spider man 4 5 Writer Hired For Spider Man 5 & 6

According to Variety, James Vanderbilt has been picked up by Sony Pictures Entertainment to pen the scripts to another two Spider-Man films.

What’s interesting about this is that Vanderbilt had initially written the first script for Spider-Man 4, a script that director Sam Raimi wasn’t fully in support of. Raimi brought in other writers to do several re-writes but executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios actually liked Vanderbilt’s ideas.

That’s a tad worrisome seeing how Raimi was involved with the mess that was Spider-Man 3 and Marvel Studios has been dead-on with their first two films; Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

A big issue here is that there’s no confirmation on whether or not any of the key players will return for another two installments. Raimi was doubtful of doing a fourth but he eventually came back aboard, as did its star Tobey Maguire with the help of an insanely big contract.

Raimi will be a very busy man after Spider-Man 4 with a ton of projects in development and his position in kickstarting another massive franchise, World of Warcraft, so it’s possible he may not be around to film back-to-back large-scale superhero films. Either way, Spider-Man is the headline franchise for Sony Pictures and their biggest money-maker. They want to be ready to continue the franchise and not have to wait many years in-between future installments.

Apparently, if Raimi and his cast doesn’t return for the 5th and 6th interconnected Spidey adventures, Vanderbilt’s script would act as a franchise re-boot.

I’m actually fine with that so long as we don’t get a complete re-hash of the origins story. They nailed that down well in the first Spider-Man film and I want to see new villains that haven’t been touched on in the franchise yet. They could even re-cast the lead with a new director and just continue if they wanted to – It almost happened with Jake Gyllenhaal back with the first sequel.

Spider-Man 4 is a real test for Sam Raimi as he’s in full control of it, unlike the situation with the last one. We’ve already seen some of that control with the re-writes of the script so I’m curious how good the next installment will be. If it’s not, I’m all for a different direction with 5 & 6.

What do you think of this news and what storylines and villains could be included with Spider-Man 5 & 6?

Spider-Man 4 is set to begin production early next year for a May 6, 2011 opening.

  1. doesn`t anybody agree with John?

  2. And Spiderman 5 and 6? ARE YOU SLOGGING ME??? If they do more than 4 of these films i`m going straight under the sag of their high railings, come on, the third movie was such a piece of ****, doing more than 4 Spidermans will only make this franchise worse, and what the hell was that **** moment in sm3 where Peter was straying down the street thinking he`s so cool with his black suit, that just didn`t didn`t maKE sense, I SWEAR, I MIGHT SUE THEM FOR THAT ONE CRAPPY MOMENT IN SM3 MAKING THE MOVIE LOOKING LIKE SIDEPLACE OF NIGRO, THAT WAS JUST RIDICULOUS!!! And wat is this “Venom spinoff” idea, that doesn`t sound like a good idea at all, COME ON, IF THEY DO A VENOM FILM, I`M GOONA STRIKE THEM WITH A *****!!!

  3. no need for vernacular and poor grammar kids, if you arent happy with the sequels tn dont watch them, pretty simple really.

Carnage NEEDS brutality and violence, following wolverines lack of either I dare say carnage wouldnt work so they should definitely leave him out of the big screen.

  4. If people don`t care that they waited sooner to see Spiderman face a bigger challenge in SM3 than an easier challenge in SM4 then they`re really not helping themselves, sometime they`re going to see it in the future that they feel disappointed they couldn`t care, and somehow even if he has brutality somehow they can still keep the glace at PG-13, it doesn`t have to be THAT violent, it`s ok if they tone him down, but no maybe i`m not sure if i can actually say i have hope for him to be in the movie, they`re already writing the screen, and i think people are way too intimidated by this whole number-of-villain issue, many movies have made it work, if they are set and and/or have a relationship together and if they have enough time too make a balanced organized script and take as long as they need to make the villains work on screen then why are people so worried, i think it was just a bit-too-early for him to face 3 villains in one film, maybe that was the problem. How could it please u guys if spiderman doesn`t face as big of a challenge in this one than the last one, i think we should just face it, there`s no way to consolidate this frachise into shape because there are many mistakes that they made like putting Green Goblin already in the first film and there are other problems such as Tobey Maguire looking alot like Spiderman but being too old to pen the role, i just don`t know what to say or think.

