Weinstein Co. Wants New Pitches for Halloween 3D

Halloween 3D shuts down production

Back in September, Screen Rant shared news that Halloween 3D, the third film in the new Halloween franchise, was dead in the water. At the time, word from The Weinstein Company was that the film was coming together too fast and they wanted to take more time on creating a movie that was not only good, but bankable. Now, we’ve gotten word from Bloody-Disgusting that Halloween 3D might be back on its feet, but not necessarily with the same writer or director on board.

According to BD, The Weinstein Company is actively seeking new pitches for the film and the franchise in general. While this doesn’t necessarily exclude the previous writer and director duo of Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier (who collaborated on My Bloody Valentine 3D) from being a part of the film, it definitely calls their involvement into question. While Farmer and Lussier wait it out, they are keeping plenty busy working on the action revenge flick, Drive Angry (3D), which stars Nicolas Cage.

If you were totally gung-ho about Farmer and Lussier, this news may be somewhat upsetting. Remember, of course, that there’s a good chance the duo will still be involved. Right now, I suspect Weinstein Co. is just feeling its options out and making sure that they have something solid before rushing into production (which is a smart move in a weak economy). If anything, hardcore horror fans should look on the bright side. At least you know that the Weinsteins haven’t forgotten about Michael Myers.

Speaking of old Mikey, since Weinstein Co. is looking for new pitches anyway, let’s open up this debate to all of you loyal Screen Rant readers. Where should the Halloween franchise go next? If you could pitch your version of Halloween 3D, would it be similar to the original Halloween 3? If you’ll recall the original series, Halloween 3: Season of the Witch actually had nothing to do with Michael Myers. I definitely do not think that’s the right decision, but that’s just one man’s opinion. What do you think?

  1. Heres my pitch, stop making remakes and get some writers in who have a god damned imagination and come up with something original.

    This remake nonsense really gets on my nerves!

  2. Zombie ruined the franchise with his remakes. The Weinsteins need to quit trying to line their pockets with bad remakes and move on to originals. The movie industry and us, as viewers, could do fine with a lot less films made each year. Why not focus on doing something original and quit b@stardizing the classics.

    I know that there’s some irony in my comment considering Carpenter made most of his films for exactly that reason: $$$
    But they were still great films and they’re being ruined.

    And for the record, I loved Season of the Witch.

  3. While I would like to see a remake of Season Of The Witch – even if the original was cheese classic, it could be improved. But who is kidding who? We know Weinsteins want to hear about how to get The Shape back in the game.

    First, we must keep in mind that the new Halloween would stem off from Zombie’s two pictures, and not be a continuation of Resurrection. That said… where do we go from here? Oh that’s right…there IS NO PLACE TO GO FROM HERE.

    Not unless:

    * Loomis has guilt over his exploiting the Myers and Strodes;

    * Laurie/Angel is getting better at the psych ward, but there is a question of whether or not she will have another breakdown and put on her brother’s mask again;

    * The body of Michael Myers is still missing;

    * New murders in Hattonfield are being reported on Devil’s Night/Halloween;

    * Ben Meeker is the new sherriff (we take on a few elements of ‘Halloween 4′)

    * When we see the real Michael Myers, he has his OLD mask again. Or at least the one of ‘Halloween 4′. He is also more of his old Shape self. Walk included.

    * The Michael Myers seen at the end of the first film was actually a copycat impostor….?

    Hey, don’t look at me, I just want ‘em to know…you got to go nuts and risk lame explanations for the sake of profits

    There is nothing new here.
    Cow’s dead, you can’t squeeze the teat. We’re out of milk.

  4. i would like to see the series continue from part 6. i thought they had a real good story going there… if not, then back to the original part 3 where mike isn’t involved. might as well start it fresh…

  5. I agree that Zombie has def tainted the Halloween series. Considering these last 2 Halloween projects were considered “re-imaginations” and not remakes, I think this leaves open an opportunity to take the story back to the original series.

    I really cannot fathom Michael Myers going out and marketed as someone who grew up in a trailer trash lifestyle habiting aspects of every other typical real life serial killer (hurting animals, mental abuse, bullied at school, etc.) The series was much more enjoyable when you didnt know what drove him to kill nor was there any reason to kill in the first place, that’s what made Halloween erie.

  6. I’m back!

    And I know the answer!

