San Diego Comic-Con 2015 is now in full force, with Hall H busier than ever with a load of big panels to get through today. Among them is the 20th Century Fox panel, where attendees will be treated to a sneak peek of their upcoming superhero flicks.
X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer previously revealed that the film – which recently shot a massive destruction scene – will indeed be present at the panel later today (at the time of writing this). But before fans get an inside look at Apocalypse and potentially some footage from the film, a new poster for the movie is being given out at SDCC 2015.
The poster for X-Men: Apocalypse reveals our first look at the big villain of the film, En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse. Based off of the poster alone – which only gives us a look at his head – the live-action Apocalypse seems to look fairly similar to his comic book counterpart, who is usually depicted as a hulking figure who towers over the X-Men. Also in the poster is the Xavier School, which is burning and in shambles – certainly not a good sign for the X-Men.
Oscar Isaac, who will play En Sabah Nur in Apocalypse, previously discussed how they’re bringing Apocalypse to life in the film. According to Isaac, it will be a mix of “of practical and digital” effects, while also using “some robotic technology.” Hopefully, if footage from Apocalypse is indeed shown at Comic-Con today, we will finally get our first look at Isaac’s Apocalypse in action.
Apocalypse made his debut in the post credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past, in which a young En Sabah Nur is in Egypt – shown to have grey skin, blue lips, with red eyes – and an immense amount of power. Oscar Isaac previously teased Apocalypse’s powers in the film, as follows:
“He has total control over the molecules of his body, enabling him to alter his form as it suits him, such as allowing his body to become extremely malleable and flexible or change its size, enhance his physical abilities, transform his limbs into weapons, wings, or jets, regenerate from fatal injuries, adapt his body to apparently any disease or hostile environment, and give himself virtually any physical superhuman power.”
With abilities like that, En Sabah Nur is looking to be the X-Men’s most formidable opponent yet. The success of Apocalypse is going to weigh heavily on its villain, and things seem to be lining up for En Sabah Nur to be one of the better antagonists to be in an X-Men movie yet. Of course, with his nearly unstoppable powers, the mutants are going to have a lot to go up against come 2016. Though, even Apocalypse has his breaking point…
Fantastic Four opens August 7th, 2015, Deadpool on February 12th, 2016, X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27th, 2016, Gambit on October 7th, 2016, Wolverine 3 (not the official title) on March 3rd, 2017, Fantastic Four 2 on June 9th, 2017, and some as-yet unspecified X-Men film on July 13th, 2018.
