Screen Rant received a press release with a cool preview image (as seen above) for the upcoming movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The purpose of the release was to let everyone know that Fox will be debuting three brand new trailers next week starting on Sunday, each a full 60-seconds long.
In addition to that, several exclusive images were sent out to IGN, Coming Soon and Latino Review and we collected them here for you.
But first, here is the focus of the press release:
Beginning Sunday, viewers across the nation can witness the origins of one of the year’s most anticipated movies, when Twentieth Century Fox debuts an exclusive, three-part exclusive reveal of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE on FOX.
For this unprecedented promotional event – which is too big for one night – the studio has created three special sixty-second spots, one leading into the next, and which together form a narrative. The first spot airs this Sunday (February 15) on “Family Guy,” the second on Monday (Feb. 16) on “House,” and the third on Tuesday (Feb. 17) on “American Idol.”
After the broadcasts, the three spots will be released online.
X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, the first chapter in the X-Men saga, unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them.
Hugh Jackman, who reprises the role that made him a superstar, is joined by Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan, and Ryan Reynolds, as well as Taylor Kitsch, will.i.am, and Lynn Collins. Gavin Hood directs from a screenplay by David Benioff and Skip Woods (writing credit not yet final). The producers are Lauren Shuler Donner, Ralph Winter, Hugh Jackman, and John Palermo.
I can’t wait to see more for this movie as it’s one of Screen Rant‘s and my most anticipated movies of the year – We’ll have the trailers up for you as soon as they are made available online.
While you wait for the new trailers, here are the new images for you (click on them for larger format):

The quality of these three images match that of a volunteer photoshop contest or some very early green-screening work – In my mind, they don’t do much to help promote the movie. I hope the trailers will fix that.
It’s cool seeing the characters in action shots but couldn’t they do better? I’m disappointed. Notice, there’s no love for Deadpool yet? My prediction is that they’re saving him and his full costume reveal till later.
What do you think of the images?
X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens May 1, 2009.

I wonder if anyone else notices that the foreground smoke in the first and third image is the same?
Wow, not to mention the “confetti” effect as well… How lazy…
i still can not get over how liev Shriber (Sabertooth) does not look the part at all…
in the third picture hugh Jackman (Wolverine) looks larger then liev Shriber (sabertooth) ok let get the facts stright…

As far as looks go we all know Hugh J. looks like a giant wolverine (Hugh’s Height 6′ 2½” (1.89 m) and since he get Logan (James howlett, wolverine) right it after the first movie i was kind of forgiving… but Liev is only one inch taller then hugh and that is kind of ridiculous….
if this picture fails they may reboot the whole franchice and you know that might not be a bad thing
Hey all,
There’s a little sneak peak preview for the trailers – A promo of a promo you say?
Well yes, and it looks like Cyclops was in one scene (or someone with his power)… Wierd. If that’s the case, I hope he steals all the screen time back to make up for the first 3 X-Films.
Check it out here:

Looks kinda gay. Where’s Liberace?????
I’m with Lord Garth, these shots blow! (no pun intended)
I thought the trailer was cheesy as well. (LOVED Gambit though!)
I hope this isn’t gonna be one of those, “Let’s milk this for everything it’s worth even though we know it sucks” movie. (Matrix: Reloaded anyone?)
No Name Face is right too, Michael Keaton was wrong for Batman, Mr. Naomi Watts is ALL wrong for Sabertooth.
@No name
Geesh it’s been three movies and people are still complaining about Wolverines height. Get over it.
I will see this movie only because I love the X-Men period and not because its the Wolverine per-se. He never was my favorite X-Man and I never thought Jackman made a very convincing Wolverine just like Ms. Berry doesn’t look anything like Storm – neither are tall or athletic looking enough for those roles. Although Berry is quite the beauty. And I’m with you JessSayin – I do hope they don’t go crazy with too many characters and cheesy over the top acting. We’ll see – right?
@INK…gotta totally agree with you. Some people aren’t going to be happy until Danny DeVito is playing Wolverine.
GET OVER IT PEOPLE!!!
Jackman is the PERFECT Wolverine. You know, it’s not about the height. It’s a movie and it’s a role so it is about acting…
I agree, Hugh is a good Wolverine, but I also understand what everyone else is saying, they should have just stuck with Tyler Mane, but they got Liev Schreiber instead. I liked Tyler Mane a lot as Sabertooth, and I do Like Liev Schreiber, but I don’t think he fits Sabertooth very well, though I do expect a good performance.
