michael myers disappointed Weinstein Co. Wants New Pitches for Halloween 3D

Back in September, Screen Rant shared news that Halloween 3D, the third film in the new Halloween franchise, was dead in the water. At the time, word from The Weinstein Company was that the film was coming together too fast and they wanted to take more time on creating a movie that was not only good, but bankable. Now, we’ve gotten word from Bloody-Disgusting that Halloween 3D might be back on its feet, but not necessarily with the same writer or director on board.

According to BD, The Weinstein Company is actively seeking new pitches for the film and the franchise in general. While this doesn’t necessarily exclude the previous writer and director duo of Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier (who collaborated on My Bloody Valentine 3D) from being a part of the film, it definitely calls their involvement into question. While Farmer and Lussier wait it out, they are keeping plenty busy working on the action revenge flick, Drive Angry (3D), which stars Nicolas Cage.

If you were totally gung-ho about Farmer and Lussier, this news may be somewhat upsetting. Remember, of course, that there’s a good chance the duo will still be involved. Right now, I suspect Weinstein Co. is just feeling its options out and making sure that they have something solid before rushing into production (which is a smart move in a weak economy). If anything, hardcore horror fans should look on the bright side. At least you know that the Weinsteins haven’t forgotten about Michael Myers.

Speaking of old Mikey, since Weinstein Co. is looking for new pitches anyway, let’s open up this debate to all of you loyal Screen Rant readers. Where should the Halloween franchise go next? If you could pitch your version of Halloween 3D, would it be similar to the original Halloween 3? If you’ll recall the original series, Halloween 3: Season of the Witch actually had nothing to do with Michael Myers. I definitely do not think that’s the right decision, but that’s just one man’s opinion. What do you think?

  1. I think it should start with jaimes baby which survived in curse of micheal myers. Or what happen to lori son in h20 were did he go.

    • i just posted the same idea were on the same page to bring the franchise back to greatness

  2. Halloween 3 to me was very boring. Stick with what works

  3. For the the new Halloween film I do not want it as the original Halloween 3, I want to see the first H3 movie with Michael myers this movie will be the never seen before. Michael myers fan >:)

  4. its simple he was burned in 2 then in a burn treatment facility in part 4.so basically part 4 is 3 so continue off after resurrection jamies baby is alive from part 6 what happened to the baby after that.use that angle.bring back josh hartnett and michell williams.he finds his nephew (jamies baby)they go face to face with michael

  5. Mmmmmmmm they should actually watch all the originals and fill in blanks like where the baby n tommy Doyle? Go back original bring back old cast end the original. Rob zombie should never been allowed to stop from the original storyline n make everything about his wife I did like his 1 st movie tho. So film company call me I tell u how NOT to ruin Halloween……

  6. No offense to anybody that wants to continue with an old storyline but its time to forget about them, the whole thorn thing was stupid from the beginning and should have been dumped after 5. Michaels feet are stuck in this foul smelling mud. thinking he could be controlled never worked for me. Halloween was always about Michael Audrey Myers and everybody else is just in his movies. H78 was a very simple and smart movie that worked because of the suspense, good acting(rip Donald) and the shape and his business face.(seriously that god damn mask is the reason I lost out on my childhood sleep) It’s time to go another road and mix in the things that made the first one so great with fresh ideas and almost like a comic book feel to the next film, don’t overexpose Michael, stalking kills, darkness, and god damn bring back the original mask. check this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZECC-f1CKU

  7. use jamies baby from halloween 6. Have the baby be 9 years old. Then watch halloween 4 and use that as the new story in the new film but better. And have the silver shamrock commercial make a cameo

  8. have michael wear a white mask like in the original. use jamies baby form halloween 6. let the baby be 9 years old

  9. I think the franchise has to continue from the end of the original H2. Since we didn’t get a true sequel to H2, it needs to pick up where H2 left off. I also think some element of H6 needs to be involved, particularly a source of evil attributed to Michael’s unstoppable force.

My rough synopsis is as follows:

As a result of the explosion at the hospital, Dr. Loomis is clinging to life. He’s rushed to the hospital where his son John, at his bedside, is told the secrets his father knew about MM. Meanwhile, MM’s body is not found at the hospital. Marion Chambers, who also had knowledge of sealed information, teams up with John Loomis to discover the truth about MM and the origin of his evil. With the death of Dr. Loomis, John is determined to redeem and avenge his father.

Laurie and Jimmy begin a relationship formed by the bond they shared in surviving a living nightmare. Laurie’s parents are discovered dead in their home. Laurie moves in with Jimmy and they begin a closed, private life together. However, Laurie is able to draw strength from her deceased sister Judith Myers, who just might hold the key to stopping their brother.

Sheriff Brackett, Warren County police, and the FBI have their own plans to stop him. But, they soon realize they can’t do it alone. John Loomis and Marion Chambers, after studying Dr. Loomis’s research, frighteningly discover the pure evil they are dealing with and the only way to finally stop MM.

The characters of Tommy Doyle, Lindsay, as well as other rather minor characters will play a major role in solving the mystery surrounding MM. The answers lie at the end of the movie, but are rooted in the opening scene of the original Halloween.

I can be more specific about the opening scenes of the H3:

Black screen. Voice narrative. Words scrolling up screen.
“On Halloween, 1963,in the small town of Haddonfield, IL, a young boy named Michael Myers stabbed his older sister to death in their home. Committed to a mental institution, he escaped 15 years later, going on a diabolical murder spree to find and kill his other sister Laurie.

His psychiatrist, Dr. Sam Loomis, died trying to stop his own patient whom he knew was pure evil. His son, John Loomis, continues his father’s quest to save Laurie and countless others from the evil serial killer. The truth he uncovers behind the mask will reveal the very root of Michael’s evil and possibly the only way to stop him.

What you are about to see are the events that took place after the night he came home…

    music. deep bass. fast ticking
Scenes of H1 and H2 in fast sequence:
    -escape from mental hospital
    -tow truck driver kill
-hardware store break-in, donning of mask
-Strode’s killed arriving home from party
    -break in at school
    -Lyndsay, Tommy running, screaming
    -Dr. Mixter kill
    -Mrs. Alves kill
    -Dr. Loomis “It’s time Michael”

    Score begins
Mask slowly appears next to title and credits on black screen. Camera slowly zooms into eye of mask.

  10. I’d go to the basics. I’d set the story in Haddonfield, Illinois, I’d use the same mask used in the original film and I’d use a minimalistic music just as Carpenter did (no more symphonic versions ala H20′s music score). I think it would be great too leaving the Strode stuff behind and give Michael a brand new bunch of victims with no connections to the Strode thing. And please, no more “Kevin-williamsonish-teenaging-high-school-feeling” ala H20… GO CLASSIC! (PD: I liked H20 very much!)

  11. One last thing: set the new H3 as a completely stand-alone movie with just Carpenter’s original in mind. JUST THE ORIGINAL IN MIND!! forget the other films!
