‘Warehouse 13′ Cancelled by Syfy

Warehouse 13 HG Wells Stickup Warehouse 13 Cancelled by Syfy

Since 2009, Warehouse 13 has offered a quirkier alternative to the darker science fiction serials offered by the Syfy network. The tale of government agents tasked with recovering artifacts of supernatural or super-scientific origin has garnered a decent cult following over the years.

Though Agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McLintock), Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), and Artie Nelson (Saul Rubinek) have survived everything from rage-inducing combs to a malevolently resurrected H.G. Wells, there’s one thing the heroes of Warehouse 13 can’t escape: network cancellation. In a move sure to disappoint loyal fans, Syfy has decided to discontinue the series.

EW reports that Warehouse 13‘s fifth season will be its last. Already truncated to just six episodes, the series will officially end in 2014. Syfy President of Original Content, Mark Stern, stated:

“Warehouse 13 has been an incredible signature series for us… We are grateful to the loyal and passionate fan base and know that Jack Kenny, his gifted creative team, and outstanding ensemble cast will give them an amazing finale season.”

This is an odd move on the part of Syfy, given that season 4 of Warehouse 13 has yet to finish and production of its follow-up won’t begin until mid-summer. The series is still pulling in decent numbers for the network (though its week-to-week ratings have fluctuated this season). So, why cancel a well-liked and well-watched show?

Warehouse 13 Agents Warehouse 13 Cancelled by Syfy

One possibility pertains to Warehouse 13‘s current lead-in series, Defiance. Defiance was a heavy investment for Syfy – a cross-media experiment designed so that an MMORPG video game and television show could actively promote and influence one another. Since Defiance has been officially picked up for a second season, it may be that Syfy is trying to free up more budget resources for the expensive property by cutting Warehouse 13 short.

Of course, this is all just speculation. It may be that Warehouse 13 was designed to end in its fifth season, and these final six episodes are truly its intended swan song. If so, this may end up being a blessing in disguise for the series’ fans. After all, it’s always a shame to watch a favorite show outlive its charm.

Warehouse 13 will continue to air its current season on Syfy on Monday nights.

  1. I loved this show until it started slipping social engineering propaganda into it. It’s not surprising, the creator behind it also killed Buffy the Vampire Slayer by trying to push an agenda that simply didn’t belong there.

I will miss the chemistry between Pete and Myka and the father daughter vibe of Claudia and Artie…it was really good stuff.

If you think I’m crazy just go to imdb and check the profiles of the shows creators and see some of the other damage she has done.

    • I was interested in what you said, and went to imdb. J Espenson is a big fan of gay love; heterosexuality is for procreation. That explains Willow and Steve’s characters. I wonder if that had anything to do with Warehouse 13 being destroyed by SyFy.

  2. It’s a real shame when you cancel a great show like Warehouse 13. First it was Eureka and now this. Defiance is something I won’t watch. It’s just way too dark of a show. SYFY is beginning to show there inability to listen to what the fans want. Heads should roll on the network. DON’T cancel another great program!

    • I agree, Paul!!! I LOVED Warehouse 13- especially when they would have my fave actress-Lindsey Wagner- on!(She is the only celeb who I have an autographed pic from.) I will miss getting to see her on that show! I do NOT watch Defiance nor Eureka! Warehouse 13 will be a huge loss for the network!! ALTHOUGH…SYFY could drop the “Face Off” show- or it’s ‘baby’, “Heroes of Cosplay”–what point does that show serve? “FaceOff” is enough…OR drop some of the Ghost Adventure type shows… all night to replay reruns? PUH-LEEEEZ!!! Rather watch a night of “Warehouse13″, “Lost Girl”, and “HAVEN”. Of course, the CHILLER channel could pick up W-13 since they also show “Lost Girl”. ;)

    • I agree, heads SHOULD most definitely roll at SyFi channel! Not only should they keep Warehouse 13 on the air, I believe they should bring back Eureka. In my opinion they were the two best shows on TV, bar none. But then I am just a fan and SyFi channel has proven they do NOT listen to their fans and treat us with disdain.

  3. Why end tv seasons if the people love it
First erukea what was great you guys can still continue it
    And now this
What has the world come to
    No reason to end

  4. This saddens me…I really got into watching warehouse 13 when they did the crossover with Eureka. I must admit that I don’t like that they had Steve be gay! If it’s mentioned in passing, fine. There’s not that many “encounters” involving the other characters…And that’s why I liked it. The tension is one thing, but too much kissy face really ruins it for me!
I am really disappointed at the SYFY channels inability to see a good thing and keep offering the good shows! Don’t cancel Warehouse 13!!

  5. That is a shame. We just got hooked on it on netflix. Neat series. Has everything people want to see in a show; twists and turns, excitement, and humor. Why is it when a network gets an excellent series that people enjoy they cancel it? Poor judgment by management does not lead to an award winning network.

  6. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT !!! I love this show. They seem to hate it when a show has originality, fantasy and magic. The 4400 was wonderful until it degenerated into a government versus them, like X-Files did. Among my fantasy favorites were No Ordinary Family, Unnatural History and Flash Forward, and realistic shows, Harry’s Law and PanAm, all cancelled. These were great shows with good plot lines, acting and originality. Why the networks seem to go for the lowest common denominator while canning these great programs shows they do NOT care for the viewers opinions. This has happened too many times and exhibits their callous indifference to us and our opinions!!!

