Coming Soon just passed us a note saying Sam Raimi, who directed all three Spiderman movies, confessed to MTV that Robert Rodat is set to write the forthcoming Warcraft movie. Having written Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot, Rodat is no stranger to scripts that are heavy on combat.
Raimi had this to say to MTV:
“We want to be really faithful to the game…We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a ‘World of WarCraft’ adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.“
And some of this!
“We would choose… something that encompasses lands and characters and storylines, and we would be true to it. But our story may or may not be about one of those central characters.“

Warcraft, for those who’ve missed the many, many, commercials, is a franchise of video games, novels and other media built around the original video game, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. World of Warcraft, a game in the franchise, has had over 11 million subscribers and is the world’s most popular MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). “It’s an MMORPG, R-t#@d!” I know, I know. It's an MMORPG...
Rodat’s script for Private Ryan won him an Academy Award Nomination, and if any of the writing skill displayed in that shows up in the Warcraft flick, the movie could very well be a lot better than you’d expect. I for one thought the Spiderman movies had a wonderful sense of humor to balance the action (and I think Iron Man and Star Trek jumped on that train after seeing it’s success) and would love to see Raimi bring the same sensibility to Warcraft.
Warren Buffet said, “When a management with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for bad economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact.“ You think this could be applied to Academy-Award-Nominated writers/talented directors and movies based on video games?
No word on when a Warcraft movie would be swinging like a Lv. 5 Warrior’s studded mace into theaters.

I’d like a scene where the main character is killed and the enemy promptly tea bags him while shouting NOOB.
That would pretty much embody the tone of the game to me.
That would be funny, English, but you know damn well they won’t do anything like that. They’ll need to make it viable for Hollywood and the Big screen.

Another raimi directed movie? Where does he find the time? I guess this is after spidey 4.
And if this guy did saving private Ryan than it’s a great choice IMO.
I just want to see one person (preferably female) running around town completely in their underwear with a huge ass sword on their back yelling at everyone that they are available for lvl 70 enchantments.

good start except for the Raimi part.
It excites me that Raimi and Rodat will work together for this film, this makes me want to see the movie now
