Wolverine 2 will tell the story Hugh Jackman wanted to tell when he first signed on for his own X-Men spin-off movie. Based on Frank Miller and Chris Claremont’s Wolverine comics from the 1980s, Wolverine 2 will take us to Japan in what is one of the most popular and famous Wolverine stories to date.
When X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s release on home video was being promoted last summer, producer Lauren Shuler Donner stated that Wolverine 2 would give fans of the books a much more accurate translation from page to screen. “Certainly in ‘Wolverine 2,’ in the Japanese saga, we will stay very close to the source material,” Donner explained. “I think it’s just best that way.”
Now we finally have a clue as to how true this may be in the case of Wolverine 2…
While Donner’s words represent the usual media-trained response any and all producers would say about most comic book adaptations these days, we haven’t had a good read on what Oscar-winning writer Christopher McQuarrie is doing with the story of Wolverine 2 until today, with Pajiba’s exclusive report on the main characters included in the sequel. Here’s their list with a brief explanation of their role in the plot:

Silver Samurai confirmed in Wolverine 2
Over a year ago we discussed the potential villains of Wolverine 2 and it’s no surprise to see who’s included above. For the most part, the characters confirmed are expected and are very similar to their roles in the comics with the exception of Viper. The Silver Samurai is the main antagonist for Wolverine to duel with and an important character in Marvel Comics. In the books, he’s a mutant who has the ability to charge objects – this is likely the cause of his electrifying armor in the film.
Other character details aside, Wolverine 2 will undoubtedly explore Wolverine’s growth as a character where he learns to control his rage and attempt starting a new life. In addition to meditation and learning inner-peace, in the comics Logan is able to learn and master many forms of martial arts during the Japanese saga.
Wolverine 2 begins shooting in March for a 2012 Summer release.

HELL YA I’m there
sounds terrible …
I’m actually excited about this for once, too bad Scott isn’t directing though.
Isn’t Aronofsky confirmed? I personally think he has a better track record than Scott, but just my opinion
.
mmm yea keep your opinion lol, Scott’s a way better action director which is what a lot of this film will have. At least they didnt go with that Twilight person didn’t get the gig though
Well yeah, Scott is better at action for sure. I just have liked all of Aronofskys’ movies as opposed to Scott is hit or miss for me, though I love ‘True Romance’ and it’s one of my top 20. And double that on not getting the twilight twards lol!
both him and Ridley are hit and miss
Reason im worried about Aronofsky… cuz hes never directed an action flick. Im not saying he cant but that fact that i havent seen it worries me. Scott on the other hand has made some decent action flicks. Some.
That’s true but neither did Tarantino till Kill Bill. Maybe not the greatest example, but at least noteworthy
.
its a GREAT example!!
Thanks Anthonty!
ill wait for a trailer
Control his rage? He barely had any rage to begin with! I’m speaking to the tame movie that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Sigh. I still have to see it though. Even if just to be sure of my own criticisms.
I fully agree Marc Glave. The major point of interest for fans when they first announced X-Men Origins: Wolverine was seeing a completely unleashed, berserker-rage Wolverine. Instead we got a neutered Logan with no sign of the Wolverine we know and love from the comics.
Hopefully this movie can finally deliver the goods, but I’ll reserve judgment until at least the trailer comes out.
he was james howlett in that film he lost his memory and is prolly pissed off about it i bet we’ll see the real logan in this…
also, now that he’s had a “traumatic brain injury”, he has a very realistic reason to be nuts!
I dont know why but i think this dirction is the wrong move to make – Even so that the previous films have been really disapointing i’m just not convinced they can pull this off, I think it’s too late in the Franchise/story to go in for this direction even if it is a prequel
I hope they prove me wrong though ofcourse cos it could be amazing but there history speaks for itself
hopefully they’ll cast real asian actors in this film, not like the farce that was the Last Airbender. I think this has potential, i just don’t trust Fox
man i had high expectations for Wolverine origins but it fell short…wwaayy short adamantium bullets?? that just killed it for me i hope the sequel is better but thats wishful thinking
but ill reserve judgment till a trailer is made
What’s up on Asian actors?
