Peter Dinklage Face Scars Game of Thrones season 3 X Men: Days of Future Past Teaser Photos Hints at Peter Dinklages Character?

It’s become abundantly clear in the last year that the world of comic book movies has changed in the wake of The Avengers. While Warner Bros. and DC look to jumpstart their shared movie universe with next month’s Man of Steel, Fox and Sony are taking matters into their own hands with the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises, respectively.

Casting announcements for both Marvel properties have run rampant for months now, but while Sony has been revealing which iconic characters the Amazing Spider-man 2 actors will be portraying, Fox has taken quite the opposite approach with regard to its new cast additions for next year’s time-bending mutant adventure X-Men: Days of Future Past.

We’ve known for a while that Hugh Jackman and virtually the entire cast of the X-Men film trilogy are set to join the principal characters of First Class. Neither Fox nor director Bryan Singer have announced who any of the new cast members are playing, leading to no small amount of guesswork on the part of sites like ours.

However, Singer himself recently took to Twitter to reveal what may be the latest clue about who Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage will play. Here’s Singer’s tweet followed by the accompanying image:

The above photo may not seem immediately forthcoming as far as the identity of Dinklage’s character. Yet, it’s worth mentioning that Dinklage himself seems to be sporting a thick mustache that just so happens to reflect the comic book depiction of Bolivar Trask. In the comics, Trask was the man responsible for the creation of the mutant-hunting robots known as Sentinels, and it’s been heavily speculated that Dinklage will be playing the main villain of Days of Future Past, which is expected to prominently feature The Sentinels.

It’s starting to look more and more likely that Dinklage – as has long been rumored – will be playing the X-Men movie universe version of Trask, but there’s one problem with that. The character has already been included in a previous X-Men film. Bill Duke portrayed Trask in X-Men: The Last Stand as the Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security and, in that regard, has already gone up against Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants, at least to some extent.

The two actors clearly bear no resemblance, but Trask’s role in Last Stand was minimal at best. Considering that the film is widely regarded among the weakest entries in the X-Men franchise, it is possible that Singer has merely opted to ignore his appearance in that film as a canonical part of Days of Future Past. On the other hand, he could also embrace that the character was introduced and simply redefine him for this story. However, such an approach would seem contrary to Singer’s intention of cleaning up a few of the continuity issues plaguing the existing films.

Do you think Singer’s tweet implies that Dinklage is playing Trask, or do you need more evidence to convince you? Let us know in the comments what you hope to see in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

X-Men: Days of Future Past stars franchise newcomers Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Boo Boo Stewart and Fan Bingbing, along with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, and Daniel Cudmore.

The Wolverine releases July 26th, 2013, X-Men: Days of Future Past on July 18th, 2014 and Fantastic Four on March 6th, 2015.

  1. Singer: “Want to mess with some comic fans?”
    Dinklage: “Sure!”
    Singer: “Here, put this on.”
    Dinklage: “Oooo! Macho!”

    • Actually in that get-up he looks more like Puck from Alpha Flight to me. Who, if i recall correctly, was part of the DoFP Storyline.

      • Either way, Dinklage is a good actor.

        • YES And that All I Care about

      • with the mustache and the beanie he does look like puck

      • I’m with you. It’s Puck and Yliesa he was part of the DoFP story.

      • My first thought was Puck!

      • Exactly what I thought upon seeing the photo.

      • I agree. Puck.

        • puck, thought of him when i saw the mustache

      • That get-up is his everyday clothes, not a movie outfit! The recent on-set pic of him in a tailored suit screams more Trask than Puck IMHO.

      • Puck is a terrible character and should remain in the forgotten pages of alpha flight comics. That whole team was garbage to be honest, if people feel the Mandarin is a horrible racial stereotype in the comics.. Then dear god look at alpha flight..

