I’ve been reading about a movie coming soon that stars Hayden “I was a lousy Anakin Skywalker” Christensen and Samuel L. “I’m a badass in every single movie” Jackson. The movie is called Jumper, and here’s the concept for the film:
A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between “Jumpers” and those who have sworn to kill them.
At first glance the description didn’t do much for me, but the trailer is kind of cool. Check it out below (thanks to IGN).
The first time you watch it, it almost makes you do a double take early on with the “hiccups” in movement. As it moves along it gets pretty cool and even with the freaky white hair I still love watching Sam Jackson on the screen.
The background they’ve built into the story is interesting, including things like the fact that a jumper can only jump to a place that he has been before or a place that he can see or that the emotional state of the jumper affects the amount of collateral damage caused by the jump. This damage is caused by what they’re calling a “jumpscar” which is a rip in spacetime. It can either by small and be barely visible or large and cause lots of damage, depending on if the jumper is freaked out and/or inexperienced.
It’s by Doug Limon, the director of The Bourne Identity and Mr & Mrs Smith and that’s a pretty damned good pedigree.
Jumper opens February 15, 2008. (Click here to visit the official site)
