television p Weekly TV Wrap Up July 16th, 2009In this weeks TV Wrap Up, I’ve found  casting news about Stargate Universe, Supernatural, Psych, Friday Night Lights, Smallville, Criminal Minds and Stephen King’s book-turned-tv-series, Cell!

As usual, I have a ratings recap at the bottom, but it’s the Summer Lite edition being as how we’re in repeat mode for the Summer (except for the reality drabble that is intertwined throughout the chart).

Let’s “git ‘er done“, shall we?

Stargate Universe

Stargate Universe is looking to cast a “name actress” to play the wife of Robert Carlyle’s character.

These will be flashback scenes since she will be dead by the time we see her.

The CW’s Supernatural is adding a recurring role of a possessed mechanic named Raphael.  He’s supposedly going to be possessed by one of the most powerful entities in the universe.

David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London) has signed up to appear in the Halloween episode of Psych.  He’ll be playing a one Dr. Ken Tucker, who is a self-serving sociopath!

Season 4 of Psych will be starting on August 7th.

Friday Night Lights

Casting has begun for season 4 of Friday Night Lights.  As high school students graduate, they move on.  So too must Adrianne Palicki, Zach Gilford, and Minka Kelly.

The rolls they’re looking to fill are named Vince, Luke, Jess and Becky.

I’ll miss watching Palicki on FNL, but she’s moving onto Supernatural, so I won’t go through any withdrawals.

smallville 02 Weekly TV Wrap Up July 16th, 2009

Word on the street is that the upcoming season of Smallville will have a full on Clark and Lois romance going.  I know many of you are of mixed opinions on this issue, but we’ll just have to take what they give us and hope we don’t suffer too much from any forced acting or stretched out story lines.

I guess this means Lois comes back from where ever she went last season.

Oops, does that make this a SPOILER? Sorry.

Criminal Minds

If you’re wondering if Hotch survived the season finale – heck, I don’t know!  But what I’ve read is that they are casting for the role of an emergency room doctor.

That can’t be bad news.  Can it?

Stephen King’s Cell

So how do you get turned into a rampaging killer?  Quite possibly by a signal sent through your cell phone, according to Stephen King.

His novel Cell is being taken up by John Harrison (Tales From The Darkside: The Movie) who is putting together a script for a 4-hour mini-series based on the book.

I don’t know about you, but hopefully Harrison will figure out how to liven up the ending.  I’ve always found endings to King’s movies lacking something, but could never put a finger on it.  But that’s just me.

TV Ratings

On the big networks, CBS took the majority of the top spots, with NCIS once again ranking supreme in the ratings.  The Mentalist & CSI: Miami were the other crime dramas filling out the top-10.

Trivia:  Did you know that ABC turned down the CSI franchise when it was being shopped around?  Oops.

In the oddity department, I’m almost relieved to see that Big Brother premiered in 18th.  For me, it shows that at least one more reality cornerstone is slowly losing its grip on the viewers.  My exuberance is short lived though, as I realize the other reality competition shows for dancing and singing are still ranking up there.

On Cable, The Closer keeps closing the door on the other shows, Royal Pains is hanging in there, while the Michael Jackson memorial dominated the top 20 in different slots, as each hour of the event was broken down and placed in the rankings.

  1. Woo!!! First again

  2. I can’t believe Eureka didn’t make the list again! I loved the first episode this season. America, you are truly loosing your way.

  3. JOHN: I also should have said something about it too but sometimes I get carried away by the news.

Eureka’s back and dang, I wish Sheriff Andy would have stuck around. That might have made a nice addition to the cast, but he probably would have overshadowed everyone.

Sometimes, even though shows do well for a network, they don’t always do well compared to the rest of the noise out there.

A great example would be SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL. For those of us addicted, can there be a better show? And for the CW, they are good performers… in as much as that network is concerned. But in the overall scheme of TV, they ranked in the 70th to 80th spots in ratings most weeks.

So don’t fret too much on that one…

Eureka returned last Friday part 2 of season 3, drawing an audience of 2.6 million total viewers. It won its timeslot among 25-54 year-old adults in the basic cable networks.

For the younger generation, it pulled in 1.1 million 18-49 year-olds in its new Friday timeslot.

    Hope that helps JOHN.

  4. Thanks bruce. I thought Sheriff Andy would also stay around as a deputy, but the pretty female deputy would have had a problem with that. Oh yeah, she is suppose to be in a nice red dress singing in the next episode. Ooooo la laaaa! :-)

And Bruce, if it sounded like I was upset with you, I wasn’t. America seems to be in this reality show phase and hopefully it ends soon.

  5. I have to agree with you John. Reality muck is polluting the tv landscape while true gems like Eureka and Chuck are left struggling for viewers despite being well made shows.

As for “Cell”, don’t expect much from the ending Bruce, as the ending of the book was kinda lame, too. The rest of the book was pretty good, but the ending kinda just happened. Hopefully, they can spruce up the ending a little bit.

As for Smallville, I love me some more Erica Durance!! Best Lois Lane since Teri Hatcher. 😀 Heck, I think she might be BETTER than Hatcher. Stars and Stripes bikini anyone? 😛

  6. Umm did I read that right did you say Adrianne Palicki is going to Supernatural? Didn’t she already have her time on the show as Sam’s dead girl friend? That should be interesting.

  7. Yep, you read correctly good sir.
And yes, Palicki is reprising her role of Sam’s girlfriend, Jess on SUPERNATURAL too…

It’s a quikry sense of ‘What?’ going on there, if you do ask me!

She’s actually super super busy with lots of roles, and that makes me a very happy person. I liked her role in FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and how she handled it and look forward to what else she can do.

  8. ANDY:

Yea, I absolutely love King movies but somehow the beginning builds up to the middle, which steamrolls on and just drives right off a cliff of “what?” at the end.

I don’t get it but I think your perspective on that they “just end” sums it up nicely.

No worries… I put stuff out for it to be talked about or commented on. Unless someone directs something AT ME with my name in the same sentence as an expletive like adjective, or adjective / verb / expletive, I’m usually OK with what’s said.

But thanks for clarifying anyway. It’s appreciated.

  9. I really liked FNL, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep watching it. The entire idea of the show is that your gonna keep getting attached to people and they will constantly leave. I’m tired of watching characters I like leave. Watching Jason Street leave sucked and now Matt Sareson is gonna be gone it’s just kind of like how is this going to stay interesting. The only character I like that is still gonna be on the show is Coach.

  10. DANIEL F:

And then Coach has this new dirt bowl high school to coach to victory since he was “monied” out by the guys shoveling money at his old school… that kind of crap so irritates me!! Gooooo Coach!
