‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Featurette Shows Off Blink’s Powers

Published 12 months ago by

Many of the mutants in X-Men: Days of Future Past are ones that we’ve seen before, whether they’re mainstays of the franchise, like Wolverine, or new versions of old characters, like Evan Jonigkeit as a young Toad. With a massive cast of main and regular characters, however, X-Men: Days of Future Past also adds quite a few new faces from the comic books.

One of these mutants is Clarice Ferguson AKA Blink, played by Fan Bingbing (Beginning of the Great Revival). Fan, who also had a very small role in the Chinese cut of Iron Man 3, certainly looks very striking even among the colorful and bizarre members of the X-Men, with her bright green eyes and purple-streaked hair. As a new character featurette about Blink shows, however, there’s a lot more to her than just her looks.

Unlike other teleporters (Nightcrawler, for example) who simply zap themselves from one place to another, Blink’s ability works by creating a set of portals that function as a door through which either herself or other characters can pass. This means that she can use her powers either to quickly escape from tough situations, or defensively by throwing one into the path of an attacking enemy, which should prove useful in a fight against the terrifying Sentinels.

According to the early reviews of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Blink doesn’t get a whole lot of lines in the movie – though with so many characters jostling for space that’s probably to be expected. Since X-Men: Apocalypse is set in the 1980s rather than the future it may unfortunately be some time before we see her again.

Other new mutants to keep an eye out for in X-Men: Days of Future Past are Sunspot (Adan Canto), Bishop (Omar Sy), Warpath (Booboo Stewart) and Quicksilver (Evan Peters). Quicksilver in particular has been widely praised as having one of the movie’s best action scenes, but Blink looks like she’ll be a formidable addition to the team as well.

Tell us in the comments whether you like the look of Blink’s powers in action, and if you’re hoping to see her again in future sequels.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is out in theaters on May 23, 2014.

  1. Would it be likely to see her in the X-Force movie? I hope so! But it’s so far away…

  2. An East Asian gal with the last name Ferguson? She does not look mixed, but darn if she ever pretty

    • I’d buy that for a dollar.

    • Or she is adopted. Not that hard to explain.

    • Her last name is Fan ake 范, not Ferguson…

      • I believe he’s referring to the character she plays in the film.

  3. Now you’re thinking with portals.

  4. Bingbing looks like Elizabeth Olsen in that pic above.

  5. The portal effect looks awesome! She’s definitely a character I’m looking forward to seeing in the movie. Hopefully she’ll have a larger role in an X-Force movie 😀

  6. shes a stunner dayum <3

  7. The character is intriguing and the young actress has presence and sells it.

Definitely would like more of Blink.

    • Unfortunately, the writers/producers said they have no plans using her in future movies like Age of Apocalypse, but I hope they reconsider since she is one of the top fan favorites so far.

  8. Looking forward to this movie, but….
WHERE’S CYCLOPS!!?? (–you knew I was gonna say it–)!

  9. Looks cool in action. I’ve seen a few featurettes and tv spots now and they have blow the trailers out of the water, for me. The tv spot I saw last night was awesome. It was showing a bit more of the 70’s action with Magneto and the Sentinels.

    • Saw that TV spot as well, and I must say, it was the first time I actually regained interest into this film. I feel sort of let down from the earlier X-Men films, as most of us do, but having grown up on them, they were always my favorite group. When the films first came out it was exciting and they seemed great, but they aren’t aging well at all, in my opinion.

      • Very true. I still stand by my opinion that the marketing for this movie was/is horrible. Especially the first and last trailers. I know I’m in the minority but I think there is an issue if tv spots are getting more excited than trailers.

For me the best bits of marketing so far have been the extended look at the opening sequence and the tv spot I mentioned above. I’ll just forget the third trailer with the music that made it seem like a joke or something.

  10. It seems to me that her power is not ‘teleportion’ per se (unlike Nightcrawler), as opposed to ‘portal creation’.

    • No she can teleport using her portals…its a weird power…she can also teleport other people.

But blink was never asian in the comics…Clarice Ferguson was mixed race of west indian descent. I would have prefered to see someone of mixed race in the role like Jurnee Smollet or the little girl from Hunger Games…I mean this chick doesnt even speak english, shes a throw away character, which is a shame for such an interesting and fan favorite character.

  11. @Iceman that’s Bryan Singer for you. He always f***s up badasx X-Men characters just look at Cyclops for an example and Rogue. What I don’t get is why Pyro not in this movie he could’ve shared time with Sunspot I bet those scenes would’ve been awesome.

  12. (SPOILER)

If this is following the X-Men Legends 2 flavor of story path, Blink will be back in X-Men Apocalypse when they rescue her from the Dead Zone. I guarantee that. You can also read it in the comic books.

  13. She’s my all-time favorite X-Men character.

  14. They should add blink to the next sequence… Jus Love her… She’s simply awesome… My all Time favorite <3 pls consider her…

  15. I like her look and power, so cool. Hope she had more screen time

  16. She looks great and the action sequences are awesome — those purple portals are a variation on Kitty Pryde’s power as shadowcat and of course Nightcrawler. I loved the scenes where she ports people all over the place — so convenient and limited only by imagination! Hope to see more of her character in future movies!
