‘Warehouse 13′ Cancelled by Syfy

Warehouse 13 HG Wells Stickup Warehouse 13 Cancelled by Syfy

Since 2009, Warehouse 13 has offered a quirkier alternative to the darker science fiction serials offered by the Syfy network. The tale of government agents tasked with recovering artifacts of supernatural or super-scientific origin has garnered a decent cult following over the years.

Though Agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McLintock), Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), and Artie Nelson (Saul Rubinek) have survived everything from rage-inducing combs to a malevolently resurrected H.G. Wells, there’s one thing the heroes of Warehouse 13 can’t escape: network cancellation. In a move sure to disappoint loyal fans, Syfy has decided to discontinue the series.

EW reports that Warehouse 13‘s fifth season will be its last. Already truncated to just six episodes, the series will officially end in 2014. Syfy President of Original Content, Mark Stern, stated:

“Warehouse 13 has been an incredible signature series for us… We are grateful to the loyal and passionate fan base and know that Jack Kenny, his gifted creative team, and outstanding ensemble cast will give them an amazing finale season.”

This is an odd move on the part of Syfy, given that season 4 of Warehouse 13 has yet to finish and production of its follow-up won’t begin until mid-summer. The series is still pulling in decent numbers for the network (though its week-to-week ratings have fluctuated this season). So, why cancel a well-liked and well-watched show?

One possibility pertains to Warehouse 13‘s current lead-in series, Defiance. Defiance was a heavy investment for Syfy – a cross-media experiment designed so that an MMORPG video game and television show could actively promote and influence one another. Since Defiance has been officially picked up for a second season, it may be that Syfy is trying to free up more budget resources for the expensive property by cutting Warehouse 13 short.

Of course, this is all just speculation. It may be that Warehouse 13 was designed to end in its fifth season, and these final six episodes are truly its intended swan song. If so, this may end up being a blessing in disguise for the series’ fans. After all, it’s always a shame to watch a favorite show outlive its charm.

Warehouse 13 will continue to air its current season on Syfy on Monday nights.

  1. I cannot believe that Syfy did it again, starting to sound like a terrible Britney Spears song! I cannot stand by and just do nothing here, my favorite show is being canceled. After Eureka, SGU, SGA, Alphas, and many more.. I don’t know if Syfy is trying to push away their most ardent viewers. It is sad that the best syfy shows are no longer on the Syfy network. The Walking Dead and Falling Skies outright beats anything on Syfy now – except the Wharehouse 13 concept. Lets make some better decisions here. Keep WH 13!!

    • Sci-fi or should I say syfy. First it the sci-fi shows they cancel WTF your a sci-fi channel. Now they are starting to cancel their ghost hunting shows. Whats next the TV station will take itself off the air in a couple years. Syfy needs to stop cancelling everything. It has become replaced the sci-fi show with a fantasy show now replace the fantasy with a game show now replace that with reality now ghost hunting back to sci-fi now wait we could fit a classic show in that spot na cancel it and put sports. SyFy showed change it catch phase to Imagine Cancellations.

  2. This is one of my favourite Syfy shows. Loved they brought in Steve and how he works with Claudia. And Pete and Myka. Again, a bad decision made to cancel a great fun show.

  3. Another D**k move aby Syfy; for what? So we can watch more fake gator shows? Unbelievable….they might as well run brain-drain reality programming…Warehouse 13 was smart and educational, and fun. I’m just NOT happy with SyFy, cx that and Dresden Files. Absolutely idiotic.

  4. You got rid of eureka , now warehouse 13 why didn’t you ask if we wanted to lose them. We know that the people who watching your channel do not matter to your higher up’s. You are running out of shows that I watch on your channel. Soon I will no longer bother with your channel.

  5. Well i thought this would hapen as soon as you find a show you love bang its gone .it seems to be a trend 4 or 5seasons
Lets just hope it ends well

  6. It’s terrible that u get into a show and without warning poof it’s gone

  7. OK. This is just stupid. The WH13 concept is unique to anything on TV. The lead-in show stinks. I didn’t particularly care for Haven or Eureka. SyFy is obviously rudderless. A real network might be able to give them some direction but sadly…the best concept show on TV will be a victim. Just freakin’ wrong.

  8. Last show I get into on the siffy network. They have a long standing reputation of not caring about their loyal fans. Maybe they will make a great mash up of wrestlers fighting sharks on a plane in space and draw me back in…..just sayin…

  9. The only thing I can hope for is season 5 ending with the beginning of Warehouse 14 with Claudia at the helm. Are you listening, Netflix?

  10. SyFy channel is owned by NBC Universal which is a subdivision of Comcast. Program decisions of SyFy went to crap after Comcast bought NBC. Who cancels shows with loyal followers like Eureka and WH13? Feels like Comcastistic decisions to me.

  11. Ouch. So dissapointed. This network has nothing to offer me.

  12. Well once again the idiots at nbc universal have managed to screw another great program by getting rid of it! This is officially the fake wrestling bad c-movie channel now..defiance sucks, as does most of the rest of their programming now, wh13 was all they had going for them, whats next on the chopping block Haven?

