Box Office

Despicable Me was the box office champ over the weekend. The Steve Carell voiced 3D toon should gross an impressive $58 million by Monday morning. In addition to Carell the film also stars the vocal talents of Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Kristin Wiig, and Men In Black 3 villain Jemaine Clement.

Vampire film Twilight: Eclipse saw a big bite taken out of its grosses. The sequel dipped over 50%, but a healthy $31 million more in box office revenue brings the film to an impressive $235 million. Almost enough to put a smile on Kristen Stewart’s face.

Predators, produced by Robert Rodriguez, had to settle for third place. The R-rated Adrien Brody actioner should see about $14 million worth of green come Monday. Not bad for a film that only cost $38 million to produce. Maybe it’ll be enough to get Arnold Schwarzenegger for the follow-up?

The Last Airbender should score another $17.5 million worth of bank, giving the Paramount Picture a $100 million total gross.

Knight and Day brought in another $8 million for a cumulative gross of $62 million. The action film should top out at $75 million. Not quite the disaster that many were predicting.

The Karate Kid added another $5.6 million for an impressive $164 million gross, while The A-Team upped its total to $75 million after bringing in just under $2 million over the weekend.

Indie flick Cyrus rounded out the top ten will $1 million.

Movie News

1. I don’t think that Leonard DiCaprio is a big fan of change. At least that’s why I’m guess he often works with the same directors.

The Inception actor was set to reteam with Martin Scorsese on The Wolf of Wall Street, but it now seems as if his Body of Lies director Ridley Scott will direct the film instead.

When will this happen? Who knows considering that Scott has the Alien prequels on the way – along with several other films in development. DiCaprio is also supposed to star in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover and Mel Gibson’s Viking film - I have a feeling that the latter project will be taking a back seat (due to recent events).

3. If you’ve been waiting for Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic with Matt Damon and Michael Douglas – then you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Matt Damon has said that shooting has been bumped to next year.

I know a few good pianist jokes – but this isn’t the time or the place.

  1. i really dont want farrell playing the mighty ozzy. as far as gibsons viking movie, i think that will get made despite the recent events lol.

  2. Predators was directed by Nimród Antal, not Robert Rodriguez. Way to do proper research. Where do they get these writers?

    • looks like it says “produced by” to me

    • It was a slip up by the writer corrected shortly after the post went live. Rodriguez name keeps coming up in association with the film. Should have been caught by an editor before it was published though, you’re right.

  3. It’s also made $25 million, not $14 as stated on the report. But let’s not get too critical, if I wrote this on a Sunday night, it would be unpublishable and I would probably be lynched.

  4. Okay, you’ve aroused my curiousity…what “recent events” transpired having to do with Gibson’s film???

    • watch the news lately pal?

      • i really dont think that his negative headlines will affect the film personally, but the public, head movie honchos might be swayed by the latest negative publicity. who knows though really.

        • It probably wont’ affect the film, but all his agents are letting him go. LOL, his career is over. I can’t feel sorry the guy either, freakin racist.

      • @Anthony

I didn’t ask for, nor do I deserve, a jackassed response. I KNOW quite well about Gibson’s drunken, anti-Semetic tirade awhile ago and thought he deserved more than the negligible professional “slap on the wrist” he received. I DO NOT know about more recent happenings…What did he do THIS time? If he’s added racism to his alcohol-induced resume of stupidity, his career really DOES need to end. Now, again, I ask, “What happened recently?” I hope, this time, I get a real answer.

  5. Keep supporting that 3D people.

    • hhaah 790, im NOT one of the 3d supporters!!

  6. Anthony who’s your choice to play Ozzy?

    • havent really thoght about it too much, i think colin, or colon as i call him, would be bad though, im just not hat big of a fan of his, hell why dont they get crowe to do it?? (kidding) Oz should play himself LOL, who better?? in reality that wouldnt work though hahah

  7. Sucks always been a fan of Gibson but it’s hard to like the. Amazingly gifted actor who always delivers on screen but just a terrible person it seems. Sucks to see a good Carrer and talent so tarnished.

Why the mention of the Twilight percent drop and not the huge drop TLA had? That’s biigger news. Twilight always has a big drop and 50 is good considering it’s past films. TLA had almost 70 % for it’s drop that show bad word of mouth despite the large intrest the public started with.

Also your despicable me numbers are 3 mil low and your predator numbers are off by almost 10 mil.

  8. Yes i loved Despicable Me it deserved it;.)

  9. Wow Daniel, like ive said before, love reading your comment;.) and yes,TLA sucked big time,i almost fell asleep(though i was never a fan and never seen an episode…) and twilight sucked too(though its the best one,it still sucked….) and i wanna see predators now!!!

  10. Vic
I enjoyed our little chat about my problem it seems youve figured out y i wasnt able to comment;.)

    • Ricky18,

Yeah, I’m relieved I finally found what seems to be a solution that works all around.

  11. Liberace? SERIOUSLY? Wow, I can’t believe that anyone in Hollywood would actually greenlight that film. I never thought I would say this, but I would actually go see a Twilight film before I ever watch a film, much less PAY to watch, a film about Liberace. Sheesh.

  12. Meh I like Colin I think he is a good actor with a lot of bad choices for his movies. He’s done alot of bad film but almost always delivers a great performance. Plus he’s irish and I’m protective of my fellow Irishmen.

He really win me over with In Bruges great movie and he was great in it.

  13. I should add Anthony while I like him he is a bad choice he looks nothing like Ozzy. I can’t say who I’d put in the part right off hand not with out looking at alot of pictures but I’m confident givin a full day I could come up with a list of 20 better options. Colons a decent actor but he doesn’t look the part he just fit.

    • good lol, whoever they get i sure hope he’s a real fan of ozzy

  14. Vic
