Who Is ‘The Last Cylon’ On Battlestar Galactica?

Here’s a wild theory on who may be the final Cylon on Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica's version of The Last Supper

With the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica upon us, I have many questions swirling around in my head. Not to mention I either hate or thank Ron Moore for this. Thanks Ron!!!

Before I start, I have to warn you that as of April 4th of this year, it was reported over on EW that the first 10 of the last 20 episodes are scheduled to air – which seems to confirm what they were saying over on SyFy Portal about the season being split up, so be ready for a break in the midst of it all if the writers strike didn’t mess up their plans. (BTW, the EW link has some good background info for those who need to play catch-up.)

So who the frak is the final Cylon? Let me torment you with some logic and observations first.

In the picture above, it’s called Battlestar Galactica: The final supper. In the picture is a goblet by itself at the table. Is there some significant clue by this missing representation of a figure or the cornerstone to the answer? It is such a simple goblet or cup, yet by itself, being pondered heavily by Lee Adama. At EW.com, if you click on the number representing the goblet, they point out that Moore insinuates the missing Cylon is not at the table. Well, there go a a few theories.

One of my first thoughts, since they like tossing twists at us, is Mr. Gaeta, only because if you look at the four of the final five, they’re all in strong support positions in the fleet, much like Gaeta has been all along.

The wheels are turning now, aren’t they?

But yet as I ponder the final Cylon, I also have in my head the quote we’ve heard a number of times, first in Battlestar Galactica: Razor, and then in the show itself: “This has all happened before; and will all happen again”

What the heck does that mean?

In recent episodes, we’ve seen the Cavils having the raiders lobotomized, referring to them as “They’re tools, not pets.” – Which says they’re treating members of their own race like slaves. Not cool Cavil. In fact, maybe foretelling?

We’ve seen Six’s and Sharons’ give the Centurions free thinking.

We also see the Six’s and Sharons have the Cavils, Dorals, and Simons all shot, and then Six asks one of the Centurion’s to “throw the surviving Cavil model out the airlock… please.

Old Cylon vs New CylonIn that scene, there’s a Centurion in the foreground cleaning up the massacre mess, and when she said please, he stopped what he was doing and seemed to look in her direction, pondering, then went about his business. That scene said it all for me, because what I saw was a spark of a thought in that metal head of his. Dare I say, a plan? Wait, doesn’t the show open up saying the Cylons have a plan? This all started with the shiny guys, it’s probably going to end with the shiny guys.

Bruce’s Revelation, with the reasoning that created it:

1. Humans created the Cylons.

2. Cylons rebelled against their human creators.

3. The Cylons evolved themselves into their creators image (aka “skin jobs”).

4. The new Cylons (skin jobs) lobotomize the Raiders AND in the same move, have given the Centurions free thinking.

With this, I project the following inspirations:

- The Centurions are not just tools.

- They must rebel against their creators in order to avoid being lobotomized.

- Suddenly, we will have the Cylons fighting the “Humans” all over again.

We then see “humans” defending themselves against the “Cylons / Centurions” and of course, the Centurions would probably create skin jobs somewhere down the road in order to infiltrate the “humans.”

And it starts all over.

Hence, all of humanity is “The Last Cylon.”

For me, this premise puts to rest some questions and doubts I have had about the new Cylons… For example, if Tigh is a Cylon, how was he in the first Cylon war?

If it’s not all of humanity, I’ll go with Plan B: Gaeta.

Me? I can sleep now. It all makes sense… that is until I find I’m wrong.

What’s your take? I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter!

  1. Last week as in May 23 or May 16th?

No new episode on the 23rd, but the 16th might encourage your “Gaeta is the final cylon” musings.

As for scar, perhaps you’re right – that scar is simply the one she crashed and later gutted and piloted.

  2. Wow. Wow.

How is it possible that Col. Tigh could get number six pregnant?

So maybe the final five aren’t cylons like number six etc after all.

    Wow.

  3. This is a bit of a twist from my original premise, but the other day while hanging out with some in-laws, my sister-in-law mentioned how her daughter is doing the same things or being like she was when she was a kid.. (light bulb)

    So the parents had habits,
    (it’s happened before),

and the children have the same predisposition to the same behavior.
    (it will happen again)

    Food for thought…

    Relevant? Probably not. We’ll see.

