Welcome folks to another Weekend Movie Wrap Up - the column where you discover the smaller and more interesting news of the past week.
This week:
David Fincher lines up another project, Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen become Prisoner’s, Paul Anderson threatens us with another Resident Evil, Tom Cruise takes everything with a pinch of Salt and Christian a makes Amends.

1. David Fincher is developing a computer-animated film called The Goon - based on Eric Powell’s comic book.
According to Comingsoon:
“The comic follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and “skunk apes.”
Don’t get too excited though - Fincher is only producing. Good job too - the man only has about 13, 000 directing projects attached to his name.

2. AMC have announced that Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen will star in a new six-part interpretation of The Prisoner- based on the 1960’s television show that starred Patrick McGoohan.
Caviezel will play Number 6, a former spy who is trapped in a bizarre village while McKellen would play Number Two- the man trying to discover the reason for his resignation.
The original show was a loose spin-off from McGoohan’s Danger Man.
Trivia Time: McGoohan turned down the role of James Bond and a new version of The Prisoner has been in development for about fifteen years - with Mel Gibson attached at one point.

3. Paul Anderson has announced that a fourth Resident Evil film is in the planning stages.
Anderson told MTV:
“I’m just starting to talk to Sony about it. I don’t even know if anything will come of it, but there’s a possibility it might happen. I love the Resident Evil franchise and we always try to make the best possible movie we can. If we could find a good Resident Evil 4 to make, then we would do it, but I wouldn’t just do it for the sake of it, that’s for sure.”
The Resident Evil films have been solid little earners for Sony - so I wouldn’t be too surprised if a fourth film is made. Even if it does direct to DVD.

4. It wouldn’t be a weekend Wrap Up if we didn’t talk about Tom Cruise and this week came the announcement that Cruise has signed on to Edwin A. Salt. The actor had been circling the project about a US spy who is accused of being a Russian double agent. The film will be directed by Phillip Noyce of Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger fame. The duo had originally been developing The 28th Amendment at Warner Brothers. Now that Cruise had jumped ship who will co-star with Denzel Washington in that film? I wonder… hmmmm…

5. Christian Bale - The Hardest Working Man In Show Business (TM) is being lined up by Warner Brothers to replace Tom Cruise in The 28th Amendment. Bale would co-star with Denzel Washington in the political thriller.
The film would begin shooting next year.

Its Sunday so this could change during the week,
“The Prisoner” is THE REMAKE OF THE WEEK.

Damn him and his movie ruining ways..
that @$$ made that franchise for his wife Milla, so screw them both for ruining my dream franchise, and turning it into something completely different from the original story line, and absolutely ruining it. Alice was never ever in the games at any point what so ever. those games had plenty of female characters, but no! they chose to make a new character and put Alice in Wonderland references into the story. that dude sucks at making movies. I hate his guts.
Damn him and ruining it for all the fans. he never cared about the fans of the games, he just wanted to have sex with Milla!
the games had a great story line and awesome characters, they would have been good if they were done right. instead they got some D movie director to make em and he messed everything up.
I’m sorry for such a negative comment, I’m just a huge fan of Resident Evil.

The Goon sounds pretty interesting. Ghosts? Zombies? Skunk apes? I’m in.
I have never read the comic.
What is a skunk ape?
…probably something I wouldn’t want to hit with my car… I’ve seen(smelled?) what regular road kill skunks do…

The Skunk Ape is a Bigfoot-esque monster that is called a skunk ape because sightings are typically associated with a horrible smell.
Also, on The Goon….YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Finally!
