhelming when incorporating all of these characters into the film.

With that said, I’ve been wanting to see a film with Bishop in it.I have a feeling that this may even lead up to an installment featuring Apocalypse.

    • thats EXACTLY what I was thinking right now.

With Blink and Bishop now confirmed, I have the feeling Singer and the producers have something even bigger in store for next movie, and of course with the final return of long awaited Cyclops.

If this movie ends showing the past event was prevented and the future changes, Fox may be on a winner for the future sequels.

An Age of Apocalypse movie or two parts movies would be E P I C. And perfect closure to this franchise, before the reboot, around 2020 or so.

  9. I hope this movie is amazing, but I’m curious to see how they incorporate all of the characters into the story.

    • One cameo after another thats how. They’ll appear never to be seen again or wont even say a signke word and be used in one of the larger action set pieces. Prob first 10-20 mins on the future with an all out war mutant vs sentinels.

  10. I predicted Bishop was going to be in this movie.

    Whoot! Whoot!

    • As for the multiple storyline logic, the movie will only follow one specific storyline. All the cameos are quick heartbeats, which Bishop experiences as he moves through time. Bishop’s mission will be to… save the X-Men. In order for him to restore the timeline, Bishop will recruit specific members throughout history. Remember, Bishop and Cable are from the future. If Jeane Gray and Cyclopes are dead, the most famous X-Men in history will not be born. Cable.

When the movie’s title was first revealed, I came onto ScreenRant and gave a series of predictions. Brian is going to wipe out “X-Men II: and “X-Men: III”. I knew it.

      • Bishop teleports Cyclops away at the last minute then travels to grab Jean’s body as she’s slowly dying and helps bring her back from the brink?

That’s the only logical way I can think to fix what happened in X3.

        • I am going to watch the movies tonight. It will be fun to speculate about how this will be happen. If Brian is able to pull this off, I bet a possible Apocalypse and/or Mr. Sinister movie will happen.

I am speculating BIG time here, but who else besides Thanos would raise Marvel way-way above DC? Apocalypse.

          —–

While on the X-Men subject, I think the next Wolverine movie should be about Omega Red.

          • Not if DC uses Darkseid as its root villain. Darkseid is the big motha villain in DC. Thanos and Apocalypse cannot compare. Only thing is, DC probably won’t use him as he is too similar to Thanos.

            • Check out the “Age of Apocalypse” and “Onslaught” series.

I bet you will change your tune.

              • he will…i am shure he will…..

                • I read all of them. But when it comes down to it, Onslaught didn’t last. Apocalypse isn’t the major threat. Darkseid is, and he keeps coming back. (Assuming this is Pre-Crisis)

                  • When I say he isn’t the major threat, I mean that the Dark Phoenix saga and others were more compelling, because they had more powerful villains. Apocalypse may be powerful, but he is not powerful enough to take on the likes of the Justice League.

                    • Since Apocalypse´s power is to control molecules, he could eat the whole f*cking Justice League for breakfast.

      • The movie will follow one story line however Im almost positive it will incorporate different stories from the books.

I haven’t read it in awhile but I am almost 100% sure Bishop is not in Uncanny 141/142 which is the main story of Days of Future Past.

I do remember the cartoon having Bishop in it. However there was no Kitty Pride.

In doing a little back reading Days of Future Past is not even in the current Marvel Universe Timeline. DoFP is 811 mainstream is 816?

Dont know what the movies are. So they come more from an alternate Universe so to speak?

        • As I mentioned further down the page, I knew the protagonist role had changed over time. Withing the original “X-Men: Animated Series”, as you pointed out, Bishop played the role of the savior.

Within the original animated series, Bishop had to save the X-Men for two reasons. First, Task and the Sentinels turned the future into hell, and all mutants were hunted down. Second, as a result of Jean and Scott’s death, Cable (Nathan Summers) was not born. Since Cable is the only one who can ‘kill’ Apocalypse, the X-Men of the future were not able to stop him.

Finally, I agree. “Days of Future past” the movie may contain elements, which derive or enhance both versions of the story.

        • Uncanny X-Men 141 & 142 are in the mainstream 616 universe, except for the scenes set in the alternate future.

The animated show mixed that storyline with the story about Bishop´s first appearence and parts of Legion Quest and Age of Apocalypse.

      • Ultimate Cable is a future version of Wolverine.

        Get ready for it.

        • They won´t dare, will they?

      • Cable is certainly not the most famous X Man.

  11. i really hope he dont mess this up for us all

    • I agree. “Days of Future Past” is a complex story, which could go wrong in many different ways. I just hope Singer does it right.

      • DOFP is a complex story?! It´s a two issue story… Very complex.

        • They seem to be complicating it just fine by using multiple source material beyond those two issues. Singer and company should just be more forthcoming and say this movie is named after a two issue arc that people might recognize and loosely based on about five different stories that they are tying together for whatever reason.

    • Well, if he messes it up, Fox will do a reboot, so hope is not lost. :D

  12. none of this matters, since bryan singer is a terrible director

    • He directed The Usual Suspects, your opinion is invalid.

    • If it wasn’t for Brian the Comic book franchise nor the X-men franchise would be what it is today, you can say he almost saved that. When did you become an expert on Directing?
And if you say no, then Brian must have done something right to make you even want to click in on an article about this franchise.

      • Actually if it wasn’t for Blade being successful you wouldn’t have Bryan farting up the Xmen in the first place.

