Today comes a ridiculous piece of news that a sequel to the surprise hit comedy, White Chicks, has been given the go-ahead. The Wayans Brothers and Sony are going to be developing the project, with one of the other Wayans brothers, Keenen Ivory Wayans returning to direct the sequel. Keenen, Shawn and Marlon Wayans are writing and producing the movie.
The first White Chicks movie starred Shawn and Marlon as two FBI agents who go undercover and dress up as, you guessed it, white chicks to protect a couple of heiresses (I’ll leave it up to you to discuss the many, many, issues of THAT premise…). The all-important plot of White Chicks 2 (I wouldn’t be surprised if a subtitle gets added to that) is being kept under wraps for the moment. I’m sure that similar to (or rather, the same as) the first one, it will involve Shawn and Marlon putting on make-up again.
As much as it’s groan-inducing to think that they’re making another movie from this premise, from a business point of view it’s not that much of a surprise. White Chicks made over $70 million domestically, and $42 million internationally, from a budget of only $37 million. I’m sure money is the reason for this sequel, as I don’t think there’s much to tell that wasn’t covered in the first one.
I’m unfortunate enough to have seen White Chicks (it was a boring Sunday, and the rental was at hand in my house, if I remember right), and I’ve gotta’ say it’s one lame and stupid comedy. All the obvious (read: stereotypical) gags you could think of – from fart jokes to unfunny gender play – sets it comfortably amongst the Wayans Brothers’ other less-than-funny comedies. The only time I remember laughing was at the Terry Crews dinner table scene where he shows of his massive tongue.
I know, I know….
What do you think of the Wayans Brothers making a sequel to White Chicks?
White Chicks 2 is currently in the pre-production stages and doesn’t have a release date yet.

@jago
which is my point, why wouldn’t anyone have the “grapefruits” to make a movie called black chicks?? Because it will be considered racist, while a movie called white chicks wouldn’t. We live in a ridiculous double standard, just wanted to point that out.
Ken J, your basing your point on the title alone. (Black Chick’s) what’s the plot ??? White guys that go blackface to stop crime ???
The same premise of White Chicks, an excuse to make fun of “white girl” stereotypes. So “Black Chicks” would be a movie with whatever plot that gives the excuse to make fun of “black girl” stereotypes…
@ken j
norbit did that and dance flick as well they just didn’t call it black chicks but they did pick at black girl stereotypes. Matter of fact even within white chicks they do it as well… Not the wayans but the other girl that was marlon’s wife in the movie and her friend. If you think about it you can easily find it in several movies its just that its not called black chicks. I think the wayans took a shot on that one… But who knows maybe someone does it and its not racist(and one day gas will be 29 cents a gallon!!!).
@ Ken J
Man double standards are an every day thing, u can even say its part of the american dream. Did u feel that robert Downy jr’s role was racist or a finally some one with the balls to put on black face again and make an attempt at comedy. I’ll admit I was initially shocked and disgusted by the mere fact black face would be played up as being acceptable, and then I saw Tropic thunder and now own the movie, and yes it still bothers me but not to the point I want to hold a rally and march.
Also I think i remember in one post you stated that you were Asian? correct me if Im wrong. But would the first idea to mind when you see the title Asian chicks and some actors who are not asian dressed up in yellow face portray the stereo types of asian women be OMFG I have to see that? What would u say too some one saying oh its just comedy, or oh some one finally has the balls to do that.
As Im sure plenty of Caucasians were up in arms saying oh that’s racist when White Chicks came out.
The humor in RDJ’s character in Tropic Thunder was not a mockery of black stereotypes, it was the fact that his character was getting too in character to the point where the “real” black person in the movie was like “WTF??”
In White Chicks, it wasn’t the wayan’s brothers themselves that were being mocked, but the “real” white people around them. You see the difference? In Tropic Thunder the only person being mocked for the humor was RDJ’s character, it wasn’t suggested that the “real” black people in the movie does stupid things. Can’t really compare the two.
