Although the series concluded in 2015, Josh Hutcherson is probably still best known for playing Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games movies. As one of the most successful teen dystopian franchises of its time, The Hunger Games catapulted all of its stars, including Hutcherson, to instant fame on a scale many of them hadn't had before. Unsurprisingly, this hasn't been the end of the road for the actor in the seven years since.

Before The Hunger Games, Hutcherson had a fairly deep resume of roles as a child actor and young adult, the most notable of which was probably the infamously tragic Bridge to Terabithia, in which Leslie's death leaves a deep impression on Jess, Hutcherson's character, in the end. With such an emotionally nuanced role already under his belt at a young age, it's no surprise that Hutcherson went on to score big parts in such recognizable films as The Kids Are All Right and the Journey to the Center of the Earth movies between 2008 and 2012. Of course, his biggest break and most significant role to date came with The Hunger Games in 2013 when he first played Peeta Mellark.

While a multi-feature blockbuster project like The Hunger Games can cast a long shadow, Hutcherson has still been active in the years since. His more recent roles may not be as high-profile or competitive as Peeta Mellark, which almost cast actors as big as Liam Hemsworth and Lucas Till, but it's likely that this is exactly what Hutcherson needed (and wanted) after several years under an enormous spotlight. He's done a variety of projects since The Hunger Games, all with different degrees of acclaim. Arguably, Hutcherson's biggest project in recent years was the Hulu series Future Man, which ran from 2017-2020. For three seasons he played protagonist Josh Futturman, who uses his gaming skills to help save the world in an apocalyptic future. However, the actor has also made several other major appearences.

Another significant appearance came with The Disaster Artist in 2017, in which Hutcherson plays Philip Haldiman playing Denny, the young neighbor, in The Room. While it's not necessary to see The Room before watching The Disaster Artist, it is interesting to see how well Hutcherson brings the character of Denny to life. In addition to these more recognizable parts, Hutcherson also had a lead role as Billy in the 2019 indie crime thriller Burn, and as Ricco in a TV movie adaptation of the Danish show Rita. He also voiced the eponymous protagonist in the children's animated film, Elliot the Littlest Reindeer, in 2018, and voices the lead in the English audio version of Netflix's Ultraman anime.

As for what's next for Hutcherson, the upcoming indie drama Across the River and Into the Trees, which is an adaptation of Hemingway's novel of the same name, will see him star alongside Liev Schreiber and Danny Huston. This seems to be his film type of choice in the seven years after The Hunger Games ended, which have also seen him in the James Franco productions In Dubious Battle and The Long Home, adaptations of John Steinbeck and William Gay novels, respectively. Though these types of projects aren't as glamorous as The Hunger Games, they've offered Josh Hutcherson the opportunity to do the kind of slower-paced, more grounded acting work that he was known for as a kid, which is probably better in the long run.
