I sincerly hope that studios are paying close attention to D9′s numbers this weekend. For the longest time they seem to have ignored some things that sci-fi film makers in the classic era ( 40′s thru 60′s in my humble opinion…) seemed to bank on…
1) Don’t use special effects like a drunk uses a lamp post…for support instead of illumination.

2) money spent doesn’t hold a candle to imagination realized…(Are you listening Michael Bay???)

3) THE AUDIENCE HAS TO CARE!!!

I never got “Friends.”. A group of people that screw each other and still remain friends. That’s about it???

On the Bubba sequel, I agree sometimes recasting major roles like Campbell’s, Elvis are just as bad as a I’ll conceived reboot or remake.
Perlman’s great but does anyone think this is going to pay off in the long run?

I did mean to say withOUT. oops. No I loved the first. Saw it on the big screen, bought the dvd when it came out. Bruce is awesome. Without him the Bubba series, it just wont be good.

Glad to see that D-9 did well. Hopefully this inspires studios to take a chance with a new story and ideas. Yeah, it doesn’t hurt having Peter Jackson attached to this, but I think people were happy to get something original out there.
