Jerry Bruckheimer is a fantastic producer. He makes slick entertainment that may not be mentally challenging, but it is enjoyable. His resume looks like a collection of $100 million dollar hits, and with the CSI franchise under his belt on television it can be truly said that the man is an entertainment phenomenon.
One of the next projects on the Bruckheimer conveyer-belt is the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (based on the videogame). With any big movie comes the question- who will star. Apparently the smart money is on everyone’s favorite elf and pirate fighter- Orlando Bloom. However, it may also be Zac Efron.
I’m guessing that the character description for the lead reads: wooden actor.

Now, I love Bruckheimer movies, and I’m also a CSI addict- Vegas nothing else… man that Grisson dude is cool. I also dig the Pirates of the Caribbean movies but the weak link in the franchise is Orlando Bloom. As much as he tries, the man cannot act. He makes Keanu Reeves look good. Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but he is not leading man material- no matter how many $300 million blockbusters he stars in. Sadly, money talks in Hollywood so I doubt may humble opinion will be accepted by executives.
Now Zac Efron on the other hand makes Bloom look like Brando. High School Musical? Please!
Jerry, Mr Bruckheimer- I was there for Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun and even Bad Company- please don’t cast Efron or Bloom. I know that you want a franchise, I know that you wan’t kids to see the movie, but don’t let the film suffer because of an age demographic.
You worked well with Tom Cruise- give him a call- he looks 30- it’s about time you renewed your working relationship.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is set to be directed by Mike Newell and will lens shortly in Pinewood Studios (here in the UK) and in Morocco for a June 19, 2009 release.

Personally, I wouldn’t choose Cruise. IMO. I really don’t know. I loved the game(s)so this news is pretty interesting.
If this is done, the game does have a dark sense to it. If they want kids to see it, I hope they don’t take away from the movie like you said. Which they prob will, I believe.

Never liked the game as its all about spinning around doing nija moves while using the all purpose sword. Weeee

Prince of Persia? Never played it but shouldn’t the prince at least look like he is from that area? How about that guy from The Mummy that was so good, Oded Fehr? I bet he could do it and he has a lot of charisma and screen presence.
Definately not Cruise at all, I think that’s a horrible idea and he couldn’t pull this off.
If they’re making the movie like the game was they need a lesser name like Rodrigo Santoro, who has the build and look for the role…even the skin tone!
If they’re going big name…then I don’t know who they could get and either way the movie will suffer badly for it.
Nooo, not cruise, I just dont see him as the agile prince. Nor do I like him or think his tall enough.
Prince of persia is all about agility and crazy sword fighting. Someone with a martial arts movie background might not be a bad idea imo.
Still, i’m looking forward to it.
I think Orlando would be great for the part……..he is familiar with Martial Arts, Sword play and Archery etc., Through being in Lord of The Rings, Kingdom of Heaven, Troy,The Pirates Movies. He may not be the best of actors, but he does try, with more experience i’m sure he will improve. but he has the skills and I have to say the looks too for the job………if he does get the part I for one will buy all three!
How about David Belle? The Prince of Persia is one athletic fellow who leaps over walls, jumps across death traps and stuff like that, no? Maybe it could be a parkour movie of some sort.

Oh my gosh picture Zack Efron as the prince! I can see it now.As he’s fighting the wizard dude he starts singing “I’m gonna defeat you!” And the wizard dude would be like What the crap! And then Zac kills him by his gayness and He and the WHOLE intire kingdom break out in song.
