New ‘Wolverine’ Images Feature Nice Japan Scenery & Bloody Claws

1 year ago by

Hot on the heels of a new image from The Wolverine featuring Logan flashing some (gasp!) blood-stained claws, we now have a more extensive gallery of new images to shared – including an official look at those much-discussed bloody claws (a first for the X-Men movie universe).

The new film finds Logan (Hugh Jackman) in an uncertain place following the events of X-Men 3; with so many friends (both new and old) dead, Logan begins to question his life as a semi-immortal killing machine. That search for direction leads him to the shores of Japan, and into the crosshairs of an old enemy that will strike at Wolverine like never before.

Director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) recently revealed that the much-anticipated Wolverine trailer will be released at the end of March. Fans have been (yearning for? Worrying about?) what said trailer will reveal: one of the better X-Men (and/or comic book) movies we’ve seen thus far? Or a lackluster project that makes us all wish for the Darren Aronofsky/Christopher McQuarrie version that was once compared to being, “Kurosawa’s Wolverine”? We’ll soon have a better idea of which way things will go.

For now, Check out the new Images:

The production photo of Jackman standing in the rain by an ovular window seems like a behind-the-scenes peek at a moment in the film which was recently highlighted by another promotional image, depicting the finished scene:

From the set design to the darker cinematography to the bloodier action and the impressive physique of Hugh “I-am-jacked-man,” it at least seems like Mangold has done something excited with this next chapter of the X-Men movie saga.

Here’s hoping that A) the trailer further indicates as much and B) if successful, The Wolverine influences the tone and shape of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past (also starring Jackman), helping to deliver a much-improved X-Men movie universe.

The Wolverine will be in theaters on July 26, 2013.

  1. I’m so looking forward to this movie. I’m getting a sense that they made extra sure they got this one right.

    • they better have…theyve got a lot riding on this cuz its kinda like a lead-in to x men DOFP

      • Actually this happens after X-Men 3 while Days Of Future Past happens before X-Men.

        • Before and after really.

  2. Meh.

    I’ll wait for the trailer.

  3. Nicolas Cage could play Wolverine after HUgh Jackman leaves the claws.

    • What’s wrong with you?! Wolverine must be played by Hugh Jackman forever! Besides Cage is perfect for Dr Strange

      • The only thing Cage is perfect for, is taking acting lessons. Which he should do.

        • +1 to Nicholas Cage taking acting lessons. I can see him doing the “I’m-catching-on-fire Ghost Rider scream” as he becomes the Sorcerer Supreme…ewww.
-10 to him being Dr. Strange.

Just make it Patrick Dempsey and be done with it already. He’s the mnost obvious choice for the job.

          • Sorry. I meant Patrick Dempsey as Dr. Strange. I’d say maybe Colin Farrell as a new Wolverine.

      • My god! I didn’t saw that before! He totally looks the part. Please Disney if you are seeing this get Cage for Strange!

    • seriously is that a joke or are you dumb there is no other actor in this world that could play wolverine better or even attemp to, they got that casting exactaly right for wolverine, so why dont u and nic cage go fist each other, maybe then he can be ur wolverine!!

    • I would prefer to see Nathan Fillion as Wolverine before Cage.

      • I still say use him for Green Lantern and give Ryan the boot.

    • Am I the only one who thinks that Ben Affleck could do a pretty good Wolverine?

  4. looks boring…

    • Shame. I’m personally quite looking forward to this!

  5. Yea, I agree. The pics are kinda weak, nothing that reassures me of anything
Other than its wolverine basically in japan. The trailer is crucial to breathe life into this flick. Its gotta set the mood.

  6. did somebody say…cage play strange…sir if you werent my friend ill slap you. lol …no seriously

  7. So, after all of this time, they are finally going to let Wolverine get his claws bloody? Awesome! Looks like a huge step in the right direction!

  8. Nic Cage is ridiculous. Aiden Gillen is the one for Dr. Strange! Looks far more like him than any actor I can think of, and has very subtle and arrogant acting chops perfect for the tortured surgeon who takes a humbling journey.

  9. Cage is not a bad actor at all, you guys must of heard of Nicholas Cage yesterday or something. Do your research kids. On the other hand, I hope that this movie is good but the hair isn’t working though.

  10. Can we not write of Jackman just yet? He’s been the best Wolverine for this entire series of movies. I can’t even begin to imagine anyone else playing him. I like that these images give Logan a more… aged look so to speak. Everything’s starting to catch up with him and it’s showing more. I like it. I’m encouraged by the pictures and can’t wait for the trailer and the movie, both.

    • “The best Wolverine for this entire series of movies”? was there another actor that played Wolverine?

      • he is the best of the total of one.

  11. Nic Cage is like Galactus. But instead of sucking life out of the cosmos, he sucks the potential out of movies.

  12. these wolv solo films arent gonna do great anyway so why not at least put him in THE costume and go all out gritty action and plot.

Down to earth action mind you, not the silliness of origins

  13. how about scott caan for wolverine, he’s got the (real) height.
