I’ve noticed how quickly time passes since I started writing this column, in fact the weeks appear to be getting shorter as I continue writing it.
However, it is the highlight of my week, as I search the web like a film news detective looking for the right stories to talk about. I try and balance the big news with the obscure, so that the fantastic readers of Screen Rant get a fully comprehensive insight into the world of movies.
This week:
Could there be a sequel to 300 ? Jason Bourne returns for a fourth time, Paltrow, Watts and Knightley star in King Lear, Chris Carter is already shooting his X-Files follow-up - entitled Fencewalker and we check into the Hostel for a third time!

1. 300 producers Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari and Bernie Goldmann, as well as director Zack Snyder have revealed that Frank Miller is working on ideas for a sequel / prequel to the box office smash.
The last time I heard something like that was when there were rumors of a Gladiator sequel/ prequel -and we all know what happened there. In saying that - you never know with Hollywood.

2. It looks like we are going to be Bourne again. Frank Marshall has been talking up a fourth film in the series that would reunite Matt Damon and Director Paul Greengrass.
Marshall has said that the new film could start shooting next summer for a 2010 release. The film may involve Bourne heading to South America to tackle Colombian drug barons.
Well, he has been everywhere else!

3. Naomi Watts will join Gwyneth Paltrow and Keira Knightley to star as Anthony Hopkins’ daughters in a new film version of William Shakespeare’s King Lear.
Director Joshua Michael Stern said that more casting announcements should be made soon.
Stern said:
“The one thing that I’m staying away from is stunt casting, so there won’t be the American comedian, but there will be some really great actors playing smaller roles that will make a lot of sense. I’m not very fond of the modern adaptations. It’s pre-Roman, Celtic, very raw. It’s a period in British history, from which Tolkien took a lot of his inspiration, where there were thatched-roof roundhouses and fortresses.”
King Lear is my favorite Shakespeare play, so I’m quite interested in this, plus Stern seems to have an interesting vision.
Filming should begin next year in Britain or Ireland.

I’m not crazy about the idea of a Bourne sequel, especially after the last movie wrapped up the main story. Can’t they just leave it be?? That being said, I will check it out simply because the last 3 have been excellent.
I’ll have to admit - I’m not a big fan of the movies - they’re inter -changeable to me.
Distracting - yes.
The second coming that most think?
No!

I’m a huge fan of the Bourne movie series - hopefully they do a good job with a new one. The problem with a new one might be the loss of his vulnerability (which made the character more approachable) if they decide to go all-out super-assassin.
His reticence is what made him appealing as a character and is what was for the most part missing from “Wanted.”

NOOOOO! Not another 300! I guess I should have seen it coming since the last one did so well, I really don’t know why though.
A prequel…Frank Miller has sold out too…I guess anyone can be bought and he had held out for so many years to keep his properties from being raped by Hollywood and now he agrees to do this….Let it be….It was a good stand alone story that needs no prequel or sequel..It is what it is…
Knightley and Paltrow in Shakespeare? Argh. Not for me.
Hopkins was in a Titus Andronicus movie that was a bit out there and interesting.
As for 300 again, I don’t get that at all. I know there are plenty of battles to use from Ancient Greece, but that was a standout one and could keep the story on it. In truth, it will likely just be more shouting and killing. Why do it?
Just thought I should add, I know the why. Kerching!
exaxtly stephen! there is no other reason to make one other than the money. I think even the people who liked the first one will agree that a second 300 is a terrible idea.
Damon will return for a 4th if an only if the same director returns and it will happen obviously with how good Ultimatum was, and how successful it was (rightfully so)
The 300 film will most likely be a prequel to bring back *some of the characters from what is being said.
But before that, those same ppl are going to do “War of the Gods”, a big epic that will use the same ideas and style as 300 but will be far more vast. The day after the interview you reference, there was to be an announcement of the greenlight and deal with Universal. Not sure if that happened or not.
One place you could go with “300″ is to the other side of the country and pick up the Battle of Salamis. What some historians say is the single most important battle in history!
One of these days I’ve got to watch that 300 movie. Its just sitting there on my dvd rack, waiting for me to watch it.
Ah wll
btw,,,, I saw the X-Files trailer with Hulk and WOW was it boring, dull, and they both looked bored and dull.
The way they worked in “I want to believe” into one of the lines in the film, almost made me spitup my drink on the guy in the next row down.
Great job guys!