        • Nonsense. All Blade did was affirm to Avi Arad that Marvel’s 2nd and 3rd tier characters had box office validity. I don’t believe for a second that it had any serious baring on X-Men’s green-light. X-Men/X2 both still hold up great considering when they were made there was absolutely no precedent for them. So quit ya hating and respect them for what they are.

          • Not hate, just fact Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch.

          • Okay, both of you are right. Blade’s success was definitely important. But, X Men would have been made into a movie regardless of whether Blade had succeeded or not. Still, the success of Blade, in both the theater and on DVD, did give Marvel a lot of confidence.

            • Eloquently stated, thank you sir.

      • Everyone has a right to their opinion, but saying Singer did anything to help or enhance the X-Men comic books is a real stretch. He did two movies that were not total laughing stocks based on a major Marvel title and somehow has ridden that wave back to the franchise after his attempt to “save” Superman did not live up the Warner’s expectations.

  13. @Rob Keyes Fox can’t use Cable because he’s with Marvel.

    • “X-Men” is a Marvel Comics series. Its not a DC comics franchise.

      • Cable is the son of Jean and Scott. Since Fox is taking out the heavy guns, I think the only thing they have to do is ask for permission. If they are able to get Bishop, Fox can no doubt get their hands on Cable.

        • Jean’s clone Madeline Pryor was Cable’s mother.

    • Cable (and all mutants) are owned by Fox. They can use him and according to Rob Liefeld (his creator), Cable and Deadpool were up for discussion for future films after X-Men Origins: Wolverine debuted.

The only exceptions are Quicksilber and Scarlet Witch who can – by technicality – be used by BOTH Marvel Studios and Twentieth Century Fox… and hence, neither are using them.

      • Yet.

        • Ever.

          • How can you tell?

  14. I apologize if I accidentally revealed anything. Since “Days of Future Past” has been written in two formats, (tv & comic books), the majority of the fans know how the story unfolds. Even though the sequence of events may change, the overall motivations of the protagonist remains the same. What will be fun is to see “Days of Future Past” unfold in live action.

  15. I’m happy to see these reveals, but honestly doesn’t matter too much to me. I’m def going to see the movie!!! But they have to bring back Cyclops and Jean!!! If they don’t I’m going to be so angry. I love X1 and X2!! F this movie brings those two characters back, then we can truly pretend X3 didn’t happen!!!

  16. hmmmmm How bad would it be to wipe it all except for First Class? I mean you have Xavier, Erik, Beast, Mystique and Logan.

It is just finding the point to kill off the 3 X’s and Wolverine movies.

    • Can’t happen surely with wolverine 2 out shortly? That’s set after X3

  17. I’m happy that Bishop is going to be in it, but I would have rather had it as a surprise.

  18. remember that Days of Future Past involved a future where Senator Kelley was assassinated by Gambit and in order to save his world Bishop travles back to the 21st Century to kill Gambit and prevent Senator Kelley’s assassination. this leads Apokalypse to develop the Mutant Plague later on.

    • That was only in the animated series. The original comic story was totally different.

  19. Warpath will be killed in over/under 42 minutes. Any takers?

    • Or sooner. I’m worried about all the extra characters, but then I remember the plot from the comics. So I’m expecting a lot of brief cameos. But yeah Warpath went pretty quick in the comics, years before this storyline.

      • Warpath was Thunderbird 2, the younger brother of the guy that was blown up in a plane.

  20. Bishop, Warpath…well, OK. Maybe Cable at some future point? Would not mind seeing Banshee and Havok as adults. Kitty Pryde having a bigger role is good, but I would like to have seen Nightcrawler back. An adult Polaris would be OK, too. Sentinels are a very good thing to have in this flick, but I have said it a zillion times, and will say it again, first and foremost: ***WHERE’S CYCLOPS?! WE NEED CYCLOPS!! LOTS AND LOTS OF CYCLOPS!!*** I doubt too many other fanboys and girls would disagree….!

    • Glad Storm is back as well. What a babe!

      • Having Storm around would not rain on my parade at all!

  21. Hmm, an indian character. Bet Johnny Dipp, er, Depp, plays him.

  22. Who is “Boo-Boo Stewart”? A friend of Yogi Bear?

  23. I want Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister for the next villains in the next movie.

  24. I wonder…in some future movie, could cable come back from the future, save cyclops at the last moment (just as we thought Phoenix/Jean Gray had killed him), and take him back to the future for a time, explaining Cyke’s absence, and then return him back to the present to be in subsequent movies…and isn’t Cable Cyke’s son in the future? that would justify Cable’s existance, and…shades of terminator….this sounds familiar, I just realized! And just in time for Cyke to lead the effort to fend off apocalypse and Mr. Sinister in the next movie!

  25. Not to familiar with Warpath, but Bishop is a beast.

I hope this movie will be good, but I would not count on it.

  26. I’m not too familiar with the X-men universe, but I know that he’s a fan favorite so x-men fans should be happy. However, in my opinion, it was stupid to reveal this. They could’ve saved Bishops reveal for a teaser trailer or a trailer to generate excitement.

  27. why is everyone not making a big deal about Blink? This has age of apocolypse written all over it. With Bishop having to travel back in time to stop the murder of Xavier.

    • She was first in the mainstream Uncanny X-Men books during the Phalanx crossover.

  28. They’ll defecate on Bishop and Cable the same way they defecated on Gambit.

    FUX FOX

    Bane

    • And Cyclops..

      • And Deadpool, Sabretooth, and almost everyone else.

  29. canto will probably playing thunderbird while booboo stewart will play warpath.
