Wonder Woman is just over a month away from hitting our screens, and anticipation is high for this next installment in the DCEU. The first solo movie for the current cinematic universe since 2013’s Man of Steel, Wonder Woman is an origin story for the character set during World War I, starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as her love interest Steve Trevor.
The film is certainly generating hype, not least because it is the first female-fronted superhero film in the current renaissance, but also because it is the first time that Wonder Woman will make it to the big screen. However, some are wondering if the film will face the same issues as previous DCEU offerings, which have been incredibly divisive and failed to wow critics. Now, the marketing team have launched a new promotional event to continue to build hype ahead of its June release — #WonderWednesdays.
The event was announced today in a special video released on the official Wonder Woman Twitter account, featuring stars Gadot and Pine. The 40-second long video is captioned ‘.@GalGadot & Chris Pine invite you to join us for #WonderWednesdays! #WonderWoman’ and is the first of a series of videos that will be released on the site every Wednesday. Gadot and Pine promise “fresh content, news and promotions” coming for the next seven Wednesdays.
“Every week there we’re bringing you something new, from contests to behind the scenes photos, maybe even never-before-seen clips. It’s our way of saying thank you to you, our fans.”
The twitter account will (presumably) continue to post and re-post news, events, images and fan art on other days of the week as well, with this new #WonderWednesdays as an additional promotional event. It looks like the Wednesday content will come to fans in the form of more videos hosted by Gadot and Pine, too, which is a new way for the Twitter account to share new promos and clips.
This is fantastic news for fans of the characters, and promises at least a few more clips and images that haven’t yet seen the light of day. This could also mean a big reveal or two is made via the #WonderWednesdays event, although nothing specific has been promised. The video does not give away too much, about the length of future videos or how much will be new footage and how much will be competitions or other content, nor does it tell fans what time the new content will appear each week. However, it looks like this is going to be a great new way for the film to make the most of social media ahead of the film’s opening weekend.
