Another week another Weekend Movie News Wrap Up. Hard to believe that we are into the month of August already! Crazy.
This week: Robert DeNiro visits the Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson, we see more of The Terminator, Wes Craven’s old movies get remade..again, Thomas Jane lands a big role and Sam Raimi does comedy in The Transplants.

1. Mel Gibson’s comeback movie has apparently just nabbed Robert DeNiro as a co-star. The Martin Campbell directed The Edge of Darkness. This one appears to be shaping up nicely. Gibson plays a retired police detective investigating the death of his daughter.
Don’t these criminals ever learn? Never mess with Mad Mel’s family!
The film starts shooting in the next couple of weeks in Boston. DeNiro’s part is unknown.

2. A new Terminator: Salvation image has been released. It shows Christian Bale’s John Connor having a face-off with Sam Worthington’s Marcus.

3. There’s more horror remake news this week with word out that Wes Craven’s People Under the Stairs might be next up for the face lift treatment.
Craven tells Shock Til You Drop:
“There’s a pretty high likelihood Rogue would like to make ‘People Under the Stairs’ as the next film we make. It will be a remake, not directed by me, but something Marianne Maddalena will produce after she completes ‘The Last House on the Left.’”
Man - I gotta get me the rights to an old horror movie!

4. With all the talk about The Punisher recently lets not forget about Thomas Jane.
Jane has just signed up for a role in Hung, a pilot for HBO to be directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways).
According to Reuters:
“The dark comedy pilot centers on Ray a well-endowed struggling middle-aged high school basketball coach who figures out a way to use his best asset.”
It sounds like a tough role to pull off… ahem…

5. Sam Raimi has signed up to produce the superhero comedy The Transplants. The film comes from Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson who also decided to inflict Not Another Teen Movie on the world. Disney will unleash the film sometime in the future

It’s worth pointing out that Christian Bale is possibly chained up.

I read that Johnathan Nolan, is still working on the film, (he’s the writer), if true, this sounds very bad. Whenever a film starts to shoot with a unfinished script it usually spells disaster.
Lets just hope that turns out to be false in this case, because Jonathan Nolan is extremely talented.
T4, if anything like The Chronicles, should be very good though, especially with someone as awesome as Nolan writing the script. Guess we’ll just see…

I hope the resistance uses Connor’s knowledge of cutting into the head access point and removing the CPU.
My only opinion on Terminator so far is that I’ve had the trailer music stuck in my head since TDK. It’s not really “music,” I guess, just rhythmic static inbetween cuts. CH-CH-CH-CH CHHHH CH-CH-CHCH.
It’s fun to mimic. Try it sometime.
Saw the first movie this past week. I wonder if they will show John Connor now playing those tapes his mother, “Linda Hamilton” made.
I happened to have thought “Not Another Teen Movie” was pretty funny. Better than the last 2 Scary Movie films and MUCH better than the God-awful straight-to-DVD American Pie films. Randy Quaid was GREAT as the alcoholic father. It’s crude for sure, but that is part of what makes it funny!

Yeah, I own it on VHS. The audience never hears anything she recorded in the intervening years to his preteens. It would be neat if he went over some insights she had on the tapes in the movie. I know it’s maudlin.. Just a thought.

If you upgrade your T2 copy to the dvd Extreme copy, you will find out that the T-1000, found the tapes in Johns bedroom when he killed the Foster Parents.
Remember when John said to the Terminator, he wanted to go home and get some stuff?

I should say that the scene I mentioned was a deleated scene that can only be seen on the T2 Extreme dvd.
It shows the T-1000, walking thru the Foster parents house after he’s killed everyone. He goes into Johns room and finds the tapes.
Ah, the salesman is at work again!
But had to agree, the dvd is great.

I got my GF to watch Terminator last weekend, and T2 yesterday. Next week is the crappy T3, but we may just pass on that. I’, busy anyways for the next 3 weeks, heh.
Yeah have to plead ignorant on DVD extra footage. I have 3 dvd players, ones a SONY multi-platter and another HD DVD Home theater system w/Aquos HD. I have three vcr’s a good old Fisher which doesn’t work very well, a JVC super hi-res, and a Proscan. Been collecting titles for awhile but don’t like to have the same title for the sake of a different media. Rather save the cash and buy something I haven’t seen before.

Ya know I’ve found that sometimes you can forgo the special features of high end dvd players and really score with decent low end players.
I picked up a dvd player 2 years ago during Christmas time at Best buy, its a Philips brand and its great !!!
Cost me 52 bucks.
Yeah, I took advantage of that awhile back to put my third DVD player in my family room. Really I’ve scored well with all three players. HD is making everything below it crazy cheap it seems.
When you go to home theater though, it’s hard to get out of the house!
Only the best movies are worth seeing at the theater now.