  4. Checked out the Battlestar Wiki yesterday and found a couple of things that make sense.

    1. The planned reason that the 13th god isn’t mentioned by the colonials was that one tried to raise himself above the others and that caused the scattering from Kobol. This explanation scene was cut, by the way.

    2. The Scar raider was only suggested [by Valerii]to be the raider that Kara flew back to Galactica. It was never established as fact. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Moore wasn’t asked about this in the I-Pod cast for the episode.

    3. In the episode “Rapture” where it’s questioned who #3 is really talking to, when she says “you were right.” I think that she was talking to Baltar and what she was trying to tell him was that he should have been the one to see the final five. Because she finally realized that she wouldn’t escape punishment for doing so and wouldn’t be allowed to reveal the knowledge.

“The final five” doesn’t that sound like some kind of football reference?

  5. There are so many blogs that talk about the scene where Boomer shoots Adama… that right before the shot Boomer shakes Gaeta’s hand, almost like Gaeta handed her the gun or triggered the programming. It’s been so long since I saw that episode I don’t remember. Sounds convincing though.

Again, Gaeta is the final cylon. Hands down

  6. You guys should check this out: http://ideas.4brad.com/gaetas-transsexual-lament-and-guess-whats-coming
Not saying it has too much relevance, however there is a line of the female hybrid quoted there: “Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves. The pain of revelation bringing new clarity and in the midst of confusion, he will find her.” I think this is refering to Gaeta, fits the whole strung out on morphine, phantom leg thing. Combine this with the lyrics of Gaetas song about a woman wearing a mans clothes, and I think we have what may be some evidence for Gaeta knowing who the final female cylon is.

  7. Steve,
Thanks for the lyrics! very cool.

    Panda,
is there a list of logic as to why “it is gaeda”?

anyone ever try to explain why gaeda woke in the night and walked to Baltar’s cube, err, I mean prison cell, while Baltar was hanging himself to death?

  8. Pete,
all evidence is circumstantial, but I’ve thought he was a Cylon since the end of season 3. It’s more of a hunch than logic. Many of his actions in the late 3rd season and now 4th season strongly suggest he has an agenda that has yet to be revealed (e.g. stabbing Baltar, purgery during the trial, trying to convince Helo to leave Starbuck behind so he didn’t lose his leg), these actions are out of character, or are a part of his character that hasn’t be explained. Either he is a Cylon or something else is up that he will have a bigger part to play before the end of the series.

Has anyone seen the theories on the internet that Gaeta is a female cylon in a male skinjob form? Who came up with that one?? Funny what people come up with

  9. After watching tonight’s preview and seeing Zarek take control in Roslin’s absence, I’m almost convinced he is the Final Cylon. The best twist though would be a Newhart style finale with Apollo (Richard Hatch) waking up next to Sheba (Anne Lockhart) with Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) and Boomer (Herb Jefferson, Jr.) knocking on the door. When he opens the door, Apollo comments: “You two looked better as women”.

  10. If Tigh can impregnate Six, it would seem that the final 5 can also reproduce with the other 7. If that is the case, then that puts Helo on my radar as the possible final cylon.

That might also explain why Hera Agathon is so important to everybody, but Nicholas Tyrol is not. (Granted, nobody but the 4 know that Chief is a cylon, but in the scheme of prophecy and visions, it’s like that kid doesn’t even exist or matter.)

Hera would be so, so important because she’s a product of one of the 7 (Athena) and one of the 5 (Helo). Or, I could be way off base. I just wondered if that whole thing with Tigh was meant to open up that possibility.

  11. But, are we sure about the paternity of the Athena child? How far along is the pregnancy? A lot of manipulation is going on, things are still open. Good theory though.

Just a philosophical reminder procreation and dying are commonly held qualifiers for life by human standards. The cylons are now alive!

  12. “A woman wearing a mans clothes.” That could fit Rosylin or Dualla, the old saying “she wears the pants in the family!”

  13. I like the whole Kalli being the 5th. No one ever seems to be verry interested in her and Cheifs child, and that would crack that whole Thi and 6 having a child.

Or, mayby the whole thing is a future earth videogame and they all wake up from the game at the end. Just a crazy thought.