    Okay, we will remake Season Of The Witch, but instead of having Conal Cochran’s wind up henchmen, we find out that he’s stolen the Myers body, made it into a robot and robot Myers will know knock off all those who get in the Druid toymaker’s way. Laurie/Angel is released from the funny farm, looks for a new job and finds one at the Silver Shamrock. She will run into her revived brother and discover Cochran’s wicked scheme, with the little chips in the backs of masks that will cause children’s brains to turn into snakes, worms and slime. Hey, watching too much TVee will do that, ‘y’know. She’ll try to warn folks, but she’s a nut.

    Her brother, also a nut (and now a bolt) is after her once more.

    SEE WIENSTIENS????
    I did it!
    I did it!
    I – DID – IT!

    I have substituted the cow for a goat; you will now get feta cheese.

  7. Continue after Halloween 2 have Laurie making a lot of progress in the mental institution and them eventually letting her out becuase they no longer think that she is crazy… Skip foreward to the next Halloween (Laurie has been in the institution for a little over a year) Laurie has a steady job, her own place, and a boyfriend. And she has just found out that she is pregnant (with Jamie). And she knows the Michael is still alive and he is going to come for her. On Halloween he does. Make him killing people and trying to get to his sister to kill her. Don’t care were you go from there as long as in the end Laurie and Jamie live and Laurie does NOT fake her death and leave Jamie to fend for herself I always hated Lauries character for that.

  8. I think the reason they want pitches is because their original idea likely consisted of Laurie Strode somewhere, but the unrated, director’s cut has been leaked and SPOILERS:

    Laurie Strode is killed at the end, and the white hallway with the deborah/horse scene is more of Laurie’s last vision before she dies.

    So even though it’s only the director’s cut, they probably figure people are too stupid to understand whether they let the theatrical version be canonical and hvae likely scrapped any ideas involving Laurie Strode.
    Anyway, here’s a small idea:
    Since it’s 3-D, maybe just do the first one again but stick with only the very basic storyline the original had: a mental patient escapes from an insane asylum and returns to his old hometown to go on a killing spree, consisting of babysitters. Drop the sister storyline, which was retconned in Halloween 2, and just make your basic slasher consisting of high school seniors being murdered save for the virgin who fights back with her sexual frustration. Don’t use any original names except for michael meyers. it’ll just be a fun slasher flick that brings back the times of the original.

  9. There is nothing that can be done. It’s finished. The reason these movies started being horrible was the paranormal aspect of it. That Michael couldn’t die. I don’t want to see a slasher movie where the killer can be shot a billion times and not die. What’s the point in fighting a character like that? You’re never going to win, so why even bother? It’s a little bit ridiculous to think they honestly can make a third movie and make it logical. Unless they say Michael wasn’t really killed there at the end, but that’s still pushing it. Two movies in which we think he’s dead but turns out to only have a boo-boo is pushing it.

    There is nothing that can be done here. Don’t make another movie, it’s not going to work.

  10. EXCEPT- Mike Meyers is brought back to life by a descendant of Frankenstein! Yeah, Yeah…

  11. Redo the whole thing again. I dont mind Zombies films but they are over. Finito. No where to go.

  12. Man this movie can kiss my ass..and all you putos that love Halloween..Got fet up with the remakes You know what im saying..piece out mates

  13. I say the hell with the sequels and remakes! I think they should bring the original(Halloween 1978) to theaters in 3d as a treat for all the die hard fans!

  14. A 17 year old boy, star quarterback of the Haddonfield high school football team, physically strong (resembling Michael Myers’ size), handsome, perfect upbringing, mysteriously falls into a coma. He wakes up catatonic, unresponsive, and numb…yet can eat and sleep when necessary. A local priest who is a family friend of the boy believes he is possessed by a spirit of some sort…this same priest recently has performed the funeral session for Laurie Strode (who dies in the directors cut version). The body of Michael Myers’ has been stolen from a Morg but there are no leads as to who may have taken it…

    This is just one example of a jumpstart but I’d say intertwine H3 with a little mystery, horror, and story depth to keep everyone guessing so it becomes more then just the same old Michael Myers slasher flick we’ve seen 9000 times, already. I think that’s the angle the Weinsteins should go for whilst making a bankable 3D movie.

  15. I like the idea of having laurie pregnant with Jamie but, I would go in a different direction with the idea. Have laurie send Jamie to the Correthers family at end just so it can make sense with the original cannon. Another idea is trying to bridge the connection between halloween 6 and H20. I like both ideas cause they could go places where the series has never gone if done by the right people.