  5. In consideration of every burly point of chemistry people have made over centuries, i am really surprised u just avoided what John K. said, Shamose. It seems people are mocking his opinion by not seeming to understand his statements, he just said something very important and you don`t care at all, wow, i think sometimes people get way off from being trapped in damp air of their mind configuration systemic space.

  6. HOW THE **** COULD NOBODY CARE ABOUT WAT JOHN SAID???? I HONESTLY NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY SO MANY PEOPLE WERE SO MISERABLY LET DOWN BY SM3, YES THERE WERE BAD MOMENTS IN THEIR BUT HOW THE HELL COULD IT HAVE NOT BEEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST 2 MOVIES, YOU PEOPLE WHO TRASH SPIDERMAN 3 SAYING IT SUCKED THAT BAD ACT LIKE COMPLETE CRYBABIES, YOU JUST THINK YOU`RE SO COOL FOR GETTING FED UP OVER THIS ” TOO MANY VILLAIN” THING, HUH, WHAT JOHN K. SAID IS RIGHT, SO IF YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT A CERTAIN NUMBER OF VILLAINS ALL YOU`RE DOING IS DRIPPING THE COST OF THE ELEMENT, STOP NEEDING TO CRITICISE SPIDERMAN 3 OVER IT`S NUMBER OF VILLAIN FACTOR AND ADMIT THAT U AGREE WITH JOHN K., IF YOU DON`T CARE ABOUT HIS FIRST SENTENCE I FEEL REALLY SORRY FOR YOU, SO JUST EXCEPT THE CONCEPT INSTEAD OF BLOWING IT!!!!!!!

  7. I used to be as surprised as you when people were horsing slaps of metal chains on Spiderman 3 but then i saw all it`s problems, let me just say that LAURA ZISKIN AND OTHERS WHO PRODUCED @ DIRECTED THE FIRST SPIDERMAN MOVIE I CAN`T BELIEVE YOU HAD TO ALREADY USE GREEN GOBLIN IN THE FIRST ONE THAT WAS A MISERABLE MISTAKE ALSO PETER LIFTING A WHOLE BUS STOPPING A WHOLE TRAIN WT@ I CAN`T BELIEVE YOU DID ALL THESE THINGS IN THIS FRANCHISE WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THIS WITH SPIDERMAN WHY NOW MY FAVORITE SUPERHERO IS RUINED YOU WENT TOO CRAZY USING ANY VILLAIN YOU WANT YOU SEE THAT`S THE PROBLEM WITH STUDIOS THEY`RE NEVER AWARE TO NOT OVERDO A PLOT/THEME OF A MOVIE OR ELSE IT CAN`T CARRY ON FOR MANY OTHER MOVIES THEY`RE NEVER AWARE NOT TOO USE ANY BADDIE AT THE WRONG TIME I`M SORRY BUT THERE ARE JUST SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS FRANCHISE THAT I JUST CAN`T GET EXCITED ABOUT ANY MORE OF THESE FILMS I`M SORRY BUT I WISH THINGS WERE MORE DISCRETIONIZED AND ORGANIZED WELL IN THIS WORLD OR LOOK AT THAT IT ALL POPS OUT LIKE TARTAR SAUCE I CAN`T BELIEVE THIS FRANCHISED HAD TO GET RUINED I DON`T KNOW WHAT TO THINK I`M SORRY BUT I`M DONE WITH SPIDERMAN MOVIES EVERYTHING I LOVE GETS DEMOLISHED INTO A PILE OF ****!!!!!
