walking dead nycc 2013 The Walking Dead Season 4 NYCC Panel; Abraham Announced

One of the most talked-about dramas on television is back – as The Walking Dead season 4 premieres on Sunday, October 13th. Following a number of heartbreaking twists, and an introduction to one of the comic book’s most-feared villains, the Governor, in season 3, Rick Grimes, Michonne, and the rest of the survivors aren’t safe yet – as the showrunners have promised an even darker tone and more zombies, along with new challenges, in the coming weeks. Could season 4 (watch the trailer) be the best chapter in the fan-favorite show so far – not to mention help set-up the recently announced 2015 companion series?

The cast and crew of the show came to New York Comic Con 2013 to help get fans excited.

PANEL

  • Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) is moderating The Walking Dead panel with Gale Anne Hurd (executive producer), David Alpert (executive producer), Robert Kirkman (creator), Scott M. Gimple (writer), Greg Nicotero (executive producer in a zombie mask), Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Chad L. Coleman (Tyreese), Steven Yeun (Glen), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), and Norman Reedus (Daryl).
  • Michael Cudlitz (Southland) has been cast as fan-favorite character Sgt. Abraham Ford!
  • Showing new footage – a longer take of the scene outside of the grocery store. Followed by an ominous shot of a downed helicopter.
  • Yuhn says he had another show lined up that didn’t pan out – and he’s very happy he ended up on The Walking Dead instead.
  • Kirkman says that he thought Chad L. Coleman should play Tyreese – long before there was a Walking Dead show.
  • Lincoln says he still gets surprised at things that happen on the show – talking about when he had to cut off Hershel’s leg. Gurira says he chopped off the leg ten times.
  • Gurira and Lincoln deny that there is currently a “Richonne” love story starting. Lincoln thinks that it’ll be awhile before Rick gets romantic again.
  • Gimple says there is a lot of action at the fence – but a swan neck cane is the coolest new way of killing walkers.

Q&A

  • Kirkman says that the Telltale video game characters could make it on to the show at some point. Nicotero claims Michonne is pointing to Macon (where part of the game takes place) in the Season 4 trailer.
  • Gimble says that Carol has grown a lot as a character on the show – especially since she’s teaching kids about knives in the trailer. Claims that she was a victim and is now teaching other people how not to be victimized.
  • Gimble asserts that it’s always hard to kill characters (and see it happen on screen) but says that the actors understand – and sometimes they only know a week or so ahead of time. Says that Michael Rooker had a lot of input when he exited the show. Lincoln says it’s always hard to lose characters but as long as the series honors the actors and their roles with each death, it makes the story even stronger.
  • Andrew Lincoln says that if he were to play someone else it would be Carl (Chandler Riggs) who Lincoln says will “kick ass” in episode 9 this season.
  • Reedus teases that Daryl is “working” on the Carol romance.
  • Lincoln says there’s a script that he recently read for a future episode that left him shellshocked and said they’ll “get in so much trouble” for the episode. Gurira said it was really exciting reading her fight with The Governor. Nicotero claims that Sophia walking out of the barn was his favorite, calling it “heartbreaking.”
  • Reedus says the best dinner that was thrown for a dead character was when John Bernthal was killed-off. Cohan claims they are now throwing “we’re alive” dinners as well!
  • Showing an image of a new zombie that has grown into the ground called, “The Moss Walker.”
  • Potential SPOILERS for later in the season: Showing footage of a scene in a car with Daryl, Michonne, and Tyrese. Michonne and Daryl hear a scrambled voice on the radio – before encountering an enormous herd of walkers that spans as far as the eye can see.

  1. Wait, is the host from Community?

    • Yep.

  2. Possibility of seeing Telltale video game characters on the show? f yeah!! maybe we can see Lee and Clementine

    • maybe Clementine, Omid, and Christa. Lee died right? :(

  3. excuse me, how is this the most talked about drama on TV? Walking Dead and Screenrant have completely dropped the ball on this show by NOT talking much at all about this next season. It has been so quiet that I (and a whole lot of other people) have completely lost interest in this show as it seems to be forgotten. I don’t think I’ll be following Ben Kendrick or even Walking Dead anywhere. I live in LA and there has been so little advertisement even here. I had to google the webisode just to see when it would be released! yeah, I’m pretty much now gonna tune out. I don’t know why Screen Rant focuses more on Movie Rumors than TV facts.
The movie rumors are completely useless and the TV facts are non-existent. Does anyone know of another website I can get news from, because this site just ain’t cutting it. This site used to be beautiful with constant updates and communication. Now the only site worse than this is Trekmovie site, where they RARELY update and if it’s big, Anthony takes all credit, if it ain’t big, it’s one of his staff.
I guess this explains why the last movie I saw in the theater was “FLIGHT” and it was great. But that was a year ago…

    • You’re blaming Screen Rant for Flight being the last movie you saw? What? lmao. You’re a joke.

