Following the release of Man of Steel in 2013, it was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. revealed their plans for a shared DC Comics universe. First, the Man of Steel followup Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was announced, then the studio detailed their plans for upcoming films through 2020. Starting in 2016, DC and Warner Bros. will roll out two movies a year for the next four years; Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman are scheduled to debut after Batman V Superman arrives in theaters next year.

Suicide Squad is expected to go into production soon with most of its principal cast confirmed and director David Ayer (Fury) already offering fans teases from the set. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, has a confirmed director and star, but little else is known about the film. However, with the feature reportedly beginning production later this year, we may soon learn more about Wonder Woman.

Deadline is reporting Wonder Woman will begin filming this fall. Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince after first appearing in Batman V Superman. The filming schedule was mentioned in regard to Gadot potentially joining the cast of Keeping Up With The Joneses from Fox 2000.

Behind the scenes of Wonder Woman, Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones) is set to direct. Additionally, Warner Bros. was reportedly in negotiations with David Fuchs (Pan) to pen the script, though a later rumor claimed multiple screenwriters had been tapped for the same job.

If this schedule is correct, then updates on Wonder Woman will become available in the coming months. Despite the secrecy surrounding many comic book movies, aspects of Wonder Woman, such as the official screenwriter, the story, the cast, and characters will likely be announced before filming begins.

Although Warner Bros. has not officially confirmed that Wonder Woman will in fact begin production later this year, the timeline makes sense. Wonder Woman is set for a summer 2017 release and will need time to film as well as enough time for post-production. Additionally, the Zack Snyder-directed Batman V Superman had a similar production schedule: filming began in February 2014 for the movie’s 2016 release.

Whether or not Wonder Woman begins filming later this year or in 2016, the film will need to start coming together soon in order to be ready for when production does start. Which means we'll probably know more about the Wonder Woman film soon.

Wonder Woman hits theaters June 23rd, 2017.
