Wrecked trailer title Adrien Brodys New Trailer Is Wrecked

A trailer for Adrien Brody’s new thriller Wrecked has hit and it looks like we’ve got yet another film where a main character confined to a small space. It looks fantastic, but is it time to get used to this storytelling tactic or get rid of it?

The sub-genre has been around for quite some time. Some single setting thrillers have succeeded (Rear Window) and others have missed the mark (Phone Booth). Ryan Reynolds recently starred in the coffin-centric film, Buried. Considering the recent events of the trapped Chilean miners, these films are as relevant as ever.

Wrecked is directed by newcomer Michael Greenspan and lists only four other actors in the cast besides Adrien Brody. While most single-setting thrillers do their best to stay in one place the entire film, it looks like Wrecked will venture off into the woods for at least part of the film and all of the flashbacks.

While details are still scarce, it does seem the movie is only partially set within a wrecked vehicle. Once the plot thickens and boils over, Brody’s character goes on the run as he attempts to retrace his steps.

Watch the trailer below and see if Wrecked is for you.

The suspense of the trailer is palpable. While the film itself may end up more atmospheric and slow-paced, that doesn’t take away from the clever plot details revealed in the trailer.

It would be scary enough to wake up in a ravine with your leg broken and pinned in a wrecked vehicle. But when Brody finds the gun and discovers the dead bodies in the car, pandemonium breaks.

The plot synopsis is lengthy and essentially just rehashes what you saw above, but it should clear up any confusion left over from the vague trailer. There is so much shown in the trailer that it feels like everything is revealed, but nothing quite fits together yet.

A Man (Adrien Brody) awakens in a mangled car-wreck at the bottom of a steep cliff. He’s injured, his legs are trapped, and he has no memory of who he is or how he got there. His only company – a crackling radio broadcast of a violent bank robbery gone wrong and a corpse in the back seat with a wallet identifying him as one of the perpetrators. As the man ventures beyond the wreckage, he must rely on his primal instincts, using anything he can find in the surrounding wilderness to increase his chances of survival. Confronted with overwhelming obstacles, both real and imagined, the Man must discover his identity and face the consequences of what that might be.

The trailer felt like a mix between The Bourne Identity and Michael Scott’s venture to the woods in an episode of The Office. Well, maybe more like the 1997 thriller The Edge meets Cast Away.

It should be fascinating to watch Adrien Brody battle the elements. I’m interested in whether his character has a carnal knowledge of the wilderness at all. The key to the film might be the “imagined” part of the plot. Is he simply hallucinating the events around him or might that cougar be hunting him down?

  1. Looks amazing. I have always liked Adrien Brody’s chops. From the Pianist to Splice. I certainly HOPE this will do well. It looks more dynamic than Buried, which I also want to see. Here’s hoping!

  2. It was like watching myself everyday when I wake up.

  3. I really like adrien brody. The pianist was amazing and I fell in love with him in the darjeeling limited so I’ll probably see this

  4. He might just win another award for this at the Oscars.

  5. I was in Abu Dhabi this past week and caught the 2nd screening I believe at the marina mall. Absolutely amazing! I don’t want to give anything away, I will just say its much more complex than him just being trapped and injured. It’s a very intense, thought provoking movie. Brody is excellent, probly his 2nd or 3rd best performance in my opinion. I hope it gets into theatres here in Canada as it’s one of the movies I’d like to watch a few times to really analyze.