        • Sadly, the same goes for just about every non-US character/location in Marvel comics…

  2. I really don’t think he’s gonna be Trask. To base an entire article on an assumption made simply because they both have mustahces is kinda silly. Also, there is no way they’re gonna be able to fix all the issues with the X-MEN franchise. It’s just too far from the source material that trying to add source material in there just ends up seeming out of place.

    • If you had actually read the article, you’d know it’s not just the mustache.

  3. I think he’ll be playing mustacho man

  4. What?! Bear no resemblance?! It’s like Dinklage is looking into a mirror…

  5. I think he will puck, puck, from Alpha Flight

  6. It’s funny how people are bashing this movie already, why comment on here then? It’s annoying.

    • Seriously. I think it’s annoying that you took the time to point out how annoying it is that people are “bashing this movie already” and commenting here… on this public comment board. How dare they? LOL. What the hell is a “war clown”?

      • Oh, and my first thoughts were Puck.

  7. The looks on Dinklage’s face looking at that script makes me think he’s playing Apocalypse……

  8. He’s clearly playing Colin Farrell in a Miami Vice reboot.

  9. Its either puck or brainchild.

  10. I’ll have to watch Last Stand again to see if Trask was mentioned by name. I don’t think he was. In the credits, he may have been Trask.

    There is *one* other possibility.
Both the character in Last Stand and the alleged character in Futures Past are Bolivar Trask! At some point a mutant goes for revenge and alters Trask’s DNA and changes him from Tyrion to Mac !

    Another off the wall thinking…?
    A simple matter of recasting.

BTW, I’m more leaning to the Puck theory.

    • I am almost positive the president referred to him as “Secretary Trask”. But never by Bolivar Trask. They could just write it off as a same-last-name coincidence and never address it. They did something similar in Spider-man 3. In the first Spider-man movie, Robbie Robertson mentions that “Eddie” has been trying to get pictures of Spider-man for weeks and everyone assumed it was a subtle nod to Eddie Brock but later in the third film Eddie Brock is introduced into the story as a new character and not someone who has been working at the Daily Bugle all this time.

  11. Puck was the first thing that came to mind… But it is Bryan Singer, so Dinklage is probably playing Wolverine from Earth-811.

    • Haha. “So you guys want a shorter Wolverine, huh?! Well, f*ck you, here he is!”

    • I’ve never laughed so hard in my entire life. Guess that’s when I know I’m a comic book fan when an alternate universe joke gets me giddy.
There actually is an Earth 811 though where Wolverine is 5’3. Were you being serious?
      Regardless I haven’t stopped laughing.

      • I thought Wolverine in the main stream universe was about 5’3? That has always been my one issue with Hugh and why I always thought Chris Benoit was a better (size wise) Wolverine option that and he is Canadian.

        • You are aware Chris Benoit committed murder-suicide on his whole family, right? He’s been dead for like 8 years.

          • Yes. However he was alive when Xmen first came out. And the murder suicide was possibly a mixture of drugs and head trauma. Which if he had been moved away from Wrestling may not have happened.

          • Im assuming they meant the Benoit’s proportions were better suited for a live action wolverine and thus to use the guy’s build as a guide to find a suitable actor. But who knows

            • They who?

As for using him since he has passed and we dont know he could have been a fine actor to portray Wolverine.

              • Chris Benoit was 5’10 though. Although his “Rabid Wolverine” nickname when he moved from WCW to WWE probably helped you think along those lines.

The only pro wrestler I ever wanted to see in a comic book movie back in the early days was Brock Lesnar as Eddie Brock/Venom. Perfect look, he had the perfect size too when he was 295 pounds (before he dropped all the weight to beocme UFC World champ and then lost more weight when he had that near-fatal intestine infection that retired him from MMA).

                • No the rabid Wolverine did not.

His stature (at least compared to the other wrestlers) made him look smaller. With your 5’10, Wikis 5’11′ and the 5’9 I read earlier has me baffled as to how tall he was.

Still he is shorter and stockier then Hugh who stands at 6’2 and is a ‘thinner’ muscular build.

