Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Werewolf by Night!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has several new heroes thanks to Werewolf by Night, and here is what could come next for Jack Russell, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing. After Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios made a concentrated effort to introduce a plethora of new characters to the MCU in Phase 4. Whether it was in the movies or on Disney+, the plans for the Multiverse Saga have already indicated how some of these new characters will play major roles in what is to come. Werewolf by Night could be another example of the MCU introducing prominent heroes who can play key roles in the future.

Even though the Disney+ Special Presentation is less than an hour long, Marvel used the runtime effectively to introduce Jack Russell, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing. Werewolf by Night's ending wraps up the main story at play, but it also leaves the door open for Marvel Studios to use each of them again. It does not set up what will come next for these characters as directly as other MCU projects. Instead, Marvel Studios leaves itself with greater flexibility to figure out how to best use the supernatural heroes. The question is when and where Werewolf by Night, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing will return, not if it will happen. Here is what could come next for Werewolf by Night's characters in the MCU.

Werewolf By Night’s Heroes Could Return In Blade

Werewolf by Night Elsa Bloodstone Laura Donnelly

The first opportunity for Werewolf by Night's heroes to return is likely the MCU's Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali. The film has been in development for several years and is expected to be a big part of Marvel pushing the supernatural world forward. Blade will do this by bringing vampires to the forefront of its story and exploring their history within the MCU. Since Blade is a vampire hunter, his movie could be a natural spot for Elsa Bloodstone to return. Her vampire-hunting skills are not outright confirmed in Werewolf by Night, but she does tease that she is used to hunting another type of monster. Now that she has the Bloodstone to make her even more powerful, Elsa Bloodstone could return in Blade to allow Laura Donnelly and Mahershala Ali to team up for a vampire-killing mission.

Depending on how far Blade dives into the supernatural corner of the MCU, Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing could also potentially fit into the story. Jack and Ted are presented as being a bit more of loners, but Werewolf by Night does confirm that it is not uncommon for one of them to have to save the other from various situations. Their past and future adventures could certainly include running into vampires and having an encounter with Blade. There is comic precedence for Blade teaming up with Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing too, so Marvel Studios could draw upon the source material to give audiences a glimpse at a live-action crossover.

Werewolf By Night’s Characters Set Up Midnight Sons

The Midnight Sons assemble in Marvel Comics.

It has long been theorized that Marvel Studios could be building towards the formation of the Midnight Sons to give the supernatural corner of the MCU its own Avengers-type team. The speculation continued to mount as Marvel introduced characters like Moon Knight and Blade, as well as seeing Doctor Strange and Wong's MCU roles continue to be elevated. Werewolf by Night's characters joining the universe is another potential move in that direction. Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and Elsa Bloodstone have each been members of the Midnight Sons in the comics. If Elsa Bloodstone returns in Blade as theorized, this would be even more set up for the MCU's Midnight Sons team forming. Marvel Studios could even use the Bloodstone Manor as the new base of operations for the team.

There are currently no confirmed plans for a Midnight Sons MCU movie or TV show. With Marvel Studios already announcing most of the Multiverse Saga plans, it is unclear when such a team-up project could happen. It would make more sense that Marvel would make this a movie due to the ensemble cast of characters it could feature, such as Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone, Blade, Moon Knight, Black Knight, Wong, Doctor Strange, and Scarlet Witch. There are only a few release dates open in Phase 6 still, but the lack of official signs that a Midnight Sons movie is in development means it might be years away from happening. For that reason, audiences might have to wait to see Werewolf by Night's characters in a Midnight Sons team until Phase 7 or later.

Will Werewolf By Night, Man-Thing, & Elsa Return In Secret Wars?

Scarlet witch wandavision man thing

The big question for Werewolf by Night's characters is whether any of them will return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. As the two-part epic finale of Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga, it is expected that just about every character will appear. This could mean Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and Elsa Bloodstone will return in Avengers: Secret Wars. Of the three characters, Man-Thing is the one who might be the most likely to appear. Although it is not explored in Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing is the guardian of the Nexus of All Realities, a gateway to other dimensions and realities, in the comics. This makes Man-Thing one of the most important characters in the multiverse, especially as far as Earth-616 is concerned. If he has the same responsibilities in the MCU, Man-Thing could be key to Kang's plan in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Due to the crossover potential for Avengers: Secret Wars and the odds of these characters appearing elsewhere before, it would not be surprising if Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone also found roles in the multiverse adventure. Neither of them would likely play major roles in the story, but the movie's scope is expected to be even bigger than Avengers: Endgame. That movie managed to include just about every major MCU character established at that time, including Howard the Duck. With the possibility of universes colliding into one another and having to fight an army created by Kang, the MCU will need any and all available heroes to aid in fighting him. Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone should join Man-Thing then in being part of the solution. This could help establish them as more integral parts of the MCU, possibly even laying the foundation for the Midnight Sons crossover if it has not happened already.
