I wanted to post a quick note that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) voted to end the strike today (February 12, 2008). I’ll have more coverage in the morning. Until then, I want to commend both sides for coming together and getting a deal worked out.
Morning Update: So everyone seems to be happy, with many saying Bob Iger of Disney and Peter Chernin of Fox were instrumental in getting the deal made, along with the heads of the WGA. Looks like everyone’s happy and back to work.
Now, what about the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) contract, which is up in late June 2008? I don’t think we need to worry–since the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and now the WGA have good, solid contracts in place, I think SAG will come together with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) and get a deal together.
Besides, after this 3+ month strike, I think everyone just wants to get back to work. Plus, I believe a public backlash would be crippling to the actors. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, actors want to get to work on a deal now.
Let’s see some new, non-reality TV shows and some quality movies!

Great news!
Any ideas what films will be the first to get back on track?
I read that the SAG contract expires in June. Hopefully they can renegotiate that without a strike.

Great news. I read about Michael Eisner’s predictions a few days ago and hoped they’d come true, to the satisfaction of all parties.
I’m not an “inside” guy, but I think SAG would be giving themselves a black eye publicity-wise if they were to go on strike after this prolonged affair.

I’m still ticked off that “24″ got trashed this season because of this strike. Plus “Chuck” was stopped way too short. I just hope that the SAG doesn’t get any ideas and strike. It’s bad enough that pro athletes are making me want to swear off sports, but I don’t want to stop enjoying TV an movie because of greedy actors.

The tv shows are slowly comming back but since the tv season is all out of wack they have more time to rebuild. We prob won’t see new tv shows (except late night tv) until late in the year.

Hey Brian I’m fairly certain that SAG won’t strike. These 2 deals the DGA and the WGA just completed pave the way for a solution to the SAG contract.
And Vic is right when he says that the public wouldn’t like that one bit.
The actors allready have it pretty good.

Yea Andy I’m really bummed about 24. But good news they have alot of breathing room now to make this next season real good. Until then at least we have the dvds!!