Perhaps they didn’t go with Tyler Mane in this one because some actual “acting” was required.
Vic
Fox seems to forget that X-MEN works for a reason that they seem to be throwing out. They aren’t superheroes… they are MUTANTS. Huge difference. Outcasts of normal society, freaks. Here, they are just good looking people with powers.
BIGGEST CASE IN POINT: GAMBIT
What made Gambit so unique were his black eyes with red pupils that ignited when his powers activate. Though a good looking cat in the comics, his eyes made him abnormal among human standards. His eyes are such a “unique” visual which would have been so bold on screen, of course are removed by the film makers. I know without a doubt they cast Taylor because of how his eyes looked in The Covenant [see the motorcycle fight scene] and you have a basis for how these things get put together by the suits. Leaving Gambit’s eyes out makes the film lackluster in its appeal.
CASE IN POINT: DEADPOOL
Ryan Reynolds in a boring red shirt and a couple of swords does not equal cool. It equals uninventive and dull. I understand they are paying for face-time with RR, I get that… we all had to bare the brutal casting of Topher as Venom and watch him mug through the minimal time Venom was on screen. And, I can’t fully make the assumption that we won’t see DP in full costume yet, but let’s admit… it does look bleak. Deadpool’s costume, even if for 70% of the film, was just from the neck down in red and black leather would be visually hard core, and it wouldn’t hurt RR to have some scars on his face for this film.
LAST CASE: THE LOOK
I’ve seen Tsotsi, and visually its a masterpiece of dark edge. Cinematic and wide in scope. Wolverine looks like bad 70’s television. Overly lit, no mood. Sets look like sets on soundstages and not environments.
Can usually see the arc of a film by the trailer. IRONMAN was case in point that all the right notes were hit. This one, misses on all of them.
Short people have no chance in Hollywood, the land of the vain. So good luck finding a 5’3″ actor for Wolverine…
@Ken J
Are you kidding? Do you know how many leading actors and actresses in Hollywood are 5’6″ and under? A ton!
Vic
Not talking about actresses since being skinny and small kind of help them. But ok, name me 2 leading actors in action movie roles that is under 5’6″ that isn’t Asian.
I’m Asian, so I’m not trying to be mean to Asians, but hey, we’re not tall guys.
I seriously don’t think I can remember any action stars that is short though, I really can’t.
@Ken J
Ok, maybe 5’6″ is a little short but many actors are 5’9″ and shorter:
http://usedwigs.com/hollywood-height-chart/
Vic
Vic, that site doesn’t mention that Sly is only 5’9″. I met him once and I was looking down a bit at him and I am only 5’11″…so I think the 5’9″ is being generous….LOL….
@ Ken J
I heard Kurt Russell was in the original running for Wolverine and then that it would have been the dude that played the bad guy in MI2. That would have been horrible.
@ Screenrant
I don’t know why everyone focuses on Jackman and his height as their complaints about the movie version of Wolverine, even though I agree. Hugh Jackman does such a remarkable job as Wolverine, that I would have to say he defined it. Just like RDJ with Iron Man and Heath Ledger with the new Joker. I would not accept anyone else playing them.
I am very worried about this film, although I am giving it the benefit of the doubt. Wolverine and Magneto are my favorite mutants and I have been a fan since childhood. The Wolverine & Sabretooth rivalry is very important and I pray that they hit the right notes.
No, Liev does not LOOK the part but I am hoping that they picked him because he can ACT the part. Check him in Defiance, in my opinion he steals the screen from Craig.
Remember, the trailers might not have revealed Sabretooth and Deadpool’s final look to us. I mean Creed can grow his mane out and all that later, the rest of his look was just a costume that would definitely look like a joke on screen. I can’t think of a reason why his hair isn’t blonde though. I also can’t think of an excuse for Schrieber not beefing up for the role if he took it serious…. i mean any comic book image of the two arch enemies depicts the size differnce, which was one of the great dynamics of their vendetta. Still, Victor Creed is kind of what Logan (I like that better than James) would be like if he totally let himself go. They are both primal but Wolverine hides compassion underneath his tough exterior, that is what sets them apart. Creed enjoys the pleasure he feels from giving in to the animal instincts the Wolverine subdues. That is important and I hope it is communicated in the film. The wrestler dude that played Creed could not have conveyed anykind of complex emotional motive, did you see the movies? Gimme a break. Recasting was brilliant and necessary but was the recast right?
