Wonder Woman Batman V Superman Costume First Official Look at Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman

The arrival of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may have been brief, but it dropped enough bombs to keep fans happy. After debuting the first footage of Batman and Superman in the film, the audience was given its first look at the costume design for Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. It won’t be too much of a surprise for comic book fans, but to say it’s been a long-awaited reveal would be an understatement.

All things considered, the costume is essentially what has been expected from the beginning. Staying true to the ‘Amazonian warrior’ roots of the character, the costume is a blend of battle armor and classical Greek style. The ‘W’-shaped metal eagle is alive and well atop a corset of leather and metal, with the other key features of the costume that have stayed consistent in nearly every incarnation.

We’ll go into detail about the specifics, but first, take a look at the first official, high-res photo below:

For an even larger version of the photo, head here.

First things first: the aspects of the character’s design which may have straddled the line between believable and camp have turned out surprisingly well. The battle-tiara worn by Wonder Woman since the very beginning remains, as do her bullet-deflecting bracers and the braided lasso on her hip (although we wouldn’t hold our breath that it will possess the same magical abilities as seen in the comics).

Of course, the costume is still sure to have its critics; skirt length is clearly not a concern for Diana when standing in the middle of a destroyed urban center (despite the fact that she’s still showing less than a female Transformers star), and the effectiveness of her footwear – which, let’s get straight, are wedges, not heels - in combat is questionable. Yet Snyder has also decided to tone down the costume much like he did with Man of Steel, applying a bronze glaze to the entire wardrobe instead of the bright primary colors of the comic book version.

Just to show that the muted colors may be more a product of this stylized image than the costume itself, we’ve re-saturated the photo to show that the red, blue, and gold colors are still very much at work in the design. See what you think:

Add in the leather straps which presumably hold the Amazonian princess’ shield on her back, and the costume could best be described as grounded for Warner Bros.’ growing DC movie universe, but still a faithful recreation of the source material (as is the case with Ben Affleck’s Batsuit). The reveal won’t quiet all the concerns over Wonder Woman’s arrival to the big screen, but it certainly shows she’s being given the same level of treatment as DC’s other two heavyweights.

What do you think of the final design? Does it seem like the perfect way of bringing Wonder Woman into the world established by Man of Steel, or were you hoping for a difference direction? Sound off in the comments.

  1. I’m a fan of DC, I truly am, but this movie is going to be more forced than black people on the Amistad.

    • LMAO

    • Wow. Tasteless.

    • Yeah, slavery was pretty tasteless. I agree wholeheartedly. The whole forced servitude thing is basically a crime against humanity. I don’t think Batman (five) Superman will be that bad, just packed full of bodies.

  2. Probably in a minority or the only one, but I like the muted (monochrome, minimal) tone DCCU is going for.

    • You aren’t alone.

  3. if the same pic of WW was posted online and the title was Xena warrior princess coming in 2016, no one would think this is wonder woman at all. its great to finally get WW on the big screen but im not going to pretend its a great WW outfit because its not.

  4. Anyway, this film is almost two years away and anything can (hopefully) be changed; the last thing I need is for my e-mail Inbox to get flooded with a gazillion notifications a day like the past two days so I’m unsubscribing to notifications. You guys can argue all you want. As far as I’m concerned, Wonder Woman of animation and TV and comics in the 1970′s and 80′s and so many of the graphic depictions I still see today are close enough to at least be recognizable. This one is not. They might as well maker her blonde or a redhead, or just have a Xena substitute. There are so many modern illustrations of her I would have been happy with. Of course I’d expect it to be updated and improved for the big screen and modern times but the same way Superman or Batman was, not like this Xena copy.

Oh well, it’s a good thing I will always have my memories, the DVD collection and so many good artist renditions to look at. If Marston was alive today they may have gotten it right. In my opinion it’s an insult to give us this after decades of waiting. There are plenty of people who know what I mean and agree and so many ways they could have made her acceptable and recognizable. They might as well just make it a different character for this film all together. As was the case with the proposed 2011 TV series, Lynda Carter still has nothing to worry about!

Have fun fighting over this disappointing attempt. And before I go, here’s to the new Xena in the 2016 movie! :D

    • I think it looks like a great more Greek Amazon version of the current New 52 costume.

  5. Gina Carano would’ve been perfect and worth it. The Amazon Woman is that of a rough, tough, and beautiful.

    • +1
Also she won’t need a stunt double. She does her own stunts.

