WeRAnimals2 First Look: R Rated Puppet Movie We R Animals

The Swedes are quickly becoming my favorite filmmakers (sorry Mexico). From gorgeous horror movies like Let The Right One In to gripping mystery/thrillers like The Millennium Trilogy, every time I turn around somebody is putting a wonderful new film from the land of Sweden in front of my face.

(Of course this has everything to do with me coming late than party, Sweden has been making wonderful films for years – see: Lasse Hallström.)

If you know me well, you know I love puppets. In fact, every time I go to Disney World, I MUST make a stop at the Muppets 3D Theater in MGM Studios, if only for a half-hour of smile-inducing nostalgic peace I can’t find anywhere else in the world (until that new Muppet movie gets released, at least).

But I have a confession: the only thing I love more than puppets is seeing puppets do dirty things. There, I said it. It’s for this reason that I’m forever a fan of Peter Jackson’s Meet The Feebles and if these early images are any indication, I’m going to be a fan of Thobias Hoffmen’s Swedish-produced, English-language film,We R Animals as well.

Hoffmen and Co. have recently put together a test pilot using their animatronic actors in order to attract potential investors and producers to the film. If you want to know about the kind of puppet hijinks We R Animals has in store for viewers, just read the twisted official synopsis below:

Snow White the rabbit is stuck in a sadistic man’s pet store, she craves for love but nobody wants to take her home. But one day the animals wreck havoc and they all escape, including Snow White. She gets lost with her newfound freedom and almost dies, until the nice old lady Alice saves her. Snow White would’ve had a bright future if not for Alice’s jealous and vindictive dogs, who call on their friend Flash, a shady and devious pimp cat. Together they plan to transform Alice’s apartment into a brothel for animals, and force Snow White and even the human Alice into prostitution.

We R Animals is a comic adventure, filled with drug using cats, horny dogs, cat-ninja assassins, vampire bats, cruelty and magic. In essence We R Animals is a love story told with warmth, where sometimes the laughter sits in the throat and forces us to question the morals and views of both animals and man.

I know some people will be put off by such a concept (puppet love is sadly not universal) but speaking as someone who often has to put on puppet shows for his toddler niece, those little stuffed characters are a great (read: humorous) way to reflect and refract the issues of real life. Will puppetry be a great medium for exploring the quandary of morality in man (or lack thereof?) I’m optimistic that it will.

Check out a gallery of images from We R Animals and let us know what you think. The film is aiming for a 2011 production start.

  1. im wondering if this ones as good or as raunchy as peter jacksons puppet movie

  2. I think this will be funny haha :)

  3. I will be looking forward to this.

  4. Yeah, I liked this when it was called “Meet the Feebles”.

    • LOL….

  5. Animal Farm on crack.

  6. Having sex with a puppet………… I’d try anything once!!

    • Thats just nasty!

    • You may want to look into the “Furry Lifestyle”.
I’m just saying, all things are possible….

      • Opening an “Incognito Window” and Googling “Furry Lifestyle”………….

  7. I love meet the feebles!

  8. The only sweeden film I really like was “Let the right one in” but the other one with “The girl with dragon tattoo?” c’mon y’all hype it up too much! LOL! I have seen better in an American film! I had purchased the Blu-ray and I was a bit disappointed! I see nothing special in that movie compare to “let the right one in”. Just like they gave best director to “Katheryn Bigelow?” C’mon’ she did an awesome job on “Near Dark” but compare “AVATAR” to “HURT LOCKER”? I’d say Cameron did a better directing job on an complicated film such as “AVATAR” compare to “Hurt Locker” who to looked like a TV series! I guess thats hollywood for yah! HAHA!

    • well, the academy saw things differnet there dude. what a slap in the face to cammy too, i loved it, even though he was clapping, and smiling for the ol’ ex wife, you know he was upset lol.

  9. That’s because the academy is all politics and not about the art or performance. Hurt locker won cause 1) its set in are current war time crisis 2) a female has never one 3) cameron already won a crap ton of them for titanic. It had nothing to do with artistic merit. The hurt locker was mediocre at best and avatar was far better.

    • Well they Gave Mo’Nique a supporting Oscar for Precious so it can’t be all politics.

  10. I fancied Marina in Stingray and Helena Bonham Carter as an ape. Best I keep away from this.

    • Yeah!!! Helena Bonham Carter was surprisingly boner inducing in that movie………

  11. I dont know whats worse you guys saying that The Hurt Locker was crap or the fact that Avatar was better??? I’m sorry i liked Avatar better when it was Fern Gully….and as far as The Hurt Locker did you even pay attention? The movie was amazing and very true to what is going on today, My brother is a bomb tech who just came home and he said they must’ve watched that movie a million times over there im sorry IMO Avatar was crap (as far as a movie goes) the technology used and the way the movie was made was beyond words but id u asked me which i thought was a better film i go with The Hurt Locker

    • me too, i just mainly liked the story of Avatar, and Lang was my kinda villian in it, other than that…ehh..the action scenes were good as well. but the hurt locker was much better, and the oscar wins were well deserved

    • Cause i can have an opinion if i want to. You don’t have to agree. I honestly don’t think any of the best picture nominees were all that great. My favorite one was a serious man by the coens but there is no way that was going to win. I didn’t not like the hurt locker, i just didn’t think it was great or that accurate. But ny whole point wad it is politics when it comes down to it. Sandra bullock winning best actress? Really? The guy who that film was based on said it was inaccurate.

  12. Literally can’t wait for this!

  13. That’s…pretty screwed up.

  14. @Kofi You should check out the Brodway stage production of Avenue Q it is def up your alley, And frakking hilarious.

  15. That’s the freakiest thing I’ve ever seen. Like for real. And I’ve watched the Passion of the Christ. I’ve seen freaky. That is years of therapy waiting to happen.

  16. oh my gosh! that’s horrifyingly awesome!

  17. Looks kinda like a BBC show called Mongrels…

  18. If you like puppets acting dirty you need to watch Robert smigels short lived tv funhouse. It was a spin-off of the snl shorts. I’m not sure how many episodes there are, maybe only a handful, but it was hillarious. Lobster puppet goes to a restaurant orders lobster doesn’t eat it, takes home the “leftovers” and bangs it. Awesome.

  19. Yes, T.V Funhouse was AWESOME – making “Christmas Cheer” by siphoning it from a Christmas Elf’s spine and turning it into a powder snorted like amphetamines that end up with a scene of animal puppets having sex with real animals – puppet bestiality! I think (might be mistaken) that the same guys (along with David Cross) went on to do Wonder Shozen, which was another “let’s just see how screwed up we can be” type of comedy weirdness – stuff Tim and Eric’s Awesome show tries to achieve and never quite gets there…some people just try too hard to push envelopes I guess…

  20. cant wait for this movie. anyone seen the awesome canadian tv show, “puppets who kill”? i hope this movie will be just as deranged!
