The X-Men have been around since the early ’60s, when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby first created one of Marvel’s most beloved and successful properties to date. Some of the comic book’s many mutants characters have become more popular than others over the past fifty plus years, while appearing in many different forms in games, merchandise, movies and TV.
At this point, you almost can’t have the X-Men without Professor X, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Nightcrawler, Jubilee and Kitty Pryde, just to name a few. All of these characters were a big part of director Bryan Singer’s original movie trilogy between 2000 and 2006, and now most of them will be returning as the franchise comes full circle in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
As the sequel to 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse will see the return of lead stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence and Lucas Till, but there will also be a few new faces joining the cast.
It’s only been a few months since Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner won the roles of young Cyclops and Jean Grey, but now we have your first look at the two actors in costume as X-Men: Apocalypse began filming today. Sheridan, Turner and more recent cast members Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Lana Condor (Jubilee) were on set at a mall in Montreal, which was dressed up to look like the year 1983.
See the first images below:
The first thing you might notice is Turner’s bright red hair as Jean Grey. It’s not clear if she recently had it dyed or if it’s a wig, but it’s definitely a lot brighter than her usual color on Game of Thrones or even Famke Janssen’s hair color in the original trilogy. You also can’t miss Candor’s bright yellow jacket and pink shades as Jubilee. The outfit is iconic for the character, and it really helps Candor to look the part.
Also in the pictures are Sheridan as Cyclops and Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. Sheridan is wearing Cyclop’s traditional ruby-red glasses, while Nightcrawler definitely stands out with his blue skin and red jacket reminiscent of the one Michael Jackson wore in his music video for Thriller.
It looks like a good start for the movie. But what do you think, Screen Rant readers? Are you excited to see the original team back in action for X-Men: Apocalypse? Let us know in the comments.
X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters May 27th, 2016.