  7. I am truly disappointed that sifi cancelled Warehouse 13. I really enjoined Eureka then it got cancelled, now I enjoy Warehouse 13. I guess I have to enjoy the ghost shows (maybe that will get them cancelled). Too bad sifi you had a loyal watcher.

  8. Boo! Syfy sucks, they should get rid of wrestling. They cancel all of their sci fi shows and add crap. So boo !!! Warehouse 13 is the last good show on this NBC dumping ground…
    I’m done with syfy…

  9. This Sucks……..

  10. I love this show. I hate Main Stream television and one of the reasons I hate getting hooked on a show, they always cancel the good ones and keep crap like NCIS or Grey’s Anatamoy. Who cares about Cop shows and emergency rooms shows. They are all the same.

  11. I love “Warehouse 13″! Wish they would stop cancelling the good shows!

    • So true I feel the same way

      • I agree. Just like sgu. Ugh.

  12. That Sucks I love this show syfy is stupid for cancelibg it

  13. Love Warehouse 13 much better than Defiance. The characters work great together. Very disappointed it is cancelled.

  14. I found this show by accident during the 1st season. I cannot understand why they would cancel the case is awsome and the story lines are endless. I guess we need more ghost hunters, NOT! No reason to watch syfy now.

  15. Netflix should finance new episodes, or co-finance with SyFy maybe. Bet SyFy axes shows when cast starts pushing for raises. I admire what they extract at times from what must be shoestring budgets, though.

  16. Typical of syfy to end a show once they get you hooked same as sanctuary now cancelling warehouse 13 syfy isn’t even worth watching anymore

  17. Syfy is the worst channel on TV. I hated that Warehouse 13 came on this channel, but I suffered through all the long and stupid commercials. I’ll be sorry to see this GREAT show go off the air, but i’m glad not to be on the SYFY channel.

  18. BIG mistake Syfy. That was the only show I watched on your stupid network.

    Say goodbye to another customer…

  19. Agree with tlk: NO REASON TO WATCH syfy ANYMORE.

  20. Long list of dead shows continues. May be it’s time to gave up on syfy
pity they do not care about fans. SG universe , Star trek enterprise, WH-13, Eureka…

  21. No, no, no, no!!! Why would you cancel a show with such a large fan base? More reality t.v.? We have had enough of that crap. It is SyFy channel, is it not? Sooo, a science fiction series would be apropos, would it not? Bad move, very bad move! Keep Warehouse 13 on! Please listen to the fans for once.

  22. SyFi has canceled yet another great show, I have to agree with some of the other comments here, its time to give up on SyFi. They keep cancelling good shows and keeping the ones that should go away. Bottom line is don’t get hooked on any shows on SyFi, they are sure to be cancelled, and basically speaking there just in no reason to watch that network anymore. They should just rename there network Reality TV and stop disgracing the name SyFi.

  23. syfy sucks. i’m sick of “reality” shows. i watch syfy FOR sci-fi. it’s like when MTV (MUSIC TELEVISION) stopped showing music videos. stopped watching that station too. there’s just about nothing left for me to watch on syfy anymore. btw syfy what’s the deal with wrestling on syfy? maybe that’s the plan… killing syfy and rebranding the station to something even more profitable. forget about the people that actually watch tv right?

  24. It’s too bad the SyFi network is not more tuned in to it’s watchers. I only watched the channel for 2 shows: Eureka and Warehouse 13. When Warehouse 13 is gone, I won’t be watching anymore. I didn’t like Defiance.
    Good bye, SyFi.

  25. It may or may not be too late for this, but would anyone else be interested in creating an online petition to contest this decision? Shows- great, clever shows- like Alphas and Warehouse 13 and even Fox’s Firefly always seem to get the axe well before they deserve it! Media-moguls and bigwigs of corporations behind networks like SyFy really need to pull their heads out of their anal cavities, screw them straight on their necks again, and unclog their ears of all of the sh*t that is stuck in there so that they can actually listen to the wants of their viewers. I hope, if nothing else, that we Warehouse-ites at least get some closure in the (depressingly) short fifth season that will air.

Go drown in the Gooery, SyFy executives.

  26. I love this show. It is the perfect combination of funny along with sci fi drama, great characters who have chemistry and good acting. I see no reason for it to end. I too am so tired of the overabundance of reality shows. I do like Defiance but that is no reason to lose this great show. Lose the stupid reality shows.

  27. I totally agree about slipping in the “gay” issues. It seems no matter what you watch writers are trying to slip that stupid issue in just to accommodate them or to try draw them in but what they really do is alienate the larger audience which is heterosexual and straight. This show has really gone downhill and has had very little advertising lately. They have not ran re-runs of past seasons to keep people interested or to try to get new audience members. They have just let the show die which I think is a real shame. Whoever this particular writer is needs to be flagged all across TV land for what she has done.

  28. Farscape is showing on PIVOT and Stargate Atlantis is showing on Universal.
