As we step closer and closer to Halloween and the highly anticipated premiere of The Walking Dead live-action TV series on AMC, we’re getting  a deeper look into what went into the series production and what makes this show special, and more than just another standard installment to the zombie genre.

Three TV Spots for The Walking Dead were released a few weeks ago and AMC has just released three new videos about the series which look at what the show’s lead character Rick Grimes and its story are truely about, and adapting the series from Robert Kirkman’s successful graphic novels.

Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) has put together a strong cast of veteran actors to represent the key characters of The Walking Dead. Watch as they along with the series producers talk about the series an why it’s arguable the most anticipated show of this Fall TV line-up.

Inside The Walking Dead: It’s About Survival

Graphic novel series creator Robert Kirkman, series showrunner Frank Darabont and several of The Walking Dead cast discuss the series, describing it as a drama about people in “heart-wrenching” situations. There are zombies in this show but since the beginning, it’s been emphasized that it’s not about the zombies, they just provide the backdrop to the situation we find the characters in.

Inside The Walking Dead: From Comic Book to TV

Robert Kirkman started The Walking Dead series back in 2003 for Image Comics and since then the infamously black and white comic (all 77 issues of it to date) has been met with fan and critical acceptance. Watch Kirkman talk about the transformation from page to screen and how Darabont was drawn to the material since the moment he picked up his first issue five years ago.

The Walking Dead: Who is Rick Grimes?

British actor Andrew Lincoln earned the coveted television acting gig as the start of The Walking Dead, officer Rick Grimes. Much of the series, and especially its introduction is told through the eyes of Grimes and you can learn more about his character with this video:

Ever since AMC won the rights to The Walking Dead two years ago, and even more so when Frank Darabont took on the project, there has been an incredible amount of excitement about the potential of this series. From everything we’ve seen so far, and the involvement of creator Robert Kirkman, this series stands to be something special.

The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Michael Rooker, Sarah Wayne Callies and Laurie Holdenairs. It airs on AMC this Halloween, October 31st, so dress up as a zombie and put this on at 10/9c. If you haven’t done so already, check out the first official Walking Dead trailer.

  1. Very much looking forward to this – but I’ll be watching it alone. Wife and daughter aren’t into zombie-themed entertainment. :)

    Vic

  2. Rick Grimes might just be my favorite fictional character ever. This series is by far the most anticipated I have ever had for a series. I’m just worried about “The Governor” later on in the series and how they will adapt it.

    • me to acslaterson, from the get go i was trying to figure out how they’re going to get away with HALF of what goes on during that story arch.

    • Him and Jesse Custer, I agree. Rick is a very well written character with so much depth, flaws, and love for those he loves. I loved the change in him over time throughout the books and can’t wait for the change to happen on the tube.

  3. Can’t wait for this to air. Definitely my most looked-forward show of the fall.

  4. The Governor will be a stretch however Im sure certain aspects will be left out. Like the kissing and nailing. :D

However to have a person such as him in charge and work out the issues in the same manner there really is not that big of a problem in keeping it in context.

Regardless this looks fantastic and all the people involved seem very adamant about making it the best.

I hope all the original people (actors/writers/directors/ etc) stay on board until the end.

    • Do you think the “poo spoon” will be cut?
