Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher series, has revealed that he has played through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt two and a half times. Cavill is probably most well known for his role as Superman in the DC Universe, but has managed to garner even more attention in his new role as The Witcher's Geralt. The brand-new Netflix series is supposedly more inspired by the franchise's books rather than the massively popular video game franchise, but that hasn't stopped legions of Witcher video game fans from excitedly latching onto this series when it was announced.

The Witcher has a slightly complicated history as a medium. Andrzej Sapkowski began writing short stories set in The Witcher's universe in the mid 1980's. In 2003, the video game company CD Projekt Red purchased the rights to the series and created the very first The Witcher video game for PC. Most recently, in 2015 they published The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, which has been credited by some critics to be one of the best video games of all time. The universe has been further expounded upon with comic books, card games, a board games, and now a new Netflix television show.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine Cavill stated that video games are the way he escapes the craziness of the life that he lives, and he also had played The Witcher game long before Netflix decided to make a show based on the series. In fact, when he found out about the show's existence he actually contacted Netflix about appearing because he was so excited by the prospect. Cavill also wants the show to stay as true to the background lore of The Witcher as possible, and has stated that he will do everything in his power to ensure as much. Cavill also plays games like Warhammer and says he grew up on titles like Delta Force and Half-Life.

To some it may come as a surprise that a man with such a busy schedule as Cavill spends his free time playing fantasy video games. In the last 10 years he has been involved with several very prominent TV shows and movies, including Cavill's role as Superman in three separate films for the DC Universe, as well as roles in Mission: Impossible Fallout and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.not to mention his three-year stint on the TV show The Tudors.

While Cavill being an avid gamer must come as a surprise to quite a few fans of his, it must also be an exciting revelation. It isn't everyday that fans get to see famous celebrities reveal they have the same hobbies or interests as average working class people. This helps Cavill seem a little more personable, and only adds to his charm. Surely, there are quite a few fans of The Witcher who now want to sit on Cavill's couch and play video games with him all day long.
