‘Warehouse 13′ Cancelled by Syfy

Warehouse 13 HG Wells Stickup Warehouse 13 Cancelled by Syfy

Since 2009, Warehouse 13 has offered a quirkier alternative to the darker science fiction serials offered by the Syfy network. The tale of government agents tasked with recovering artifacts of supernatural or super-scientific origin has garnered a decent cult following over the years.

Though Agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McLintock), Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), and Artie Nelson (Saul Rubinek) have survived everything from rage-inducing combs to a malevolently resurrected H.G. Wells, there’s one thing the heroes of Warehouse 13 can’t escape: network cancellation. In a move sure to disappoint loyal fans, Syfy has decided to discontinue the series.

EW reports that Warehouse 13‘s fifth season will be its last. Already truncated to just six episodes, the series will officially end in 2014. Syfy President of Original Content, Mark Stern, stated:

“Warehouse 13 has been an incredible signature series for us… We are grateful to the loyal and passionate fan base and know that Jack Kenny, his gifted creative team, and outstanding ensemble cast will give them an amazing finale season.”

This is an odd move on the part of Syfy, given that season 4 of Warehouse 13 has yet to finish and production of its follow-up won’t begin until mid-summer. The series is still pulling in decent numbers for the network (though its week-to-week ratings have fluctuated this season). So, why cancel a well-liked and well-watched show?

Warehouse 13 Agents Warehouse 13 Cancelled by Syfy

One possibility pertains to Warehouse 13‘s current lead-in series, Defiance. Defiance was a heavy investment for Syfy – a cross-media experiment designed so that an MMORPG video game and television show could actively promote and influence one another. Since Defiance has been officially picked up for a second season, it may be that Syfy is trying to free up more budget resources for the expensive property by cutting Warehouse 13 short.

Of course, this is all just speculation. It may be that Warehouse 13 was designed to end in its fifth season, and these final six episodes are truly its intended swan song. If so, this may end up being a blessing in disguise for the series’ fans. After all, it’s always a shame to watch a favorite show outlive its charm.

Warehouse 13 will continue to air its current season on Syfy on Monday nights.

  1. I realize a show can’t last forever but warehouse 13 is getting cancelled before its time. It’s one of the last shows I can watch with my kids. It has history and magic. After the show is over on Mondays my kids and I will usually goggle the artifact and learn about the history in that episode. HG wells being a women was a genius idea. I know I can’t change the networks mind about canceling the show but I can say that you may have lost an entire family’s support in SYFY. Too much bled shed in the other shows and they are not appropriate for my kids. I know 100 comments will not make a difference but this is what makes our country great is that I can voice my opinion. I wish you would continue the show or at least let us know what happens to the warehouse and Myka.

    • Warehouse 13 made my family come closer. Monday night is Warehouse 13. Please give family with children SOMETHING to watch. WONDERFUL AND SPECIAL TV. PLEASE THINK AND GIVE IT ONE MORE SEASON.

  2. Too many fantastic shows seem to get cancelled for supposedly poor ratings. Warehouse 13 continues to be as fresh and exciting as ever and my family looks forward to watching it every week. No sex or excessive violence, it is a show with something for the whole family. There’s myth and legend, magic and intrigue and a welcome break from all the reality tv shows which are constantly churned out in the uk. If syfy cancel anymore shows there will be nothing else decent to watch.

  3. I love Warehouse 13, I also like Defiance, if I had to chose between the two it would be Warehouse 13 hands down. Defiance has all of the shock factors in it that has just become such common place in the programs of today. Warehouse 13 keeps you involved in each program because they are all just so unique. PLEASE KEEP WAREHOUSE 13.