And he is Canadian. I still think (look wise) he would have made a better Wolverine. Again acting who knows and we will never know. What I do know when I think Wolverine actor the first I think of is Chris Benoit.

                  • I think they lucked out getting Hugh Jackman. He’s always been extremely committed to the role and is now synonymous with Wolverine.

I guess it’s good they never picked up Benoit. I can’t imagine the PR nightmare of distancing a franchise from a dude that murdered his family.

  12. There is another possibility of who he might portray… What about Puck, from Alpha Flight… Peter Dinklage would fit that role fabulously… aside from the obvious physical traits they share, Mr. Dinklage has shown he is able to play an intelligent, wise-cracking tough guy… that would also help tie into Wolverines past more.

    Thank you

  13. Since this movie is a time-travel piece, while in the Marvel Universe, I predict that he will play a Watcher.

    • I love this idea. “Oh yeah?! Screw you, I’m bigger than everybody.” That would be some good stuff…and I’d like to get Uatu into the Marvel screen universe.

    • You assume Bryan singer even cares about X-Men Canon lol.

  14. Why not Puck and introduce the Alpha Flight Squad for the movie?

    • Because alpha flight is horrible.

      • +1

  15. I think he might be playing Puck from Alpha Flight!

  16. Hey does anybody think this guy might be playing Puck from Alpha Flight?

    • Hey does anybody think Not Zura might be skipping the other comments?

  17. SINGER, YOU CAN’T JUST IGNORE PREVIOUS ESTABLISHED ELEMENTS IN A STORY FRANCHISE! Even if it was established by an over-rated filmmaker in a dungpile of a movie. It’s a mark of bad storytelling on your part if you just pick and choose what “counts” and what doesn’t.

    • Man, I really got him with that comment. I know he’s reading this right now and I’m sure he’ll take my advice to heart and make changes immediately.

  18. Oh WAIT. Read into tweet “…flight back to Montreal…”. Is this code? He said flight and Montreal. Montreal is in Canada. So is Alpha Flight. Puck is in Alpha Flight. Dinklage is Puck. Case closed.

    • Maybe its cus they are litterally on a plane from La to MTL were the movie’s production is shooting? Crazy I know.

      • You don’t get heavy sarcasm, do you?

        • To his credit, you being sarcastic in this comment was far from obvious. Half the commenters on this blog have made the exact same assumption and you sounded just as adamantly serious as them all.

  19. I would question where Yaniz thought he was going to be Trask? Did you just flip through Xmen pictures online looking for the first character that had a mustache?

And 2 out of those 3 pictures do not resemble a ‘thick’ mustache.

I could be wrong but I think you missed the boat so much on this one you were at the airport.

    • i know right…maybe dinklage will play forge *sarcasm* he has an exceptionally large mustache.

      • ooo oo he could make some legs for himself so he is taller. I think you got it.

  20. Dinklage is really cool and everything, but I just don’t want a small man in this movie. It just ruins it for me. I want cool/sexy, sorry Dinklage.

    • Then don’t go watch the effin’ movie if it bugs you that much. Your loss, Dinklage is a great actor.

  21. So my assumption is everyone is in agreement it may be Puck?

    • Nope.

  22. OF COURSE he’s Puck, it’s in the title of the tweet for god’s sake.

    Jeez you’re slow.

    • No it’s not, and evidence is piling up that he’s gonna be Trask.

Better be slow than a fool.

  23. I hate fanboys

    • without fan boys no comics would exist…therefore their would be no comic book movies. your welcome.

    • …says the guy with the Sacred Trilogy avatar in the Star Wars font!

  24. He could play Jean Grey

  25. Take a look at any image of PUCK from Alpha Flight. Wolvereen actually was in Alpha Flight for a time.

  26. Just cause he has a mustache does not mean he is Trask. I honestly dont know how you could come to any type of close conclusion based just on that, being that the last man to play Trask was black and has no facial hair what-o-ever. I dont even see eyebrows on that dude.

and Clearly He is playing all the Sentinels.