Too bad there isn’t room for Gambit or Creed in this. But that’s alright I guess…in any case, it’s interesting that The Hand is involved.
Hopefully now him having his memory gone will make him beserk….it makes since why he didn’t in orgins cause of his girl an her powers but still should of had him gone nuts on weapon 11. This has potenial just got to wait and see what the photos and trailers look like before I make up my mind.
you think theyll bring in ken watanabe for silver samurai?
He’d steal every scene like he did in The Last Samurai
Watanabe is too old for that part, and there’s no part that requires the gravitas he brings to a role. Ken is a very good actor, and he’ll upstage Hugh given half a chance.
Yep, just like he did Cruise.
SEEING IT!!
Boy, what a time to stick to the source material. They finally want to stick with it and it is the most boring story in the whole Wolverine collection. Silver Samurai is a major part of Wolverines history but he sucks. I think I will just stay home and sleep. My bed is much more comfortable than a movie theater seat.
I’ve got an idea: cut Hugh Jackman, and EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH THE PROJECT.
Jackman may be good in other movies, but if he’s taken such a kick-*** character, and removed his testosterone… If we haven’t seen the, “I’m-the-best-at-what-I-do,-but-what-I-do-isn’t-very-nice,” then why has Jackman, and DONNER, been able to keep the character? When the Clooney-tron killed Batman, his *** was kicked to the curb, and we got Christian Bale, and his, “raggle-snargle-raggle-snarf” voice, and it works. Tobey Maguire turned Spider-Man into a web-slinging, estrogen-filled soap opera, and now we can look forward to a hopefully better Spider-Man film.
I’m going to wrap up this rant, don’t worry. What I think we should do is remove Jackman from the role, cast someone who can embrace the feral side of James Howlett, and also project the humanity from a creature as dark as Wolverine. It just…drives me nuts they’re continuing to deface such a renown character. :-/
Omega Red! What the hell?! Hasn’t anyone even considered him??
…
I never even THOUGHT about him. But…there’s so much backstory to be explained, though. And we all know how Hollywood is on the story behind the story…
“…we will stay very close to the source material”
Ha!
I’ll believe it only after reading the review here, from reading respected Screenrant opinions and through word of mouth.
Only then will I decide if Fox Abattoirs will get any of my money at the cinema.
i think the whole issue of his “rage” is a mute topic at this point..
If they were to do Wolverine right-it should’ve been done along time ago..Maybe they get it right this time, but at this point I’d rather see a sequel to say, Jonah Hex than Wolverine..Maybe an older Wolverine??hmm who knows?? Also the “japan” storyline, yeah it was cool at the time but at this point-well it should’ve been told in the last franchise, maybe explain where he was between 1 and 2..but this story probably would be better told in a serialized fashion like on AMC or HBO..Unless they can get folks to sit thru 2 and 1/2 hours of SHOGUN meets WOLVERINE-I don’t see it workin out..get WOLVERINE in the now and have it happen that he gets his memory back-and goes after those who were responsible…If they truly want to progress this further with the “japan” storyline they need to involve his son and Romulus…
No. They should never be brought to screen. EVER.
If they MUST go with the Japan angle, just stick with the original series.
Really, though, there’s pretty much zero chance of me seeing this movie. I still haven’t bothered with the first one.
Man im to late in seeing this article
I was so hoping Spider-Ham would be the key villain…sigh.
this will be awesome
SHNICT! SHNICT! LETS DANCE ! LOL!
Looks like they are get back on the right X-men story lines , thank goodness!
At least they didn;t screw around the pld lame schtick about time lines or back to future past crap.lol
Hugh Jackman is awesome
X-men was a failed. wolverine was very bad movie the whole plot storyline was way out to the comics.
And now this.
Wolverine is not a drama movie and he should be kickass director and frank miller for the script. I will watch it for
sure. Hope they are going to do justice.
As long as you can see The Winter Soldier introduced in this movie it will be a success.