      • Gadot did her own stunts and can at least act and fight. Gena Cerrano is short and doesn’t remotely look like wonder woman and is a horrible actress

        • +1

Gadot is more than capable of doing her own stunts. Jury is still out on the acting but we shall find out soon enough. The jury is NOT still out on Carano however. Her acting is average on her BEST day. And yeah she’s bad ass but she doesn’t possess the necessary grace and warmth to portray Princess Diana. WW is more than just a badass. You need both ends of the spectrum. Those constantly bringing up Gina only indicates to me an obvious lack of understanding of the character. Otherwise, you’d know that Gina would, in fact, NOT be perfect for WW.

          • Sorry you know nothing of Gina. Take a look at some of her F&F premiere interviews and pictures.

You will see she has style and grace with the ability snap your neck if need be.

Gadot while ‘active’ and in shape does not appear able to snap anything but maybe a celery stick.

And before you jump in about her being a trained Military member blah blah blah… she was a fitness instructor for the military. She was not combat.

Think of the mail clerk. Yeah they have an important job and yeah they are trained in certain military fighting however they are not a ‘combat’ MOS. (no offense to mail clerks or to demean the support they provide to the service)

I think their acting ability is on par with each other. What Gina has that Gal lacks is the look. The ‘look’ can be faked only so much. Acting can be improved upon.

            • I’ve seen PLENTY of Gina. Acting and in interviews. If you say so bud lol. I don’t need to bring up any military experience in regards to Gal because it’s a moot point. She is a physically acceptable representation of Diana given WW’s power stems from, um you know magic? There are PLENTY of iterations of WW represented fit and slight of frame, so you can miss me with that nonsense. You don’t always get what YOU want. You wanted a bigger more athletic looking WW. Well that’s not what you got. Too bad. Deal. Gadot looks like WW. She has the warmth and grace to pull her off. Snyder, if nothing else, we’ll make sure she is fierce. We’ll find out soon enough if she has the acting chops.

    • You are a complete idiot. So sick of everybody thinking that they can make better casting decisions than everybody else. I am happy with Gal Gadot, and a trust Snyder. He hasn’t failed me yet.

Gina Carano is an absolutely atrocious actress. Sure she is good in a fight, but she has zero acting abilities. Just watch her try and act in Haywire or Fast 6.

    • TERRIBLE ACTRESS.

  6. I don’t like the color scheme at all.

I feel the bronze wash does exactly what users SWLinPHXL and Jim said: Makes her look like a cheap Xena: Warrior Princess knock-off, and robs her of the unique look that the red, white and blue brought to Wonder Woman’s outfit.

Now it’s just “standard battle warrior woman” suit, and that’s just disappointing to me.

  7. Everyone stop riding on Xena. You dumbasses do know that both these women’s costume designs are based on Romanian armour for females. It’s really stupid to say the one ripped off the other because ultimately, they both based their design on one concept.

You’re all haters & you know it. Never have I heard of Thor’s bright red cape being a rip off of Superman’s. This is a really dumb argument. Kinda reminds me of the same people who thought Batfleck was fat when he clearely isn’t.

    • She is royalty and should be dripped in gold. That is for her head band lasso and bracelets, which were all given to her by Zeus right, And made of gold. And if they did base their design of the same concept they sure didn’t know that when they show her in the comics she look nothing like the worrier princess

      • You are correct…she has NEVER been portrayed as a “worrier princess”. Diana does not generally worry. She HAS, however, been shown to be a confident, powerful WARRIOR princess…just like in this Gal Gadot reveal.

        ;)

    • “You dumbasses do know that both these women’s costume designs are based on Romanian armour for females.”

      That’s funny……

  8. I don’t understand the complaint on the fact that she is wearing wedges (or high heels as some say) as wonder woman was wearing high heels if you watch the tv version or if you read the comics (not all of them, but it is quite normal to see her wearing high heels in comics)

The one thing that I notice is the lack of red and blue in her costume, but it may have to do with the way Snyder presented the picture.

It is actually one of the better looking costumes for a comic character if I may say so

    • I think Wonder Woman wearing heels makes a lot of sense. Seriously, if I could fly, I would wear the most pretty and uncomfortable shoes ever. Btw, I am sure the lack of blue and red is due to the treatment of the photo, think her costume looks pretty cool (and less sexualized).

