An Amazon posting that has since been removed indicates Wonder Woman will be available on Blu-ray in September. The latest installment in the DC Extended Universe gave the franchise the shot in the arm it needed earlier this summer, when it opened to widespread critical acclaim and broke box office records. Thanks to enthusiastic word-of-mouth and a strong turnout from older and female moviegoers, Wonder Woman held extremely well throughout its theatrical run, ending up as the most successful movie of summer 2017. It's also been a big hit worldwide, recently topping Deadpool's global haul.
After two months of reigning supreme at the box office, Wonder Woman fans are probably wondering when they can bring the adventures of Diana Prince and Steve Trevor home to watch from the comfort of their living rooms. Given the film's summer premiere date, it was presumed the early fall would see the home media release, and now it seems like that will eventually be the case.
According to Batman News, iTunes has Wonder Woman on digital HD for pre-order, saying it will be available on Tuesday, August 29. The outlet also reported the physical Blu-ray disc will hit store shelves a few weeks later on Tuesday, September 19. That date has been removed from the original Amazon listing, but it's safe to assume the Wonder Woman Blu-ray will come out around that time. Frequently, studios release their titles on digital shortly before the disc, so it wouldn't be surprising if Warner Bros. implemented that strategy.
Today, it was revealed Wonder Woman's theatrical success helped boost Time Warner's quarterly earnings, and it's expected the impending home media release will have a similar impact. The film is a clear audience favorite, becoming a phenomenon that was more than 75 years in the making. Whether it's through iTunes or a retailer exclusive packaging (such as a Steelbook), there should be great interest to own a copy of Wonder Woman. Many will be curious to see what special features are included, hoping for behind-the-scenes featurettes that detail aspects of the movie like casting and action. A comprehensive look at the famous No Man's Land sequence would be exciting.
Hopefully, this is a sign that WB is close to making an official announcement regarding the Wonder Woman Blu-ray details.
