While DC fans eagerly await the arrival of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice next spring, another entry in the DC Extended Universe is currently in the making. Following her debut in Batman V Superman, Gal Gadot is set to lead her own superhero movie in Wonder Woman, which has just begun production in the U.K. We know from a photo of cast members Chris Pine and Saïd Taghmaoui that the film will be set at least partially in the past and plot rumors point to it taking place in multiple time periods including a modern day setting.

Although she is in the USA when the clash between Batman and Superman takes place, Wonder Woman is a warrior princess who hails from the hidden island of Themyscira. Pine will play love interest Steve Trevor, who in the comic books is a military intelligence officer that meets Diana when he is stranded on Themyscira. Since we've already seen Pine in costume, it seems only fair that we get to see Wonder Woman as well.

To announce the start of a production that has been "almost 75 years in the making," Gadot shared an image of herself as Wonder Woman on Twitter, showing the warrior and leader dressed in a dark robe or shawl that doesn't quite conceal the armor she's wearing underneath. Her tiara is visible, as are her arm bracers and hand wraps. This may be a disguise that Wonder Woman wears when visiting another country in the historical setting, since her usual outfit tends to attract attention.

Of course, we've seen Wonder Woman go incognito before in the trailer for Batman V Superman, where she blends into society by wearing ordinary (through very elegant) clothes as her alter ego Diana Prince. We also saw Wonder Woman in action in the same trailer, wielding a sword and shield with her Lasso of Truth held at her side. However, this is our first look at the character in her own movie. Check it out below.

That's not the only news accompanying the start of production. Warner Bros. also sent out a press release that announces several new cast members: Robin Wright (House of Cards), David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans), Ewan Bremner (Snowpiercer), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead). The film is being directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster) from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs (Holy Rollers).

Though the newly announced cast members aren't necessarily huge A-listers, there's a lot of talent named in that press release. Wright in particularly has enjoyed a lot of recent success, including a Golden Globe award for her role in House of Cards and critical acclaim for her lead role in Ari Folman's heady sci-fi drama The Congress. Warner Bros. did not mention which characters these actors would be playing, but with filming underway and set photos bound to leak, it's safe to say that we'll start hearing rumors and speculation before long.