  14. Good points old man! I hadn’t put together the whole Dualla wearing military attire before! Not sure about Laura though, as suits are more gender neutral, and I believe we may have seen her in a business dress skirt, but I could be wrong on that.

  15. it could go matrix style – their whole existence is for the “final five” to experience mortality/love/betrayal/etc. basically the human condition. visions, prophets, dreams are all the program interfacing with the simulation to move it along to a final point of revelation. kara thrace is indeed going to lead the human race to earth and to their destruction. end simulation.

  16. Well I have to say after seeing the preview for the next episode (spoiler if you havent watched the latest episode yet)–the only char. of importance on the base ship that jumped with roslyn aboard, was Helo. The clip seemed to indicate roslyn that the #3 was speaking to, but could have been spliced. also, i agree with a previous poster that Helo being the final cylon, although not as central a figure as other char’s, makes total sense in terms of the importance of Athena’s & Helo’s child. Or perhaps the child IS the final cylon? Anyway, from the clip showing the #3 talking to somebody as “you dont know youre one of the final 5″–and if its truly not roslyn or baltar–then that seemes to point to Helo.

  17. Well,
If you watch the promo again, you’ll see Adm. Adama has an encounter with cylons, looks like he does make it to the base star….so three might be talking to him…

  18. In a general way a suit can be seen as a uniform.
Their both distinctive, a complete outfit, and they have an identifying look.

I’m beginning to think like some others here that perhaps RDM has been a little coy about the 12th not being at the table already.

  19. The editing of the preview definitely gives you the first impression that it’s the president.. and yes, it seems that Adama makes it to a base star… so it’s coming down to the wire and it looks like we’re about to find out real soon folks.

  20. Old Man: I posted earlier the question if “At the table” meant sitting at the table in a chair, because as you’re starting to wonder, Adama is not “at” the table (As if to partake in dinner) but is sitting on the table.

Then again, all our heads have been messed with by this point in the game.

  21. PETE! You just gave me an interesting insight.

So who in the last few episodes HAS gone through terrible suffering of late?

But then, we have a few candidates for who has suffered greatly.. who are they folks?

  22. Gaeta: the leg
Bill Adama: I think his suffering has been long and now that he has a dying love of his life, its about to get a lot worse when Roslyn “bites it”.
Starbuck: been through a lot, still feels bad about Zak for some reason or another, but it doesn’t feel terribly immediate
Baltar: he’s been through a lot, but it doesn’t feel so recent or immediate. He certainly needs redemption for having helped kill just about everyone

I just don’t see the potential for anyone else than that.

Who is missing from this list that even has the potential in the near future for needing redemption that can only come through pain?

  23. Pete,
Yes. She could well be talking to Sam. She does not know that he knows he is a cylon, so she is saying: “you know about the final five but you don’t know you are one of them” …and then maybe that’s why Roslin is shocked…or maybe her being shocked has nothing to do with this conversation and is just editing diversion.

    Nasim

  24. If you think about it all those characters’ suffering has been ongoing. Adm. Adama is heart sick for so many reasons. Baltar is a pariah with a gossamer thin life. Karah has come back a failure, instead of a clear way to earth she has brought back an even greater burden to whats left of humanity. Roslin visibly has one foot in the grave, yet dying by millimeters. On top of all that there’s enough guilt and angst going around to sink a dozen battlestars. A misery mine, no need to dig deep, just scratch the surface and reap h*ll. “Industrial Desease” to nth degrees.

Bruce you might be the most right of us all however, I think a new character is comming to complicate matters more!

  25. There’s a new one in the mix (Well, not new, but maybe something to consider)

Romo Lampkin, the lawyer, but has he suffered any? I don’t remember his story.

He was hallucinating nicely about this wife’s dead cat that he carried everywhere with him and my wife kept saying the cat was the last Cylon.. Eesh.. then it got me to wondering..

I hate when I start to wonder.. it bottlenecks all my other processes and I literally stop in my tracks…

  26. Was he hallucinating the cat, or was he projecting it… :P

  27. How about Admiral Cain as the last Cylon?

In Razor, the centurion aborted shooting (Helena) Cain at the instant the armistice was signed, supposedly.

It could have been an Anders-like “meeting of the eyes”…

  28. So am I the only one who thinks the final Cylon is Tom Zarek?