  16. Zombie’s Halloween 2 pretty well wrapped up the whole thing. Obviously, he doesn’t really want the series to go on. Having said that, I wudn’t mind another one, especially since the Weinsteins actually care about making a great sequel. My pitch would be this. We get a new character, fresh meat, to center on. She isa journalist interested in the whole ordeal. She visits Laurie in the assylum and tries to get the hard facts out of her, however Laurie’s still insane and much like Michael. Michael is supposedly dead and burried but it turns out the body burried was Loomis’s and Michael still walks free. Mchael returns to Haddonfield on Halloween and our journalist is stuck in the middle of it all. Laurie breaks out and joins up with journalist. Journalist isn’t sure whether Laurie will save her or kill her. Get a great director with a feel for classic style horror and a strong female actress for the lead and boom, you have a truly gr8 follow up to Zombie’s films.

  17. They should act like Zombies Halloween 2 never happened and it was just a dream and continue from 1. Or they could just restart it again. ROB ZOMBIE SHOULD NEVER BE HIRED TO MAKE MOVIES AGAIN!!!!!

  18. my pitch is well its way to long to say…
    lol!

  19. no one gets it…..its not H3,my sources have said its a new take,a new story,not even involving laurie,its like H4…..but its called halloween…in 3d= H3D

    it only has michael and the rest are fresh characters

  20. H3 should set itself inbetween the original H2 and H4, and follow Laurie and Loomis or just Loomis and Marion. Also, Michael should actually make a new mask, similar though. The movie should centre around the Michael who is trying to find and kill Jamie, as well as Laurie. Then it should end with another explosion of some sort and really immobilize but make Michael come back in the original sequels.

  21. To start Halloween 3D shouldn’t have nothing to do with anything with the original Hallowen 3. It should be a new entry to the series with some of the elements of the older films. It should ignore what happens in Resurection. In this film, Lauries son John learns that after the showdown between Michael and his mother both disappear and later confirms that Laurie has died and Michael is nowhere to be found. John marries Tommy Doyles daughter(played by Danielle Harris). Traveling back to his mothers hometown of Haddonfield, John meets elderley people and friends of his mother. In Haddonfield, an injured and half way dead Michael Myers appears and is after his nephew. After John marries Jennifer(Harris) they leave Haddonfield for a vacation and Michael attacks and kills Tommy. John and Jennifer come back to Haddonfield on October 29th. Lindsay who was also witnessed Michael attack Laurie in the orginal Halloween tells Jennifer her father has been murdered by an unidentified person. John quickly assumes it is his uncle that killed Jennifers father but she tells John that Michael Myers has died along with his mother and hasn’t been seen since 1998. John begins to have nightmares, stress, and panic. On October 30th marks the release of a movie that is based on Michael Myers and his attempts to murder his sister Laurie Strode. Jennifer takes John to see the movie and allows John to see the what he calls the ”truth” about his family. While there at the movie Michael begins his reunion with his hometown with a series of violent murders who no one can find a suspect to link them to. After the movie John decides to watch the movie for a second time alone and tells his wife to go home. When Jennifer arrives to the house she finds two tombstones planted in their front yard. She then tries to call John but gets no answer and she is soon confronted by The Shape. Suffering a stab in the back. Michael believes she is dead but Jennifer is being held at Haddonfield Meomorial Hospital. After John leaves te movies he is contacted by Shariff Brackett and learns of his uncles infamous return and his wifes attack. John reaches the hospital and hears his wife is still alive after the attack and spends the night with her at the hospital. John remembers the time his mother told him about Michael attacking her at the same hospital that his wife is being held and falls back to sleep. The next day Halloween John goes back to his house and finds the two tombstones his wife saw and is preparing to kill his uncle with the help of Shariff Brackett. The old Myers home is now somewhat of a tourist attraction and partyhouse for the teens of Haddonfield High School Michael kills six students taht were preparing the party and meets one gothic student that has escaped Smiths Grove Sanitarium for murder. The teen who says Michael influenced him to kill is sent to finish Jennifer later that night. Michael is on a murderous streak while the teen is on his way to the hospital. The teen reaches Jennifers room and attempts the murder but is killed by Jennifer who hid a pistol in her panties. The final showdown includes Shariff Brackett, John, and The Shape. They bait Michael in the house where he attacked Laurie in the original Halloween. Brackett who visciously attacks Michael with a pump shotgun is killed and now its just him and John. They fight violently and John is stabbed in the ribs. While on the ground John shhots Michael in the knee and finishes Michael by shooting him in the head twice with shotgun Brackett was using. Hope you guys pick this story and use it in Halloween 3D.

