Wes Anderson’s next film is an animated take on Roald Dahl’s classic Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I gotta say, I’m very excited! I’m a huge fan of Anderson (Rushmore is in my top 10 favorite films of all time), and it looks like this Fox Searchlight movie has an incredible cast, led by George Clooney as the title character.
Adapted by Anderson and co-writer Noah Baumbach (whose Kicking and Screaming is a classic 1990’s indie film), the story follows Mr. Fox as he takes a meal every night from one of three farmers to feed his family. The farmers decide to team up to take down Mr. Fox.

It does seem a little bit odd that Anderson is doing an animated film as his follow-up to , but it does make sense. Harry Selick (classic animator behind Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and many others) provided the stop-motion sea animals in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Though Selick couldn’t work on Mr. Fox, he did help with early development.
The voice actors include a who’s who of Anderson regulars: Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Adrian Brody, Anjelica Huston, and more. Meryl Streep stepped in as Mrs. Fox when Cate Blanchett left. Anderson, a “complete filmmaker” (one who is in total control of all aspects of production), even recorded voices outside the studio, such as in a forest and a stable.
JoBlo.com premiered the first image of Mr. and Mrs. Fox and I gotta say, I’m even more excited! I really hope Anderson’s first animated movie is a winner. I’m sure he’s been able to add his “signature” style to the film. A trailer should be coming soon.

Are you at all excited like I am for Anderson’s first animated film? It’s got a fantastic creative team and a cast that any director would dream to have in their film. Fantastic Mr. Fox opens November 13, 2009.

Same here Heath, I am also a fan of Wes’ work.
I even have all of his films on Criterion, there’s this quirkiness about his films which I really enjoy.
Yeah, Rushmore rules, Murray owned that film.
I own all the Criterion’s, too, which I think is how all his films have been released (except Darjeeling and originally Bottle Rocket, which is now on Criterion).
I love Criterion films.

Yeah Heath, Criterion is the best if you are serious about film although you have to question them when it came to Armageddon being a Criterion release. I can understand The Rock because that was an extraordinary film even the biggest Bay hater will agree that The Rock was a good movie.
I dug both films and would like to get them both on Criterion. They did the best RoboCop release but all subsequent DVD releases had the unrated version and the same special features.

Honestly, Criterion should do a re-release Hard Boiled and The Killer. I missed getting them on criterion release back in the day. Agree with RoboCop release. I have the Blu-Ray release of Chungking Express, BEAUTIFUL TRANSFER and film!
Heath, have you seen their release of Robinson Crusoe on Mars? I see it at my best-buy and heavily tempted to purchase it. If you have, great recommendation?