      And check this out:
      http://screenrant.com/tag/the-walking-dead/
      I’d say that’s pretty frequent.

And this is all TV news:
      http://screenrant.com/tv-news/

    • You’re blaming this website for not knowing when season 4 was coming and therefore you lost interest in the show? If you were actually a fan of the show than this wouldn’t be an issue at all.

      • you don’t even make sense

        • I dont make sense? re-read what you wrote…

        • I dont get how you didnt know, its literally everywhere

    • Realist –

If you’re going to go on a tirade about the content I post, at least get your facts straight. I said “one of the most” talked about dramas on TV. Not “THE most” talked about.

If you don’t like the site anymore, there are plenty of other places out there for you to try – and we wish you the best.

      • +1

        Cheers

  4. Realist seems way off with his post there but I guess he doesn’t pay much attention.

Not that I can say much because the UK channels, papers, magazines and just regular conversation with people says that TWD, Breaking Bad and a lot of other shows that are huge in the US are barely spoken about in my experience. It’s always either GOT or Mad Men (which I’ve never seen myself and seems to be mostly talked about by TV hosts above the age of 39).

I could easily find out when the next season airs though, that’s what the internet is for. Hell, Screen Rant mention air dates a lot too. Only reason I don’t use them is because this is a US based website with mostly US based writers but that doesn’t stop anyone joining in the discussions.

I don’t even watch TWD but I know it returns here on FOX next Friday at 9pm thanks to commercials that aired during the Low Winter Sun finale on the same network this past Friday.

Again, not hard to find out if you really wanted to.

Speaking of which (and apologies for going off topic), but is anyone else in the UK annoyed that it seems all the shows are on the same days and times now?

Mostly Fridays (Agents Of SHIELD, Orphan Black) and Sundays (Homeland, The Blacklist, Revolution, The Moaning Of Life) but also Wednesday from next week (Sleepy Hollow, The Tunnel, Dracula).

Tuesdays will become a nightmare too with The Blacklist repeat (thanks to Homeland running over an hour) clashing with AHS when that comes back on the 29th.

Might be rambling now (it’s late is my excuse) but can’t wait for Arrow on the 21st.

    • Oh and The Office season 8 starts next Wednesday too. Bah, scheduling….

  5. whois Abraham? is he from the books?

    • Yes, Abraham is a major character in the graphic novel. He first appears with Eugene and Rosita, and eventually ends up being Rick’s second in command. He’s a badass in the comics, I hope they do him justice.

  6. “a swan neck cane is the coolest new way of killing walkers” – Hershel getting in on the action?

  7. Season 4 Episode 1 http://tiny.cc/k37o4w

  8. Yeah Abraham is from the comics. He has recently and for some time been Ricks right hand man. Which is kinda weird timing to introduce since they haven’t fully developed tyreese yet and he was Ricks right hand man during all the governor stuff. I guess we’ll have to see how it plays out!

  9. I’m from Macon, Ga . And she is actually pointing to Macon County , Ga , the city of Macon ( which is were Glen and Lee are from) is Bibb Co. Macon Co has like one stoplight maybe

    • Interesting, I was only reporting what they said in the panel – so maybe Nicotero needs a geography lesson ;)

  10. You had listed the people in the panel but you didn’t mention the little girl on Norman Reedus’s lap during the panel. Her name is josephina Miller from longIsland and she’s 10 years old . She gave the cast friendship bracelets that she stood up late to make the night before .they asked her to come up stage were they treated her like gold and asked her to join the panel.Me and my whole family can not believe what happen. We thank the whole cast,Yvette Brown (great job!)and Comic con workers and staff for a wonderful time.Oh and the audience for the big aww when my daughter cried at the mic I felt a big chill trough my body. Thanks again !!

  11. Not only is it now overpopulated with your competition, but
it is also overwhelmed with status updates by the millions of accounts.
