[And ANOTHER Update (yeesh): Seems Empire screwed up by posting the trailer live and Warner Bros. was NOT happy, but now the trailer is up at Apple.com so all bets are off - enjoy the Watchmen trailer below!]
Empire Online has an exclusive on the online version of the Watchmen trailer and they snuck it onto the interwebs a full day ahead of schedule.
Click on the above image to check it out, then come back and let us know if you thought it was awesome as I did! (Of course keep in mind I saw the Watchmen trailer in IMAX, which was a whole ‘nother thing). To see a series of screen grabs from the trailer, see below.

Thanks again,
Vic
Where am I? What just happened? I think I peed myself…Sweet and it captures the tension of the graphic novel very well…I didn’t want to blink..I am sure I will WATCH this 100,000 times….
Another three times and I am smelling toast..I think I’m having a stroke…My brain is melting … somebody help me…
I’ve never heard of this before until I started reading about it here. The one guy looks like a rip-off of Batman. The trailer doesn’t really tell me what the movie is about.
Vic
Going to a midnight showing of TDK tonight, so I’m refusing to spoil this for myself. It’s awfully hard, though. Must…resist…urge…
ComicBookMovie.com has the trailer up !!!!
it all just looks so perfect
F****ING WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it looks sooooooooooooooo goooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of the (IMO) Greatest Comics Ever and the trailer looks perfect
Vic
YES.
Holy Crap. HOLY CRAP!
yo Andy, that guy IS a ripoff of Batman, that’s the point.
Originally, Alan Moore wanted to use the main DC characters but they said nopers, so he made a cast of copy-cat characters.
The dude you’re referring to is Night Owl and ya he is very similar to Batman, rich and full of gadgets. DEFINATELY, get the graphic novel and read it, you’ll dig it.
Ahh..! Why’d they change the dialogue!
Trailer: “…and the world will look up and shout, “Help!”…”
Graphic Novel: “…and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout, “Help!”…”
Also, I wonder how they’ll implement all the flashbacks / “Excerpts” ?
This’ll be one for IMAX though, I don’t see how Jon couldn’t look silly otherwise.
Rev
I haven’t read the GN but after seeing this I think I’ll get it. Definitely before i see the movie. It looks very tense and dark. Count me in as excited.
Perfect! Looks perfect.
Anyone know what the song is?
Also, Reverend, I can’t be sure, but sincerely hope, that that was just changed for the trailer, make it more, shall we saaayyy…appropriate?
It sounds like the Pirate Story part of the movie will be released separately on DVD around time this comes to theatres, the on one of the editions of the DVD, the special edition will intertwine the main story with it for a mega-length movie.
Only those who’ve read Watchmen will know what im talking about
Rob
“Tales of the Black Freighter” will be on the DVD release..I’m sure there will be more than one version of this released on DVD and BluRay. The story arc of the Black Freighter is very surreal and it parallel’s the story line of one of the characters from the Watchmen.. It is based on song from “Seeräuberjenny” from Bertolt Brecht’s Threepenny Opera. It was made into an AMerican movie in 1990 called “Mack the Knife” with Raul Julia and Roger Daltry of The WHo…It just goes to show the depth of the writing of Alan Moore..He is brilliant indeed..
Cheers
Sorry
on the song “Seeräuberjenny” from Bertolt Brecht’s Threepenny Opera.
Geez Louise..getting excited here!!

Let me post this edit you @$$#$
Finally Watchmen gettin some love…
Actually if I am not mistaken (if I am I’m sure enough of you will pick up on it
) the DVD “Tales of the Black Freighter” will be released on it’s own DVD the week the Watchmen movie is released, as a tie in. It will be animated(not CGI) and will also be included in the extended DVD/BluRay release of the Watchmen when it comes out in that format later next year. It will actually be included as a part of the storyline of the extended cut!!
quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Cheers
This is the movie I really want them to get right next year.
I won’t be seeing this…I first read Watchmen as a teenager and knew this was something different. This is NOT a story that can be told in 2 hours and wrapped in a nice little bow for Hollywood

Gotta be my point exactly on the quote– this movie would be way to rough for such a select audience to actually be a Watchmen film.
Unlike other hero films, you cannot have an “intro” movie for The Watchmen.
Rev
I had read one of the original plans was to make it a 4 hour miniseries on cable..I think that would have been more appropriate and you wouldn’t have to alter for the sake of the casual audience
And the ending is not typical superhero fanfare either…
This seems to be a very good movie. Can’t wait for it to come out. Keep up the good work.

Smashing Pumpkins - “The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning”…not to be confused with faster paced/differently lyricked “The End Is The Beginning Is The End,” which was on the soundtrack to the craptast-o-fest known as “Batman and Robin.” The track in question was one of four songs on the CD single…and despite its rarity/B-side status will soon be burning up the iTunes charts, no doubt, with this exposure.