And you act like Asians being mocked in movies will be a new thing. It’s not even worth debating, the only racism people care about is toward hispanics and blacks. You’ll see racism toward asians even in some commercials that play every hour or more and nobody says a thing because nobody cares. And hell, I wouldn’t care either if it was even and racial jokes can be directed at any race with equal treatment, but that’s not the case…
@ KenJ
Firstly I dont act like asians being mocked in movies is a new thing because it occurs as it will to other races. Secondly the RDJ character was portraying stereotypes (mostly inaccurate) of african americans, this whole too into character trumps your comment about how “real black” people act, movie or not. And sorry but I’ve seem some protests recently about how asians are depicted in film and cinema. It will never be “even” as far as racial joking goes, because of mis information and assumptions all races have of each other.
So I guess we’ll just agree to disagree here.
Uh, yes, but again you’re missing the point. Those inaccurate stereotypes was done by a WHITE AUSTRALIAN guy who thinks he’s black. They didn’t make the “Real” black people in the movie do those things portraying them as real stereotypes. In White Chicks, the people acting out the stereotypes were actual white people, not the brothers. So the movie was trying to say that’s how white people actually are. In Tropic Thunder, the guy who was too into his character kept bringing up the stereotypes, and the “real” black character in the movie called him out on them a few times in the movie, so obviously the movie was overtly saying that his actions were inaccurate stereotypes…
Any of this getting through??
Omg! CAN’T WAIT! I LOVED THE FIRST MOVIE! all of you don’t have a sense of humor…
@Tiffany
It’s not an issue of our sense of humor. I’m sure some of the jokes are funny, but then again, racial jokes ARE funny most of the time, does that mean they should be used in movies without any criticism?
i thought the first one was great to be honest
haha , are you guys crazzzy?
I freakin love that movie!
I cant wait for White chicks 2!<3
BS… this comedy is one of the best I’ve ever seen in my life! it was amazing!!!
Who cares! I’m black and i know a lot of my white friends (including chicks) loved that movie. It’s something different than any other comedy you see everyday, seriously who could ever come up with the idea of two black guys dressing up as white girls to solve a crime; that was just pure gold i loved that movie.
And seriously stop with all this racism thing that crap is over this is the 20th century, plus there’s been a lot of white movies like for instance “Malibu’s most wanted” a white guy acting black and “Soul plane” where a little white boy acts black (both those movies were made before White Chicks). Watch them there hilarious! this is all just comedy if you still big on the racism thing then boy you stuck in the past, this is the future you better recognize that things have changed
Why are so many film critics so up their own arses? This film is very funny and most people I know loved it too. Can’t wait for part 2. Now go and get a sense of humour implant…
Film critics piss me off sometimes, get over it. Movie was hilarious one of my favs, could watch it a thousand times!
WHITE CHICKS WAS FREAKING AWESOME. When i was in school had a mate that I showed this movie to. I actually received a copy 4 months before it was official released in AUS. By the time me an him had watched it, we knew every line, by heart. SAD AS it may seem I was only 16, at that time I think I would have watched it at least 40times (no exaggeration) Me and him could probably quote it perfectly now.
When others were starting to quote it we knew all of it. To the point where me and my friend grabbed flour from the school kitchen (had access to) because we were the highest graded in our class. Walk to our friends table and said in unison “Your mothers so old, her breast milk is powdered, You breast feed like this”" and blow flour over them. THIS FILM CHANGED MY LIFE from depressing to funny.
DONT DISS WHITE CHICKS
1 of the funniest films I have ever seen and laughed all the way throughout as the wayan brothers are just wicked, please please please please hurry up with White chicks 2. If u dont find the first film funny u must b totally boring and a lack of humour.
This is the best movie ever i dont know what youre talking about
I agree that you should get a sense of humour and the whole idea of this movie was stereotypical humour of people of two different races. If you didn’t like this and thought the movie was racist after just reading the title, you shouldn’t have wasted your time watching it.
