I think it’s a between-scenes shot. As far as authenticity, the deerstalker cap and meerschaum were stage affectations, not props Doyle wrote of. He does appear to be a bit bummish for Holmes in this shot.

Looking at that still, I’d say he’s in disguise, something Holmes was something of an expert at… He can’t be Mycroft, as although Mycroft is even smarter than Sherlock, he’s rather sedentary, and can’t be bothered putting in the effort to do much. He certainly isn’t likely to be out in disguise, strolling down a street! (Nero Wolfe is rumoured to be based on him.)

Guy Ritchie has said,that he wants to”introduce…….authentic to the narrative.”I hope that doesn’t mean that he’s going to give us a more common,everyday 19th century man,instead of the exceptional and eccentric character Sir Arthur Connan Doyle created Holmes to be.

Steven-The only problem with a Mycroft Holmes is that he functions in much the same manner as Nero Wolfe; neither will actually trouble themselves to leave their preferred domicile/hangout in order to go to the murder/crime scene for firsthand observation (except in rare circumstance)…both are quick-intellects imprisoned by choice in rather rotund physical forms…thus relying upon the services of their legmen to ferret the details out and bring them back to be assembled.

Mycroft had Sherlock as his occasional legman, just as Nero Wolfe had Archie Goodwin.

The disguise theory is certainly plausible considering these images were not released by the studio but are spy shots.

I thought the same, a disguise. It is certainly not a Holmes look, so must assume this is a snapshot of him as something else.
However, the fact Ritchie is helming this does make me worry.

Also, I really love the idea of RDJ being Mycroft Holmes. That works so much better. Could be more original then too.

Body of Lies tanked,,,that’s a 100+mil budget btw.
Dosnt look like there gonna make that back.

Wow how about “Quarantine”.
That film had a budget of 12mil and it broke 14mil this weekend… Wow that’s a huge hit for Screen Gems.

Every drawing, every filmic adaptation of Sherlock has been of a tall, somewhat gaunt-faced stringbean of a fellow; honestly, the bowler hat is more a Dr. Watson chapeau.

The only round-faced Holmes would be the one even SHERLOCK describes as his intellectual superior; his brother Mycroft Holmes. Why then, you ask, is Mycroft not better known than his brother? To quote Sherlock himself, in “The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter”: “…he has no ambition and no energy. He will not even go out of his way to verify his own solutions, and would rather be considered wrong than take the trouble to prove himself right. Again and again I have taken a problem to him, and have received an explanation which has afterwards proved to be the correct one. And yet he was absolutely incapable of working out the practical points…”

(Yes, I am a devout Holmes fan)

Robert Downey Jr. looks really sexy being Sherlock Holmes! I LOVE RDJ! But I don’t really think he looks like Sherlock. But I don’t really know what the real Sherlock looks like. I still love RDJ!
