Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Werewolf by Night!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is ready for the Midnight Sons after Werewolf by Night, so Marvel Studios really needs to figure out Blade now. When Kevin Feige announced Mahershala Ali would play Blade in the MCU in 2019, fans were elated with the prospect of the vampire hunter joining the franchise. Three years later, the closest audiences have come to meeting Blade is hearing his voice in Eternals' post-credits. This has not stopped speculation from running rampant that Blade's MCU debut will lead to the creation of the Midnight Sons and give the franchise a supernatural Avengers team with him in a major role.

Marvel's Midnight Sons plans are ready to happen now after Werewolf by Night. The Disney+ Special Presentation brings more supernatural characters to the MCU. It is through Werewolf by Night that audiences were introduced to Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), and Man-Thing (Carey Jones). All three of these supernatural characters are likely to be part of a Midnight Sons team if one forms in the MCU. But it is also Werewolf by Night's horror tone that is good news for a Midnight Sons team-up, as it shows Marvel Studios is willing to go to some darker places. With several supernatural characters introduced and a blueprint for a horror MCU project now in place, all Midnight Sons needs is for Marvel to figure out what is happening with Mahershala Ali's Blade.

Blade Is The MCU’s Missing Piece For Midnight Sons

Blend of Blade, Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night

When looking at the MCU landscape for a potential Midnight Sons team, Werewolf by Night's release proves that Mahershala Ali's Blade is the only missing piece to its formation. Marvel has already fully introduced Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) and has various sorcerers who could join the team. Werewolf by Night alone adds three characters who will likely be part of the team. Black Knight might have had a smaller role than expected in Eternals, but teases that the Ebony Blade is linked to vampirism further connect him to a potential Midnight Sons team. His possible place on the roster only makes Blade's role all the more necessary.

In order for Marvel Studios to make a Midnight Sons movie or just assemble the team, Blade's place in the MCU must be figured out. The tease of him in Eternals was thought to be a sign that Marvel had a clear vision for his story, but the development problems for Blade continue to mount and raise concern. Marvel Studios could always attempt to make a Midnight Sons team without him, but leaving Blade off the Midnight Sons team would only be another sign of Marvel's struggles to figure out a place for him in the MCU. He deserves a spot on the team, and Blade's turbulent development is likely one of the reasons why Marvel Studios has yet to announce plans for the supernatural Avengers team.

Werewolf By Night Makes Marvel’s Blade Issues Worse

Werewolf By Night Reviews

The wait for Midnight Sons will extend through the MCU's Blade movie, but the delayed production and other troubles Marvel is facing only look worse after Werewolf by Night. The Disney+ Special Presentation shows how thrilling Marvel's more horror-centric projects can be even without an R-rating. Blade's release next year could give the MCU another major win with horror, but the movie's director leaving and production being delayed makes the 2023 release look less likely. Now, audiences are even more excited than ever for MCU horror content thanks to Werewolf by Night, but Blade's issues mean they are left in the dark about when the next one will come.