      • The high heels are ridiculous and embarrassing. Heels make the wearer look clumsy.

    • But doesn’t it make sense if Diana has never visited Man’s World let alone America for that matter, not to include her traditional colors? Unless they do the whole Diana Trevor storyline and the pictures colors have been darkened a wee bit, which I saw a screen ranter post an altered version which I think looks great as well. Plus Lady Sif wore wedges I think and no one said anything.

  9. Why is it superman’s costume is exactly like the comics, Batmans costume is exactly like the comics , yet Wonder Woman has to cover up and not wear color?

    • it’s been said a million times that there is a bronze filter on the entire picture her outfit is red blue and gold it is the Wonder Woman costume from the comics

      • t becomes increasingly clear that many have never seen wonder woman outside of Lynda Carter’s 1970′s tv show. Wonder Woman has been around since 1942 and is still a power house and relevant character, who is drawn slim and stand on par with superman
She is an amazonian warrior fromgreek mythology/classical antiquity with DC twist…THIS PICTURE ABOVE LOOKS PERFECT unless you are an idiot who wants her to spin. I even hear complaints about the sword. cmon

      • its not the WW from the comics its more Xena or 300, but not WW. playing with the colors on your ppersonal computer does not fix the poor color choices

        • you apparently didnt even look at the picture dumbass. you only show your ignorance to this character and general lack of intelligence

    • None of them are excactly like the comics.

In Nolan’s trilogy Batman is wearing militarized body armor. In Joel Schumacher’s movies he’s got nipples. If you want to get all technical about it, Adam West had the most accurate costume, but that doesn’t automatically make it the best for a live action adaptation.

It seems that Snyder is taking a lot of inspiration from the character’s origin. Superman is from a highly advanced alien world and the design of his clothes has been updated to give off a futuristic and culturally alien-esque vibe.

Princess Diana is a warrior princess of the Amazons (based on greek mythology) so they’ve updated her clothes to fit that sort or origin. The bikini bottom and corset from the comic books just wouldn’t cut it.

    • Not only is this NOT true, you can’t even define “exactly like the comics” because there have been a countless number of iterations to each.

    • GO READ… it’s been said over and over….THE ENTIRE IMAGE HAS A BRONZE FILTER OVER IT….LOOK CLOSELY THE OUTFIT IS BLUE RED AND GOLD AND LOOKS LIKE THE COMICS.THIS IS HER ORIGIN…SHE DOESNT START WEARING HER ADOPTIVE HOME’S STARS AND STRIPES UNTIL SHE HAS WON HER PLACE AS EMISSARY TO THE OUTSIDE….PLEASE STOP BEING IGNORANT AND MAKING COMMENTS PEOPLE JUST GOOGLE AND YOU CAN SEE THIS WOMAN AND THIS OUTFIT ARE WONDER WOMAN FROM THE COMICS AND NOT LYNDA F*ING CARTER JUST GOOGLE AND YOU WILL SEE WONDER WOMAN HAS OFTEN LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE THIS. SWORD AND SKIRT AND ALL

  10. No matter which direction WB takes the story line of Wonder Woman, the Actress is too thin, the costume is not right and they are filling false hopes already with this look of Wonder Woman fast and furiously.

    • Have you ever even read a wonder woman comic book? This looks exactly like her and her people.t becomes increasingly clear that many have never seen wonder woman outside of Lynda Carter’s 1970′s tv show. Wonder Woman has been around since 1942 and is still a power house and relevant character, who is drawn slim and stand on par with superman
She is an amazonian warrior greek mythology/classical antiquity with DC twist…THIS PICTURE ABOVE LOOKS PERFECT unless you are an idiot who wants her to spin. My Wonder Woman dont do that…..unless it’s for pleasure. I even hear complaints about the sword. cmon

      • if she is in mans world she has already won the ambassador to the U.S. and the world. she has already adopted the host counties colors or she would still be on the island. its all about some executives saying her look wont work just like they said spider mans look wont work for decade.then someone had the guts to use it and 4 billion dollars later it seem like a no-brainer.

  11. I reckon you all people need to get a life, just get on with it.

    • The great Micheal B. Jordan once said, “you’re still going to go see the movie”

  12. This movie is going to be a mess. Too many iconic characters, (Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Lex Luthor) in a movie still called Batman five Superman. I’m betting the Jem & a The Holograms movie I will be a stronger film.