But… hey… look at Spider-Man 3… what the &%$&^ was that? Rhetorical.
I don’t like how they made Gambit a pretty boy, he doesn’t look tough. I hope he doesn’t act how he looks and PLEASE have the Cajun accent it is very important. *crosses fingers*
I am anticipating this film more than Watchmen. I started reading comics in the 90′s so my fellow comic geeks must understand.
The Wolverine, Sabretooth rivalry was poorly underdeveloped in the X-Men trilogy, well… disgracefully developed. Now there is one last opportunity to bring not only Wolverine & Sabretooth to the silver screen as they should’ve been but even Deadpool and Gambit. Fox… please… just please care for once.
My take on the trailers is pretty much the same as everyone elses – the action looks great and the characters are excited but there is no harmony in the trailer. Because of that, it is hard for me to get a good sense of the tone.
At the same time, Gavin Hood is good at setting tones.
In any event, Wolverine being portrayed badly on screen is not Hugh Jackman’s fault it is production, writing and directing. e.g. X-Men films.
I have a one shot (I think) comic titled ‘Weapon X’, the visuals look really close to the trailer (I heard someone complaining about the look of sets). The lab scenes look like they could be right out of it.
Yes, those pictures above are ‘gay’.
It will be awesome if the three trailers released make up for what the current one is missing – unity.
Don’t worry Wolverine! You still got one loyal fan on your side! May 1st can’t come soon enough!
Oh yeah and Keaton is the best Batman. Bale is the best Bruce Wayne.
I’m 5’10″ and I met Patrick Stewart once. I towered over him. Freaked me out because he was the captain of the Enterprise!
Robert Downey Jr. is shorter than me too if I recall correctly.
Vic
Yah, but he was asking about 5’3″ which is supposed to be Wolverine’s height. And I think up until IM RDJ was never even considered for an action role. Sly only made it because he compensated for his height with muscle, but they still made fun of his height. And I remember a lot of people were making fun of RDJ’s height when he was announced to play Tony Stark. I’m so glad they didn’t let those criticisms get to them because he nailed the role.
But I’m wondering if the day will ever come when an Asian will be the star of an action movie and does NOT to some form of martial arts. I just want to see some really bad ass gun wielding Asian guy ripping up the town with a M4…
Duh, Tom Cruise. He’s short and has action starring roles. But it’s still like 1 out of 1000. Shorter people definitely have it harder out there in the superficial world of Hollywood.
Elijah Wood is 5’6″, but didn’t he play a hobbit? =)
I think we go over the Schriebertooth thing in every Wolvy post. The common senses seems to be that he probably becomes the Sabretooth we all know and love near the end of the film, as with Ryan Reynolds gettin’ scarred up and donning the tights.
Rev
The problem with the trilogy was that Wolverine was a focal point without the detail to back it up. The first one was the Wolverine and Rogue show, the second and third dropped “and Rogue”. Save Wolverine’s story for this Origins project and kept the story more about Xavier and Magneto.
My guess is this Wolverine movie is going to do pretty well sales-wise but be pretty weak story-telling.
@ Panda
If the story-telling is weak it would be a shame. There is so much material to draw from but then again… look at X-Men.
x-men origins: wolverine will make some serious $cash$ without a doubt. i dont think the story will be as strong as the x-men trilogy. my friends on countingdown.com are saying the same thing (yes, im a member on countingdown.com). as far as spin-off go; it’ll be a good story.
the producers cut young storm out of the final film (little girl with light blondish-white hair), what the crap; it would have been great too. now we’ll only see it on blu-ray ”sigh”; because you wont see it in theaters thats for sure. i blame avi arad, lauren shuler donner(she said it herself that they cut it) and the rest of the films producers. stan lee really needs to start sticking up more for his creations. but i know he’s too busy with comics, and cameo’s (lol).
wolverine will be cool. i cant wait to see the movie. go x-men origins: wolverine.
Hi everyone…
@ everyone who is discusing the hight issue;
i seriously believe HJ is not bulky enough and is only %50 of what Logan should be… i seriously think there is no way to compare RDJ as tony stark to HJ as wolvarine… i as an Xman reader from the age of seven (currently 24. I remember how my parents would only let me read the old ones which marval released in these large volumes) and i wolvarine was a dark brooding charecter who had a attidute…
Now HJ was picked for wtvr reason and i am not brooding over that fact but when i see a picture and Sabertooth is smaller then Mutant X then it kind of grinds my gears…
