After Wonder Woman 1984, director Patty  Jenkins reveals that she already has ideas for a third film. Directing 2017's hit Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, the filmmaker returns for its sequel which is slated to come out this October after several delays for various reasons including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Jenkins and Gadot will also reunite with Chris Pine, who will reprise his role as Steve Trevor in the movie despite the character's death in the original film. Building on what's been established in her origins story, the Themysciran Princess is set to face-off against a brand new threat in Kristen Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah. Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal another villain in Maxwell Lord - a powerful businessman in the comics.

Plot specifics for Wonder Woman 1984 are still scant at the moment, but the movie is confirmed to be another period piece. Set in the 1980s, the narrative will find Diana at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Marketing for the blockbuster reveals a budding friendship with Minerva before the inevitable fallout results in them becoming foes. Other than that. Warner Bros is being careful about spoilers although a junior novelization may have given the public pertinent narrative information. That said, while the sequel isn't even out yet, Jenkins is already contemplating what lies ahead for the heroine in the inevitable third film.

The filmmaker spoke with Screen Rant during a set visit where she revealed that she already has ideas for a third film. In the interview, Jenkins recalled that she knew what she wanted for a sequel that halfway through the first film. Gadot shared the sentiments, also reminiscing about thinking of what they're going to do for Wonder Woman 1984, and now, a similar thing is happening for a potential Wonder Woman 3.

You said that you came up with the idea for this movie halfway through filming the first one. As deep into production as you are now, have you thought of anything for another step in the franchise? Do you have a trilogy?

Patty Jenkins: Sadly, yes. Because I'm like, ‘Guys, I'm retiring after this movie.' So--goddamn it. Every time I think, yeah. I even think where the second movie came from was me as a fan of her, and as a fan of superhero films, craving what I haven't gotten Which is: I wanted to see Wonder Woman out in the f***ing world, not finding herself. Like, f***ing Wonder Woman! So there is one more thing I'm craving, which is true to her theme, which is true to everything that she stands for, that I'm like, 'Ooh.' There's one more chapter of Wonder Woman that we don't quite get. It doesn't quite make sense for this movie. It didn't for the last, either.

Gal Gadot: You know it's funny, we shot Wonder Woman and we were already fantasizing on the next one. The three of us work really well together and truly love each other. And even on this one, we're already talking about our next journey together, and what's the next movie we're going to do together just because we really, we have great chemistry and we enjoy working together.

No word from Warner Bros. yet regarding Wonder Woman 3, but it's safe to say that it's in their DCEU slate. The first film is widely regarded as their best project thus far and anticipation for Wonder Woman 1984 is currently through the roof. Unlike other movies, both installments were not plagued with any sort of controversy, and with the creative team from the original installment coming back for its follow-up, there's a higher chance that it will at least be at par with its predecessor. Given all that, it makes sense that Jenkins is already plotting what's going to be next for the Amazonian Goddess.

Wonder Woman 3 will reportedly bring Diana to the present time, a change-of-pace after the her first two solo movies were period pieces. Jenkins has yet to have a crack on the character in the contemporary time setting since both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League were directed by different directors. Aside from the time period, it's also interesting to know they planted seeds in Wonder Woman 1984 that will eventually play a big part in Wonder Woman 3. Beyond the potential solo trilogy for the Amazonian princess, fans shouldn't look forward to the director being involved since Jenkins is more likely walking away from the film series after Gadot's third standalone adventure.