  4. To cancel a show with declinig ratings/viewers is a normal process, but with Warehouse 13 it should not go this way and not that fast, despite or because the actual main character has the same name as the founder of the evaluation model, which now kills the show.
Warehouse 13 has humor, style, good and likeable actors, interesting stories and locations, and is sometimes thrilling. There are good actors, nice scripts, fine guest stars, interesting and far-fetched stories and premises, mostly well, when not, from time to time, brilliantly executed.
Furthermore, it’s potential is far not exhausted by now.
There could be a lot more stories and artefacts, a lot more problems to solve, for at least two or three further seasons.
People of all ages do like W13 for one of the characteristics mentioned above.
And maybe somes kid are motivated to find out the truth about historic events and persons occuring in the show, like the Count of Saint Germain (superbly depicted by James Marsters), or now Paracelsus, who was of course not a rude alchemist but an ambitious medical doctor (Agrippa von Nettesheim would have been better as he was more an experimenting alchemist than Paracelsus).
Why the ratings really declined has to be analyzed and then there have to be taken the proper measures to correct, which I would locate in better storytelling/scriptwriting/evolving the charcters and so on.
To throw away a gem is of no good for the thrower. And W13 is a rare gem of a show that is simply engoying the audience., especially when it shines, which occurs not so seldom.

What I mainly hate about this decision is that there seems to be no way to continue the show on another channel. They cannot go for a Warehouse 13.1 or 14 (which should be then located in China ? sorry for the little joke) say, on NBC or Fox, if Syfy won’t let them, and they won’t for sure.

I think there should be a huge outburst of resistance against the cancellation of W13. Only this could make the Channel rethink and renew. Please, people, do something about !
(and please excuse my bad English)

  5. I love the show. My family and many of my friends love the show! I know lots okf people who look forward to watching it.Every time we find something we love it gets cancelled. I don’t think this show has poor ratings I think that’s bull! Really whoevers in charge of this decision should re-think it. I agree with the other comments that there isn’t much on that a family of all ages can share, especially with all the crap and phoney reality shows on tv, try leaving something GOOD on for a change and cancel all the over sexed, badly acted, badly written garbage. The world needs more hopeful stuff to watch not just death, destruction, violence and slutty men and women. Thanks for your time

  6. We look foward to watching this every week. We are getting tired of good shows getting cancelled this is a very poor decision on your part. These type of shows are why we watch thes syfy channel. If you cancell this very well liked show than we might as well cancell the syfy channel. We need more shows like wearhouse and defiance!

  7. it had great chemistry between the actors, was funny and had a great flow. the really sad thing is that they will probably spend the money on making another CRAPPY reality show. This channel is becoming to science fiction as to what MTV became to music videos

  8. Why do you all cancel shows that are amazingly awesome, this is a bunch of bull s h i t not very f u c k I n g happy you are cancelling this show, you need to think more of the people watching you’re f u c k I n g shows then the f u c k i n g money going in you’re pockets F u c k YOU all.

  9. I find that Syfy cancelling good shows makes it harder to watch shows with your family. Personally I don’t care for Defiance, it’s just what all other shows on every other channel is.. sex, sex, and more sex..

I think this show gives kids a liking for history which is being lost, we are losing good and great shows to sex, stupidity, and honey boo boo.. and then we wonder why our kids these days are growing up to quick and thinking only of sex.

Please find a way to keep WH13 because as families we need shows like this to watch..

    • Couldn’t have said it better. I agree 100%.

  10. My family loves this show. Please reconsider and not cancel.

  11. Please do not cancel!!! Great show and actors. Will stop watching SciFi channel, nothing else is worth watching on this channel.

  12. I am absolutely heart broken, Warehouse 13 is my favourite show and I know I’m not the only person who will miss it.

  13. There are other shows and things that could be canceled in place of Warehouse 13. My son an I grew closer because of an attachment to Warehouse 13. I know there are shows that simply wane and drift off. In the words of Def Leppard, “It’s better to burn out than fade away.” I don’t believe Warehouse 13 was anywhere near burning out, let alone fading away. There are those shows that simply fade, but this isn’t one of them. I am very appreciative they get their final episodes. There are plenty of shows that have to throw together a final episode in a hurry, or they get canceled without warning. I just know Warehouse 13 could keep going without burning out (for a long time) or fading away(for a very long time). They have so much more they could offer. I appreciate they get a chance to wrap things up. I am hopeful my son and I have found another series or two to latch on to so that we will have things to talk about and find in common.