  22. I RECENTLY WATCHED THE DIRECTOR'S CUT OF HALLOWEEN II AND DURING THE COMMENTARY, ROB TALKS ABOUT THE ALTERNATE ENDING WITH THE MENTAL HOSPITAL SAYING:LAURIE WASNT REALLY IN AN ASYLUM,SHE WAS HALUCINATING AS SHE LAYED THERE DYING. IN MY VERSION OF H3D,LAURIE IS ALIVE AND HOSPITALIZED. MICHAEL IS ALIVE AS WELL AND HE STALKS LAURIE AGAIN.

  23. I think that Halloween 3 for one thing should not be in 3D. Some movies are good and thrilling for 3D but not Halloween. I also think that it should not be like the original, Michael Meyers should be the main character and the killer. I just hope whatever the Weinstein Brothers do will be a hit!

  24. I actually agree with some of these guys too..Redo the whole series over again from scratch:)

  25. my pitch is this, go back to the original story line. those were the best. halloween the curse of micheal myers was great. go off of that story line. zombies first halloween was awesome but he killed the whole story in the second one. micheal was scarier when it was the evil that was driving him not mommy deariest. Go back to the whole thorn symbol and the evil that has possessed him since he was a little boy. those were the good ones

  26. my pitch is this, go back to the original story line. those were the best. halloween the curse of micheal myers was great. go off of that story line. zombies first halloween was awesome but he killed the whole story in the second one. micheal was scarier when it was the evil that was driving him not mommy deariest. Go back to the whole thorn symbol and the evil that has possessed him since he was a little boy. those were the good ones

  27. The movie starts in the shed without the paranormal mother and young Michael. Laurie still believes someone is holding her. She snaps out of it when Loomis makes an attempt to drag her to safety. Michael swiftly encounters and grabs Laurie himself in an effort to retain his sister. Loomis lets go and bashes Michael with a heavy object. Laurie makes a break for it when Michael grabs Loomis by the throat. Using the last of his abilities to fend of Michael, he nearly blacks out until a sniper shot frees him briefly. When Michael goes to retrieve his knife, Loomis manages to escape. Upon spotting a gas tank right outside the shed, Loomis gives the order to blow Michael up. He busts through the door just as the shed explodes.

    Michael, thought to be dead, is in a coma. His body is processed back to Smith’s Grove. Laurie, also being held there is later released. Over time she slowly comes to and decides to have a baby. Michael is secretly given the death penalty and faces execution. The story is leaked and becomes a media frenzy. Loomis, having backflashes of his latest encounter with his former patient has a life-threatening heart attack. Laurie’s mental link with her brother pays a big toll. One night, she has a dream of her mother begging her to continue Michael’s legacy. She begins her decline and goes through a stage of drug abuse. Her nightmares continue and even get worse. As a result, she acts out one of her violent hallucinations, accidentally killing the father of whom she conceived a child with.

    In fear of going to prison or possibly replacing her notorious brother at Smith’s Grove, Laurie eludes the authorities and gives her child up for adoption. She then takes the form of Angel Meyers and goes on a killing spree of her own. Her next few victims are totally random as she is stuck between a world of good and evil. Probed by images of blood and gore Laurie struggles to stay level headed and finally reaches out to Dr. Loomis who agrees to meet her in private. She tells Loomis of her episodes, and uses his help to figure out that it is Michael’s own inner demon that possessed her. She recalls a dream where young Michael warned his younger sister that she too could have easily become one of his victims. Instead, he makes an offer, much like that of his mother, for Laurie to carry out his legacy and the family name. Laurie takes Loomis’ word that he will not turn her and spends the night with him. In the late hours she comes to the conclusion that she will still be punished for her crimes and vanishes off into the night when Loomis falls asleep.

    The movie ends with Michael waking while being transported to be executed. He takes note of his sister’s disappearance and her leaving a young Jamie Lloyd behind in the process. Some believe she ran her old boyfriend’s car off a cliff. An alternate story says she skipped town and changed her identity.

  28. Go back to the original from one to eight bring back peole like tommy or the baby fix all the loose ends between all the series. I would work for pennies to do.this film right make a final goodbye with all cast from old moves. Let’s not mess this film up again. Btw who ever is the new movie watch all the old movies back to back hell even call john carpenter. Lol

  29. Wow my auto type is messed up sorry for the typos