  13. Why cancel? So many shows with loyal followers….it makes no sense. I despise the trash wrasseling, violence ugly nothing for a syfy fan.

  14. Well with the way Comcast service works for us I can see them cancelling my favorite show. Maybe we should all cancel NBC and comcast. Almost did yesterday. Not joking on that either.

  15. I’m so pissed!!! Just like Firefly, Alphas, Eureka and now WH13. WTF??!!!

    • To be fair, Firefly was originally on FOX and due to those morons showing the episodes out of order the show was cancelled and no more episodes were made.

  16. The networks never poll the audience for their likes or dislikes just yank the best shows and replace with crap. Please rethink cancelling Warehouse 13. The best thing running.

  17. This was 1 of my favorite shows and I hate that it’s ending and ending with so few more new episodes. Let’s face it, the programming on the SyFy channel leaves a lot to be desired. I like Defiance but other than that they really have a lot of shows I would not even consider science fiction and/or just stupid stuff. And don’t get me started on the lame movies. I would say everyone can go to their Facebook page to complain but don’t count on a response. I posted a question and never got a reply and have been waiting weeks. I really wish another network would have picked up the show instead of it just being over, but I know how rare that is.

  18. This show was often silly and weighed down with humor that fell flat, but when it cooked, it really cooked — which is more than I can say about “Defiance”, which started out with the most inept law-enforcement I have ever seen: *nobody* handcuffed by the local authorities kept their cuffs on for more than a little while, and the repetitive “escapes” got pretty boring. The aliens were utterly un-alien, just variations on cowboys, outlaws, the ambitious cattle-baron, the Sheriff, and the corrupt local mayor. Anybody remember the range of aliens in that space station series whose name absolutely escapes me at the moment? Black station captain, lots of refugees from space wars, ambassadors, traders, etc? THAT was a great show. ‘Warehouse 13″ was fun. “Defiance” is a really bad take-off on “Gunsmoke”. I’d like to see something fresh from SyFy, but I guess that’s too much to ask. We live in an age of knock-offs, sequels, and imitations, and it takes real nerve to rise above that dreary plain of disappointments. Still, I try to stay hopeful.

  19. Comcast has switched its focus to owning content which is why they bought NBC Universal. Unfortunately for us, everything Comcast touches goes to s***. Rumor has it NBC Universal over extended Defiance budget, driven by the heavy marketing campaigne including the video game which didn’t meet projected returns. Comcast reportedly demanded cuts to sop up the financial loss which put WH13 on the chopping block. Firefly and Eureka were great, Alphas had potential and I’ll miss WH13. Comcast is evil; SyFy is doomed. I’m tired of mourning the loss of good tv programming.

  20. Warehouse 13 is the only thing i watch on that network. Guess i can drop it off my favorites after the 2014 season.

  21. the guys in charge at nbc were hard at work in the late sixties. the cancellation axe fell on Star Trek(how’d that work out?)… now the same house (with different guys in control ?!?) cancel stuff like chuck, eureka, warehouse 13 and heroes! who’s the guy that will make millions off your decisions this time, NBC-UNIVERSAL-COMCAST???

  22. Is SyFy trying to self destruct. All they know how to do is cancel popular series. Stargate Atlantis, Eureka, Alphas, and now Warehouse 13. I guess the prefer blood and cheese to quirky, intelligant SciFi.

Wrestling and cheesy blood movies seem to prevail.

RIP SyFy – you have lost your cache

  23. You clown bigwigs might just want to ask your viewing public what the hell they like to watch, before blindly removing a series that has been working quite frikkin well for your network for a number of friggin years.
If you don’t like the idea of your program coming on over here to the other side of the pond, and come to New Zealand, then why promote your goddam fine prog over here? You get me interested, then die. You are seriously starting to piss me off, and no matter who you are, you DON’T want that. Let’s see how you guys find having nothing to find? ;)
    Yes I’m ranting ;)

    • and Artie is my miniature hero ;)

    • and Artie is my miniature hero ;) I won’t let him go. he is a part of my program ;/

  24. And no, his story is not quite complete… ;)

  25. Thought syfy was better than network tv but guess not by sayin good bye to good programs like warehouse 13 etc

  26. I give up. You Syfy doesn’t care about the quality of their programs. What moron makes these judgments. Somebody give them their brains back. Please!

  27. U guys suck Warehouse 13 rocks what r u thinkn FOOLS

  28. Let’s cancel all the quality shows like Warehouse, Eureka, and Alphas that are family friendly and replace with no family friendly violent horror shows or reality tv. That makes total sense. After Warehouse 13 is gone I don’t think I will stick around anymore nor will my family and friends. Disappointing and another network falling in line with all the other reality tv show or violent network shows.

  29. This is complete and utter BS! Screw syfy channel this is just making my brain explode idgaf what channel but some channel better pick warehouse 13 and eureka. FFS 2 fave sows both canned at the 5th season by bloody idiots at syfy.