    • So just as many as the Avengers then right? And while yes most of those characters got solo introductions in other movies you could still say it was crowded. Superman already had his intro, Bats doesn’t need one, WW will mostly be playing Diana Prince until the end (so I hear) and even then its only a medium sized role. Aquaman as well as Cyborg will probably only be getting cameos. With Lex also getting a medium to large sized role.

      • You’re not listening. I said ICONIC CHARACTERS. Marvel put together B-listers for a A-list movie. DC is doing it the other way around. Stop fan-boying and listen. Jem & The Holograms will put this abortion of a movie to shame, trust me.

        • I’ll have to disagree.

Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk are not B-listers.

I am not saying they’re as big as Superman and Batman, but they are among the biggest heroes of Marvel, and more importantly, they are original members of The Avengers.

Justice League is DC’s own team of superheroes. To put them together in a movie is not weird or wrong. And those A-listers are the founding members.

These movies are simply becoming more like comic books, so instead of making solo movies after solo movies, they’re finally putting them together. Makes perfect sense.

Why are you so angry, Laura?

          • Yes Laura, why are you so angry? Shoveler, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor are kind of B-listers when it comes to cinematic universes my friend. Spiderman and Hulk are A-listers because everybody around the world knew about them before movies about The Hulk and Spiderman were made.Trust me, I traveled the world and used to live in Europe before I came to the U.S and I can tell you that even in the most remote parts of Europe or Africa , we in Europe and they in Africa knew who spiderman was before of the comics and who Hulk was because of Lou Ferrigno’s show (Sorry Lou if I butchered your name). However we did not bother reading or buying comics about Captain america, Iron Man or even Thor. You even have to admit, did you really read comics about Iron Man or Thor or even Captain America? Or did you just enjoy the movies like the rest of us who were crazy about spiderman because let us be honest he is the hottest Marvel commodity, or Hulk well because he is green and incredible. Heck, even the X-MEN are more popular than Iron man, Thor and Captain America combined AROUND THE WORLD. And again Laura, why so angry (Joker’s tone).

            • My excact words:

“I am not saying they’re as big as Superman and Batman, but they are among the biggest heroes of Marvel, and more importantly, they are original members of The Avengers.”

That means I totally and utterly acknowledge that Superman and Batman are bigger than them.

Also, notice how the phrase “among the biggest heroes of Marvel” actually doesn’t place them anywhere near DC (don’t want to go into an argument of Marvel vs. DC) or above Spider-Man and X-Men.

But to me they are still part of Marvel’s A-listers because they’re among the earliest characters and they’ve had their own solo comic books. I wouldn’t draw the line between A-listers and B-listers at them.

It would be dificult to tell you how big they’ve been in my country, I haven’t done any surveys, but I can tell you, that I did read comics about them when I was growing up. I even saw those Captain America tv-movies from 1979. So I certainly did know of these characters long before these modern movies.

Maybe we can only agree to disagree, but to me it’s just wrong to label them B-listers. To me the B-listers would be characters like Punisher, Daredevil and Ghost Rider, which is also kinda reflected in how much Hollywood dared to gamble on those. When they dared to gamble so much more on Iron Man, I doubt they considered him a B-lister.

Anyway, no matter how big or small we think these characters are, I still think it is perfectly possible to put Batman, Superman and the rest in the same movie.

              • I understand your point the shoveler. I understand where you are coming from and based on your explanation, you are right. Cheers

                • Cool. Cheers to you too ;)

                • Thank you. You two are the only decent and reasonable conversation here. and martianmanhunter86 i commend you for hearing a counter argument and not only acknowledging it but for conceding. i mean wow. i am so sickend by most of the activity around here. it brings out the worst in all of us sometimes

  13. I think it looks great! And thanks for saturating the picture because I could definitely live with the monochromatic but I definitely like that there’s a little color in there.

  14. Don’t know why Wonder Woman’s costume, or any superhero’s for that matter, needs to be bright and colourful, this isn’t a cartoon. I bet you guys want Batman to wear the blue and grey like Adam West right?

