After several X-Men movies that mostly featured modernized, understated costumes for the mutants, the makers of X-Men: Apocalypse decided to redesign the heroes' appearance with outfits that more closely resembled the look in the original comics. Though the new costumes still were not as vibrant as the classic comics that inspired them, there's enough detail in each hero's look to qualify as a fitting homage.

One of the mutants who spent most of Apocalypse waiting to complete his classic look is Scott Summers, aka Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), who doesn't don the original character's trademark visor until near the end of the movie. A new deleted scene, however, reveals how Summers got the visor -- and that he could have gotten it before the movie's final battle.

Yahoo! exclusively released the scene on Monday, just one day before its official release on Blu-ray. It shows Dr. Hank McCoy, aka Beast (Nicholas Hoult) gifting him the new metallic visor, designed by the genius mutant scientist for Summers to better control his optic blasts. The visor, however, is clearly not as fashionable as his preferred sunglasses, but as Beast explains, "I went for functionality over form."

Beast also explains the controls built into the visors so Summers can "control the intensity" of the beams that blast from his eyes, which are much more unwieldy with his sunglasses. Summers gives the visor a quick test blast (featuring some unpolished CGI) and appears to take a liking to the new visor, before dropping an on-the-nose reference to his eventual moniker: "I just hope the other kids don't start calling me Cyclops."

The deleted scene is certainly amusing enough, even though it ultimately had to be cut as Summers didn't wear it in the movie's climactic scenes. McCoy's relationship with Summers as he trains him to harness his powerful optic blasts was key to the development of both characters and the deleted scene, had it been fit into the final movie, would have added to Sheridan's compelling performance and certainly enhanced the character's comic-inspired look along with the rest of the heroes.

Summers' visor was not included in the movie until the end, which leaves open many possibilities for how he will utilize it in the next X-Men movie.  Cyclops' visor wasn't necessary to defeat Apocalypse but would have been a welcome addition to the battle. Fans will have to settle for the clip as another deleted scene accompanying the movie's Blu-ray release and hope that Summers puts his visor to good use in future sequels.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be released on Blu-ray on October 4.
