The Woman in Black trailer with Daniel Radcliffe The Woman in Black Teaser Is Short But Chilling

Now that Daniel Radcliffe is all grown up and will see his last Harry Potter film hit theaters this summer, what will the fellow be doing next? It seems the answer is leaving the magical castle of Hogwarts behind him and traveling to a creepy old house in the English countryside, in the film The Woman in Black.

A short teaser trailer for The Woman in Black has been released; while it’s very much a true tease, it’s nonetheless an effective preview that hints at a potentially unnerving and atmospheric ghost story.

The Woman in Black tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), a young lawyer who travels to the remote English village of Crythin Gifford, having been charged with the task of setting the recently-deceased Alice Drablow’s (Alisa Khazanova) affairs in order. It is there that Kipps glimpses a mysterious women dressed solely in black – and begins to uncover dark secrets that suggest the locals may know more about the specter than they’re willing to admit.

Classic Gothic horror production house Hammer Films (Let Me In) helped finance The Woman in Black, which was scripted by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) based off Susan Hill’s original 1983 novel. Woman in Black also features a handful of notable European character actors, including Radcliffe’s Deathly Hallows: Part 2 costar, Ciarán Hinds.

Regardless of whether or not Woman in Black lives up to the teaser’s claims as being “the most chilling ghost story of our time,” this is a fittingly creepy preview that may send a shiver or two up your spine. The brief bits of footage shown look appropriately shadowy and ominous – and while this may not be true for everyone, I for one am always up for an eerie and atmospheric ghost mystery.

Woman in Black will also offer Radcliffe the opportunity to show off his newfound adult acting chops, now that the Harry Potter franchise and movies like December Boys are behind him. He’s continually improved as a thespian over the course of the boy wizard saga, so hopefully Radcliffe will prove all the more successful in his new cinematic venture as well.

The Woman in Black hits UK theaters on February 10th, 2012. We’ll let you know when the film has secured an official U.S. theatrical release date.

  1. Gave me the the shiver up the spine during the lamp turning scene lol.

  2. That’s the little nerd from Harry Potter? wow, doesnt even look like him.

Since the video here isnt working (at this moment it’s just showing as a paragraph of embed code), I went on google and typed in Woman in Black Trailer and low n behold Screenrant is the first find at the top of the google page. ;)

The trailer IS short, but I like the piano sound (ala original Nightmare on Elm Street) and the slight grungy Euro feel to it lol.

This might be one ghost story worth checking out, most of em bore me to tears.

  3. Having read the book, and seen the stage play, I hope the film can live up to material, and do it justice. N.B. The stage play is awesome!

  4. lol nerd.

It looks creepy already I really want to see it.

    • You only want to see it cos your boyfriend is in it!

      • And he would just geekout if Hermione was the Woman in Black. :-)

        • Don’t knock it, hermione is hawt

          • Wow

            • Come on Ricky; you know you would have a nerdgasm if the actress who played Hermione was actually the same actress playing the Woman in Black. Come on, admit it. 8-)

              • i admit it.

      • Hey, guys. This is coming from a person who actually seen the movie. This movie is one of the best and the scariest ghost movies I’ve ever seen. A basic plot line to this movie would be, every time someone sees the woman in black, no matter who, how long, how short, or where, some innocent child dies of very violent means, getting caught in fire, jumping out the window, getting hit by a train. All of these thins show up in the movie. This movie, like it says in the title, should NOT be watched alone. You will freak out. You can risked watching it alone only to be haunted by the woman in your dreams. This movie is based off a novel and the novel is based on a real life occurrence. I can’t tell you about the occurrence but you search about it and find a Wikipedia.

  5. lol

  6. I think his turn in Equus was enough demonstration of his “acting chops”.

  7. holy heck the eyes part scared the heck out of me!!!

  8. Wow, our little Harry sure has grown up! Who knew his jaw was going to be so great :p

I for one, am looking forward to his acting career. He’s a terribly nice bloke!

  9. Yawn. Looks like a low budget snooze fest.

  10. This looks like the type of scary film I enjoy…REAL suspense, psychological horror, a feeling of discordant discomfort…not like that Saw/Rob Zombie crap that’s been coming out the ten years or so (though I enjoyed “Paranormal Activity” and its sequel)…at least the impression I’m getting from the teaser.

  11. I’m comfortable with the level of acting chops… I’m just worried about the screenplay and the direction at this stage. Will this have been crafted subtly enough to give those acting chops proper reign or will he be stifled by poor support?

Such things can ruin an actor. :/

  12. Man, he doesn’t look as bad as I would have thought. The dudes a midget though, he makes Tom Cruise look tall.

  13. Iam so glad they have been doing more horror/suspense/thriller movies. I love superheroes but lately it seems like there are too many of them.

  14. it seems that this movie is end or disaster for he`s carrier poor daniel god save him wish he does better movies in future…

    • Alex…

Ummm, how do you figure? The teaser hints at a creepy, atmospheric horror film, unlike the campy or gross or just plain stupid crap that has been released much too often in the last few years.

      Disaster? I think not.