    • FYI, yes, I am divorced and my son just became a teenager. The fact we have even one thing we can still bond over is awesome. I hope we can find something else, since we both love this show, and we both hate to see it go away.

  14. Warehouse 13 is hands down my favorite show and to see that it has been canceled is more than heartbreaking. My whole family loves the show and I’m not talking about children. I’m talking about my brother and his wife and my parents. We all love it. The characters are so creative and the acting and story are even better. I can’t believe that you are taking away one of the best shows on your network. First Eureka and Alphas and now this? What the heck? You have no loyalty to your viewers. Stop canceling good shows.

  15. Am really disappointed by the cancellation of Warehouse 13, one of the very few great shows on Syfy. They spend thousands of dollars making absolute junk movies, instead of developing great series like Eureka and Warehouse 13. Case in point, the awful movie about the Philadelphia Experiment which could have been very good. Shame on you Syfy; I expected better

  16. You can cancelled all you want but warehouse 13 is way better then defiance.I prefrered to watch warehouse 13 then defiance

  17. 1st you take away eureka and now warehouse 13 I’m so disappointed with syfy. It’s really sad that they feel the need to rip great shows off the air. Stop investing in horrible low budget movies about sharks and put more effort and money in your quality shows whom fans support! I was raised watching syfy and now after they remove this show ill have no urge to tune in. Crappy move syfy crappy move!!!

  18. Goodbye SyFy. Tired of watching good shows and having you cancel them. I did the fool me once too many times with you, I’m done.

  19. Bye bye sy fy.

  20. This is one of the best shows that I have watched and if cacel it myself and my family, along with thousands of other fans will lower our licking of the syfy Chanel and I know I will stop watching it because this is the one decent show on it.

  21. First you cancel Eureka….(a great family show), now you go after Warehouse 13 so you can keep going with Defiance? Please make the right choice if you need to nuke one, get rid of Defiance! Warehouse 13 is fun each week with humor that even we 50+ year olds enjoy. It’s one of the few shows on TV that everyone in my family actually can watch. And best of all it’s not another reality show. The actors are great, and the fact that some history is included each week makes it a really well rounded show. Please keep it on the air!

  22. I have watched all of Eureka shows; and you take it away. Now you want to take warehouse 13 away. What is your deal syfy? I don’t even watch defiance. What a waste of a channel now: you have lost another viewer after warehouse 13 is taken off the air.

  23. Just like Syfy to nuke this wonderful show, just like they nuked Eureka – – – Defiance is dumb. The rest of their lineup is pretty much crap too. What a WASTE.

  24. First Eureka and now this? Syfy needs to come up with something better than Defiance to keep my interest. Well written and funny. What a waste.

  25. Once again, this channel shows how narrow sited its’ programming really is. If the problem is consistent ratings, maybe they would see an improvement by keeping the season together rather than teasing viewers with a few episodes and the making us wait six months for more. I have already stopped watching ANYTHING new on scifi (I hate the syfy logo)because it is so frustrating to keep uyp with a story line and just to know when a new episode will be aired. That along with their track record of cancelling good shows i.e. Sanctuary,Alphas etc hass caused me to have no interest in becoming involved in any new programs.

  26. If it comes down to Defiane or Warehouse 13 the latter should win hands down. I watched the first two episodes of Defiance and it was definitely not something that I would continue to watch – too dark for me. I have faithfully watched W13, and I hope that if they do discontinue it that thet at least film a satisfactory ending to the show!

  27. SyFy has made a tragic mistake. I hope someone picks the show up and make a fool of you. We do not need continued alien hate, violence and BS. Warehouse 13 is the most imginative family friendly show. Very dissapointed.

  28. i cannnot belive that you would cancle this show especially after that last episode. how can you rap up this show in just 6 episodes. syfy you are being stupid. if anything defiance should go. its all sex and kids cant watch that with their families. i started watching warehouse 13 with my parents and got instantly hooked…my little sister watches it and she is 10. she loves it to. that and haven. please please reconcider

  29. Flood the.syfy netwook with pleas to continue this show. It is great!
