  • Eric Tomlinson -Morgantown, WV

Congratulations and thanks to everyone for entering. There’s another contest RIGHT around the corner!

Didn’t we JUST close out a DVD giveway? Well, it’s time for another one! With the opening of the remake of the classic Science Fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves, we thought it would be appropriate to give away the original film. If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth watching, and this 2-disc Special Edition DVD has tons of extra features to give you insight in to the making of the film.

A spaceship lands in Washington D.C., capturing the attention of the world. But the alien emissary it brings refuses to reveal his mission to any single government, leaving the military, the politicians, and millions of ordinary people to wait in fear. Soon their distrust turns to calls for violence. But one young woman and her son befriend him…and soon realize that they may be all that stands between the human race and total destruction.

Two lucky winners will receive:

  1. Ya I don’t use twitter lol

  2. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST EVER SI-FI MOVIES OF ALL TIME…BUT I’M HOPING THE NEW MOVIE STILL CAPTURES THE MAGIC AND ISN’T JUST EFFECTS FROM START TO FINISH.
GORT IN THE OLD MOVIE WAS REALLY SCARY…YET HE NEVER DONE MUCH…BUT HE DIDN’T HAVE TO…HIS SILENCE WAS ENOUGH TO KNOW THIS GUYS ONE MEAN SOB…HAS ANYONE HERE HEARD ANY REPORTS YET AS TO WHAT THIS MOVIE’S GOING TO DELIVER?

  3. The first one dealt with an alien (Klaatu) coming to earth to warn us not to bring our bickering and childish warmongering to other planets, since we will one day apply nuclear power to rockets. This new one has Klaatu coming to earth to eradicate humans because we are killing the planet. I don’t have much hopes that this one will be better than the original, except for special effects. I think it will make around $15 million the first weekend and drop significantly the next.

  4. I never saw the original and would liek to see it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

  5. @John

It’s going to make a hell of a lot more than $15MM opening weekend, but the following weekend it will drop like a rock.

    Vic

  6. Yeah, the original movie’s plot completely stomps the remake.

  7. Anyone notice how this new cover art makes the flying saucer look similar to the ball looking ship in the new film ?

  8. If any of you regular SR readers are interested in this I *highly* recommend that you enter. 8-)

    Vic

  9. @Vic
I entered as soon as I saw this thread. I don’t want to make the same mistake I made with TDK give-a-way.

Hey, Ken, if I win, I’ll trade ya. :-D

  10. I would sign up but I already have this dvd lol

  11. @Vic

Thanks for the contest. I loved the classic version of the movie.
    Here’s hopin’ I win. :)

Not sold on the remake. Probably will be a rental. The whole environmental aspect Hollywood is implementing is REALLY starting to bug me.

  12. @Ink

I think everyone is getting sick of the environmental aspect. Its like they are literaly shoving it down our throats!

  13. In case anybody is interested this movie is on AMC tonight at 8:00 :)

  14. Nice contest. I would love to score a free copy.

  15. @Vic
Are you so sure now that you’ve seen it? You still believe it will make over $15 million the first weekend?

  16. Nothing wrong with a re-make as long as it is better than the original. Thank you for this great contest and prize@

  17. @Clifton Wade-
If you haven’t seen Vic’s review by now, read it.

  18. Here I stand in front of Pacific Theatres with a few hours to kill, out of all 13 films playing there’s nothing here I’m spending my 8,50 on.
    Screw you Neo,,,

Oh there goes another 6 kids and the mom into “Bolt” ahhh I’m gonna puke.
I guess I’ll go change the oil in my truck,,,

  19. Winners announced above, and one of them left a comment on this post. :-)

    Congrats!

Another contest is right around the corner!

    Vic

  20. Ah man!! I never win! I would say I must be lucky in love but my wife says, “Think again”. :-D

    Congratulations to the winners!

  21. @John

Did you enter? Gotta be in it to win it as they say. :-P

    Vic

  22. I thought I did. I am a member of Twitter and I sent an e-mail to the address above. Oh, but it was from my job, which has a firewall. Maybe I should have done this from home, like I am doing now. DRAT!!!

  23. Ok, Vic, so you were right; DTESS made over $30 million. Where do I send the cookie? :-D

  24. Hey I won!
Thanks a lot Vic, I look forward to receiving it!

  25. Yes, thanks so much Vic! I remember the first day I started reading SR… Ah, it was just like it was yesterday… This is a great reason to stick around and stay involved on the site, as I never thought I would win anything!

    All the best!
Can’t wait to get my DVD :)

  26. Sorry for the delay – crazy Christmas stuff going on. DVDs for ALL our recent contests went out in batch a couple of days ago. :-)

    Vic
