While Wes Anderson’s films are always, in my opinion, incredibly enjoyable (even at their worst), there’s no doubt that they tend to overlap both stylistically and thematically. Indeed, his films almost always involve daddy issues, family problems, 1960s sensibilities, and dry hilarity. (Also, Bill Murray -- though maybe those last two things are synonymous.)

Wes Anderson’s next film, Moonrise Kindgom, is currently shooting in Rhode Island and looks to share at least some of the same themes, actors, and sensibilities of previous Anderson films. Today comes word that Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to the film. Additionally, we have the film’s full synopsis.

The cast of Moonrise Kingdom now includes frequent Anderson collaborators Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, as well as newcomers Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and the stars of the film – a young boy and girl who fall in love – Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Bruce Willis plays the town sheriff; two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton is cast as a camp leader; Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents; the cast also includes Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. The young boy and girl are played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

I have to say, I’m incredibly excited to see what Wes Anderson ends up doing with Bruce Willis and Frances McDormand, especially opposite Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman. Willis obviously began his career on the comedic side of things (Moonlighting), but he rarely makes comedies anymore, and it's even rarer that they are any good (Cop Out).

While some people were disappointed by The Darjeeling Limited, I’ve yet to be disappointed by a single Wes Anderson film – except maybe The Life Aquatic, but only because I had dreams of it being the second coming of Bill Murray films. Moonrise Kindgom, like all Anderson films before it, will definitley be one of my most highly anticipated films of the year.

Moonrise Kingdom hits theaters in 2012.