  15. amazing… so many haters. can you imagine the originam adam west suit? looks lik pajamams. wonder womans onesie with heels? looks like sorority girl on halloween night. So she doesn’t look like she is dressed in an american flag… all sounds a bit ethnocentric and whiney to me. and as far as being too crowded? so by changing the title to Justice League would have made it … UN crowded? and here i was hoping that dwayne johnson would be the new greeen lantern and a good flash would be introduced.
fan boys.. grow up. be greatful we have the technoology to make the movies right finally instead of the lame tv series. have you actually gone back to watch those? even the toby/sam rami spider man movies look made for television compared to the new one. as for me? i can’t wait

  16. Saying that the costume looks terrible just because of the filter they put in the picture is like assuming the entire movie is going to be in black and white after the first picture of batman was released. They’re just pictures, the film version will obviously be brighter and look better.

    • Exactly!

  17. I don’t know. I’m kind of liking the costume, as it’s both faithful to the source and a little more “bad ass” and less “cheese cake” than it usually is. Also, giving Wonder Woman actual weapons (which I’m guessing are magical or something) is better than the not-so-subtle bondage fetishism of the lasso alone.

But seriously. Gal Gadot has the Wonder Woman face, but not the body. If you could take her face and put it on Jessica Biel’s Blade Trinity body, then THAT would be awesome. Someone needs to tell Gal that she’d better start hitting the gym and bulk up. Girl’s about as big around as my wrist.

    • It’s a good thing the knee high boots covers her boney kneecaps. lol

I actually love the costume for some of the reasons you mentioned. It’s badazz and less camp. This will be a success despite the moaning by some critics.

  18. Nope….bad idea
Stick with the comics…she needs that original colors and costume with a reality check……try leather and a metallical suit…..blue gold and red are her true colors with amazing black hair….remember shes a. Princess from royalty…..only the best for the amazonian.

  19. Costume looks like a combination of the wonder woman and xena warrior princess outfits and fyi I’m a huge hardcore fan of wonder woman.,,.

  20. I loved this new costumed at first sight! It works perfectly for the modern world being created around the new DC Universe. Anyone still whinning about the old iconic costume needs to give it a rest. If she would’ve appeared onscreen wearing the costume Lynda Carter wore in the 1970s, she would’ve been laughed at for all 2hrs of the film. This look works for me and anyone with a realistic logical brain.

  21. Now that the look of her costume has been laid to rest, the new worry for me will be how her powers will be potrayed. For some reason, I have a feeling that she won’t have flight abilities, nor will she be as strong as her origin suggests. They will turn her into a highly skilled fighter with battle armor. Mainly because of their inability to explain her mystical origins to a modern aidience. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ll prepare myself for disappointment.

    • Well, a modern audience has already seen plenty of mystical things. Probably more than a 70s audience.

  22. Now that the look of her costume has been laid to rest, the new worry for me will be how her powers will be potrayed. 23. Lol… Whoever thinks a princess should be pretty & glittered in gold is a blind fool. I’ve only ever seen that s*** in eastern & European history. A warrior princess in other foreign cultures can have a scared face & skulls decorating her neck piece. I’m South African, I should know.
LMAO! Some of you have been watching way too much Disney & GoT.

    • “I’m South African, I should know.” Thank you. You just made my summer.

  24. Sorry but she looks like she’ll break if you give her a firm hug. And you can still tell she’s knock-kneed.

    • @Hater

Cool man. Which branch of the military and for what nation have you served with? Just curious.

  25. I don’t think there is any way to have a live action wonder woman and have everyone be happy. There are so many fans that have different interpretations of how she should look. Guess we just need to wait for the film and see what happens.

    • Ur exactly right, everyone should let it ride and enjoy!!

  26. Looks EPIC as far as I’m concerned. Boo all the haters and give the film a frickin chance to be released. I am hopeful that it will be good but I did enjoy Man of Steel unlike the masses it seems. I really hope they get it right and can’t wait :)

  27. i Like it… maybe more color so it wont look like xenas’. She looks good as WW better than what i was expecting for Gadot!

  28. I want to see the red, blue and gold. Otherwise I think the costume looks good.

  29. So Captain America Sequel has Falcon/Black Widow/Nick Fury and Captain America and Agent 13 and The Winter Solider a future good guy and this isnt crowded but the Man Of Steel sequel with the Trinity is too much.Marvel cinematic fan boys and their double standard bias. Also Wonder Woman of the Justice League COSTUME craps all over the Avengers Buffy Willow the teenage Scarlet Witch costume.
